"Then... i-if you can't ask for it, let me do it because I want to," Zurine said softly, arms tightening around him protectively. "You took care of me earlier this summer... " She could remember him bringing her ice and visiting her on the hottest days, when she felt like she might melt, literally, of sheer heat and loneliness. It wasn't a stretch to imagine him feeling like that, too, after whatever it was he might have gone through. And if it was anything near the same, she wouldn't have left him alone now even if he asked her to go, unless she was sure he meant it. "Let me... take care of you, too. Please...?" There was genuine pleading in her tone, her voice quiet with distress.

A redness went into Cesc's eyes. It dimmed the glory of his gold irises and made it pale, weak, uncertain. His brows knit together and he dropped his gaze as she spoke. It wasn't the same -- her physical incapability to deal with heat, sweet frosty thing, she deserved all the care and thought in the world. He, he had been ruined in that jungle, his light filled with tracks of dirt and shadow. He did not want to cast that on her.
But it was too much alone. He could not hold all the pieces of himself.
"... yes," he whispered, his voice pinching, the sound and his halting breath thrumming against Zurine's skin. He held onto her as though she were saving him from drowning, keeping him from freezing to death, keeping him from dropping over a cliffside. Words bubbled up in him and he could not stop them, weak and pathetic and idiotic as they felt.
"I just want to sleep," he said, gasping. "I just want to sleep without being scared, or thinking about it, or feeling -- waking up -- alone, not knowing where anyone is, if they're still out there, please, I just want to sleep, I just need a few hours, just a few hours without worrying, without the heat in my head. I just want -- I just--"

"Then we'll sleep," she said softly, once his words stopped. "I'll... I'll stay with you while you sleep. As long... as long as it takes." She gently smoothed her hands through his butchered curls, feeling her heart ache a bit, and then she squeezed him again. "Come with me, then... l-let's go and lie down. You... you deserve to be able to rest." She didn't let him go, but floated toward his bedroom, which she knew very well. Zuri didn't mind being the guide this time, gentle with him as they moved toward the bed. There were benefits after all to their ability to float -- it allowed them to drift over any mess or obstacles while remaining close.

Cesc let himself be led. It had taken all of him to accept help, all of him not to pull away. He surrendered to it, his arms around her, and let her take him and put him back into his bed.
She was not warm in body, but it was her chill that he clung to in his darkened room, even as the hours passed. It was her cold that chased away the heat of the jungle that plagued him, and he blessed her for it, in a tiny distant voice that repeated as he fell into a fevered sleep: "Zurine, Zurine, Zurine..."
