Noah studied the map as Peyton looked for a route, frowning a little in concentration as he worked out what the tangle of interconnected lines meant. Obviously it wasn't to scale, so the various turns must be representations of locations rather than a genuine map of locations. Dots meant stops, that one was obvious, black dots would be line-specific stops and white ones would be stops with more than one line, so if you needed to get on a different line, you'd want to find the closest white dot to change at. He looked up at the sign on the wall to check the name and color of the stop they were at. Red line, 42nd St, okay, let's see, trace to the spot Peyton was pointing to. "Hey, that's not far at all," he said.

If the subway cars had been dark, his nerves might have returned, but they were brightly lit, and he was able to watch the tunnels zipping past with open fascination. The infrastructure under the city was complex and worked like clockwork. He was impressed. It must take huge amounts of planning and precision and maintenance to keep this working.

When they reached the park, Noah gawked happily around like a tourist, which, to be fair, he actually was. Sunlight and rolling grass, trees, a fountain, people all around; he could see the skyline all around them, but it was like an oasis of nature in the city. He smiled down at Peyton, a pleased and uncomplicated expression. "Me too," he agreed. "This was a great idea. Thank you."

Peyton leaned in against his side without thinking, smiling up at him. "My pleasure." The park was beautiful, more than she had been expecting. It was easy to just stand there and take it in, but despite what she'd said, it would be nice to see at least one more sight. So she narrowed her focus as she looked around them, not merely taken everything in, but looking for a sign or a hint to indicate the direction the zoo was in. After a quiet couple minutes she'd give Noah's arm a small nudge with her shoulder, then dip her head in the direction of a sign. "Ready to see some animals?"

Turning on her toe, she'd move to catch his other hand, drawing him along as she walked backwards towards the path marked by the sign. She was grinning, almost impish. "Do you have a favorite animal?" The skirt of her dress swished along legging clad thighs as she moved, hips rolling back and forth, pace exaggerated as she swung their arms. "Something exotic maybe? Mine's a goldfish, pretty plain I know, but they can be pretty." It was a wonder she hadn't run anything, walking backward, eyes up on his face.

Noah was easily drawn along, following with a slightly silly grin. "I like otters," he answered. "They're so cool. They're kind of stumpy-looking on land, but when they're in the water, it's just so, so effortless, you know?" He watched her, carefully not staring, but she was pretty, and she was right there and being pretty at him, which he was starting to sense was somehow different from just being pretty. "Did you have goldfish? Like, as pets?"

He looked past her for a moment. "Look out," he warned," there's some stairs, I don't want you to trip."

Noah could have stared, Peyton wouldn't have minded. She had dressed up, after all. "River otters or sea otters?" Maybe both. It didn't make a difference one way or another, both were cute. She was really just curious and enjoyed talking to him, it was terribly easy. To his question she'd give a small shake of her head. "No, I never had any pets." Too much moving around. Too many other things that needed taking care of.

The warning had her pausing, and she half turned while still holding onto his hands, glancing over her shoulder. Stairs indeed. Reluctantly she'd let his left hand go and slip back to his side so they could handle the stairs without the chance of her tripping and taking him down along with her.

She could see the big gate of the zoo ahead of them, and she gave the shoulder straps of her bag a small adjustment. "Bet they have otters."

"Both," Noah nodded. He blinked at her, surprised. "No pets ever?" It was hard for him to imagine. He'd spent his whole life in one place, always surrounded by animals. The thought of never having any pets around was strange to him.

He bumped his arm against her shoulder as she moved back to his side, giving her a shy little smile. "Let's go see."

The cashier at the admissions booth accepted his ID and card without so much as a blink, and the transaction went through with no hitches. He hadn't really thought there would be a problem, but he'd sort of been worried, a little bit, about what they'd do if there was. But the fake was apparently well enough made not to warrant even a second glance, and the card must be linked to some real bank somewhere. That made him wonder. It hadn't actually occurred to him before, but Deus must have connections to all kinds of industries, suppliers, maybe even services. Maybe he'd find out more later. Right now, though, he was on vacation in New York City, at the zoo, with Peyton, and the thought made him grin like an idiot all over again.

He studied the map the cashier had handed him along with his receipt, holding it so that Peyton could see easily too. "What do you want to go see first?"

Peyton answered that surprised look with a small shake of her head. "Nope, we moved a lot. There were other things, but," she left it at that. Not so much avoiding the topic, as simply choosing not to bring up something so serious here and now. Later, when they weren't walking through a beautiful park, about to go look at cute animals. She didn't want to be downer.

She waited while he payed the cashier, pale eyes jumping between the two. They hadn't discussed who would be paying for what, or where. Peyton had been with Deus longer, she had saved up more and would have been perfectly happy paying for things, but Noah had made it up to the window first. It was a date, but considering the teen had next to no experience with such things she wasn't really clear on the rules.

As the map came down to her level she leaned into Noah's side as she looked it over. Following the arrows as looped around the primarily circular park. "It looks like if we just follow the laid out path we'll hit everything." She touched a painted fingertip to the first little red arrow near where they stood, then traced it around. "That sounds like a good plan to me, but what do you think?" She looked up at him, smiling.

"That sounds good. Off to the tropics, then!" Noah grinned and tucked the map into his pocket. "Snakes and toucans and lemurs. All the exotic stuff. And I bet it's warm in there too."

