A wiser man might have spent his time defending any oncoming attack after she'd set up the barrier but Jude just lightly batted at it instead with his weapon, "What? Didn't expect me to come at you with everything I had? You'd probably gotten all pissy with me if I just played with you the entire time," he didn't confirm or deny whether she had pressed a particular button or not. She was a smart girl, most of the time.
There was a fact that Jude was very serious when it came to training and easily lost himself to the violence.
"If you wanted someone to just lay back and let you bowl over them...I'd suggest you find someone else then," He gave her a small grin, it looked almost dark, a tint of maliciousness on a face that otherwise had shown her some kindness. Now he was out to provoke her, trying to get her to show him what she was worth. HP: 39 DMG: 3

He provoked her, but only because he was right. "I'm glad you don't hold back." She admitted, readying her trident in one arm for a long distance jab. "It's hard to get me to stop playing games. You know that better than anyone." The trident came through the barrier, fire licking against its metal as it stabbed hard into Jude's shield. She was trying her best, but only when she succeeded would she admit that. HP: 25 Damage: 6 Barrier Turn: 1/2 Defense left: 7/10

"Playing games is a little dumb," he said simply as he bashed at her barrier again but a little harder than he had earlier, he barely paid any mind at her weapon prodding his shield. It stung in a sense, but he also didn't care. He was reckless and knew it.
Jude was clearly not one for playing games - at least not any games that didn't have a goal worth achieving at the end. "I mean you could use your brains for better things."
"Like learning the piano or some s**t. I don't know," Jude smirked a bit.

"I used to use my brain to learn the piano," She informed him idly. "And it has done me no good in this life. Using it for games, though, has kept me alive. And happy. And strong." The last word was punctuated with another hard, vicious stab right into his gut, through her dissipating shield. HP: 24 Damage: 9 Barrier Turn: 2/2 0/10

"Playing games can only get a person so far. Then again I've always been very blunt so...I guess it is beyond me to play games of any kind," he said as he took the hit to his gut with a small grunt. Jude shoved back at her stubbornly.
Jude wasn't one to just cry out for mercy, "Have you considered taking up training for championship scrabble leagues or something. That could help occupy some of that brain space."
Now he was just being weird. HP: 24 DMG: 1

"Let's agree to disagree." She huffed out as she retaliated. Because as far as Maebe was concerned, games got her everywhere, and everything. But she did not have the will power to try and convince Jude, the stoic wonder, of that. In fact, she knew better - for him, games wouldn't get anyone anywhere. She stared at him when he suggested scrabble, and her lips parted in a small, but genuine grin. "You're so weird." She told him, with a little too much affection in her voice to be considered insulting. HP: 23 Damage: 4

"Done and done. Just remember this conversation when someone turns your games against you," he rolled a shoulder and went in for a much stronger attack this time, body shifting forward to add momentum to the attack.
Jude paused at her comment about his being weird and gave her a bit of a grin, "You have no idea, Mae."

He was right, she probably had no idea just how weird Jude could get. She also had no idea how hard he could hit, so when he left her wincing with real pain over a powerful impact, she re-assessed her fighting techniques and tried to impale him from afar. She could feel the match getting away from her, but it didn't anger her to realize it. After all, it was Jude who was winning. The day she lost a fight to him, was the day things would change. And she was fine with things the way they were now. HP: 11 Damage: 6

He got stabbed from a bit of a distance, it was a harsh jab for him. Jude maintained his footing and tried to sneak in toward her to aim another hit, "Wanna call a truce or is this to the bitter end?" He asked curiously. HP: 14 DMG: 4

Just took the next hit and waited for his next opening patiently, "I just figured it was a fair question to ask, Ragdoll," he teased lightly with a smirk.
"I mean I did hit you pretty hard and fast earlier, I just wanted to make sure you're still alright~," he chimed at her in an almost cheerful tone. HP: 9 DMG: 0

He was getting sassy. A little gasp of realization left her, before she came at him, letting the idea of staying at a distance fly out the window in place of jumping him and sticking her trident deep into his fading shield. "I've missed that sass so much." She told him, her tiny smile mismatched against the way she bashed against him. HP: 7 Damage: 6

He let out a grunt and stumbled back a little, "Then visit with me more often if you miss it so much. It isn't like I bite," he retorted idly. It wasn't like he went out of his way to avoid people - if that was the case then he sucked at the avoiding people thing.
Jude also realized he didn't put out a welcome mat either, but he didn't say anything on the matter as he lunged at her for his next attack.

Jude's next attack pierced right through her shield, shattering it until she was flat on the ground from the impact of a very real hit. Thaw was roaring with dismay, but Maebe just felt a sense of accomplishment for how close she'd come. And a sense of content for a day well spent. "Okay." She agreed, without her normal sass and apathy. "I promise. You'll see me more often. Really." She held her hands out to him. "Now help me up. You've thoroughly kicked my a**."

"And thus I am victorious over all things," Jude said in a deadpan sort of tone as he dismissed his weapon and made his way to give Maebe a hand up. "To be fair, I'm feelin' pretty sore myself, good job."
It was praise. Simple and honest.
"Didn't know you had it in you. Then again we didn't have a chance to try a spar when you first got here," he said thoughtfully as he waited for her to place her hand in his.