The air inside the building was warm and humid, filled with the sounds of birds as well as the murmur of voices. Noah angled towards the snake tanks, interest bright in his eyes, but he paused to look to Peyton. Some girls didn't like snakes. He didn't really think she was going to be like that, but if she didn't want to go look at the snakes, he wouldn't argue.

It was warm, and Peyton didn't actually realize she'd been chilly until the humid air in the reptile house closed in around them. It was enough to make her shiver, a chill running down her spin to make her pause before she slid up to stand at the much taller trainee's side.

If snakes bothered her it didn't show. She gazed down at the curled python in the tank with avid interest. tracing the pattern of the scales along that long long body. If there was a typical creepy crawly she wasn't fond of it was spiders. before Deus they'd never bothered her, but now? After the cruise, and the spider things protruding from zombie chests on her promo...nope. Not a fan. Though the thick glass of the tanks seemed enough to make viewing them acceptable. Just because she wasn't fond of them didn't mean there weren't some interesting looking specimens.

As they slipped past the snakes and moved towards the lemurs and other smaller mammals the Sun was reaching for Noah's hand again. That fluttery rush sweeping through her stomach as her fingers slid between his. Pulse speeding up just a touch.

Oh, that's why she didn't feel cold in the February air.

"They're so cool," Noah opined. "I like constrictors. I think they're cute. You see the blunt, sorta long nose? You can always tell if a snake's venomous or not by the shape of the head. Venomous snakes have sorta triangular heads. I think it's because of the venom glands. I used to want a corn snake, but Mom said no, she wasn't going to have any snakes in her house, even if they weren't dangerous."

He wasn't too enthusiastic about the spiders himself. There was something about bugs that bothered him in a way he couldn't explain, and it showed in the way he stood back a little from the tanks, not leaning in to study them the way he had with the reptiles, and he didn't have much to say about them. He followed Peyton's pace through that section, trying not to hurry. He didn't want to look like a wimp.

Her hand slipped into his again as they headed for the small animals, and he didn't jump, though his heart thumped as he became suddenly hyperaware of her presence again. He folded his fingers around hers and squeezed her hand lightly. He wanted to say something, but he couldn't think of anything to say.

Peyton was content to listen as Noah filled the companionable quiet with interesting little factoids about snakes. She thought maybe she'd heard something about head shaping being a telling thing, but couldn't recall where, and regardless, it was still cool to know. Could come in useful one day.

Despite the adorable animals the Sun's attention kept dropping to their clasped hands. Noah's fingers squeezing softly around her own made her stomach do that excited little flip, and she rolled her lips, pressing them together before returning that pressure and leaning into his side again. Her free hand came up, fingers slipping softly against the inside of his elbow, trailing up and down the length of his arm as they stood in front of the enclosure with the lemurs. A tip of her head let her rest her temple against his bicep.

This was really nice.

"They're really cute," she offered after a moment, attention returning to the animals as they moved around. One of the larger ones had a baby clinging to it's back, it turned it's little head to peer at the pair with wide, dark eyes. And Peyton grinned.

The gentle touch on his arm made Noah's attention shift off the animals entirely. He was pretty sure his smile looked totally stupid, but he didn't care, because this was great. She was smiling too, and that was even better.

It was kind of cool to be somewhere where nobody knew them, somewhere where they could just relax and not have to worry about anyone getting nosy and asking questions, and just have some fun together. When she spoke, he nodded, because the lemurs were cute, then, on impulse, he said, "So are you."

He could feel himself turning red, but that was actually kind of okay. He thought maybe Peyton wouldn't even laugh at him.

If Noah's smile was goofy, then that made two of them. Peyton had given up trying to school her features, and accepted the softly flushed goofy grin she was sure she was wearing. How cared, really? Not Noah, and he was the only one she cared about here and now. So what if he saw how much fun she was having, or how happy she was just standing there holding his hand. Hell, she wanted him to see that.

The compliment caught her off guard. Not because she didn't expect Noah to say such things, but because she'd been lost in thought. The blush darkened, mirroring the color that was rising up on the tall young man's cheeks, and an altogether pleased smirk appeared on glossed lips. "I try." With a tip of her head she was able to look up at him, and she gave his arm and hand a tight squeeze. Gratitude clear in delicate features, she wasn't the least bit tempted to laugh at him.

"You're pretty cute yourself." More than cute really, but there was a certain boyish charm about him. A softness that set him apart from every other guy she cared about or had felt something for at one point in time(it was a small list). It was different, but she appreciated him all the more for it.

The blush got worse, but not only had she not laughed at him, she'd complimented him back. "Thanks," he said softly, and was grateful that he hadn't stammered over the word.

"Do you want to go see the monkeys?" he asked after a moment. A though occurred to him, and he giggled a little and added, "Just like back home."

She gave a very soft sound of amusement, but it wasn't as if she were making fun of him. More an over all happy noise. Small fingers started up their idle wandering again. Up and down the length of his arm, as she brought her attention back to the lemurs.

If she were being honest with herself, she really wanted to wrap her fingers into the front of his shirt and pull him down for a kiss to see just how how much of a blush she could get from him, but she supposed monkeys weren't a bad second. A soft chuckle echoed his own laugh, not just at his comparison, but at her own thoughts.

Noah wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to the animals at the moment, not when Peyton's hand was brushing gently up and down his arm. She seemed to think his dumb joke was a little funny, too, and that was incredibly flattering.

He was content to stay and "watch" the lemurs as long as she felt like it. It was nice to just be with her, and not be worried about anything, just be together and happy.
