Being dragged along by Jack wasn't Abbi's idea of a good time, nor was the whole spooky screeching song thing, but there was at least one thing the girl could control. And that was running faster than Jack. Unfortunately for Abbi, that only worked for a grand total of two seconds because as soon as she'd passed him there came a truly terrifying cracking noise. The sidewalk under her foot split and the girl sidestepped it only to find another one forming. As if trying to stand properly despite the ground breaking apart wasn't difficult enough, the clouds of oddly colored vapor that rose from the splits beneath Abbi's feet definitely weren't helping. Something like an apology pops from her mouth, but she's not even sure if its understood or if she understands herself with all this commotion and confusion. Half a sentence is tried, something to shout at the men in hopes of finding them again, but instead the ground shifts and Abbi finds herself falling and screams, which she figures will help her be found pretty well too.

"I get out plenty, Jack. I choose to hope is all." Lex replied to the other Life trainee without much snark or snarl. The truth of the matter was that he really disliked field work - he'd rather be at Deus reading or deciphering tomes. He could not, however, avoid it. "Let's just hope that whatever we do find isn't too malevolent."
Wishful thinking, and stupid. The telltale hiss of vapors escaping through concrete alerted Lex just before everything went into a white fog of panic and dismay. Screaming could be heard and Lex's throat was already beginning to become rawhide with his shouts for Abbi and Jack.
A faceless mass of limbs skittered by his vision and shots were fired after it.
"Hawthorn, save the 'I Told You So's" for when we make it out of here!"

Hope, Lex said. Jack barked a wry laugh at that.
Luckily for them all, the words that were on his tongue were not I told you so but an equally appropriate, "Oh s**t!"
Sword out in one hand, he dove after Abbi and yanked her from ground zero as what looked like manic skeletons tore into his shield. "Damn it, ow! Up and at 'em, AK," Jack said as he let her go. "Who feels like running defense?"

Gasping and making odd little chirping noises of fright, Abbi was hoisted up and back from the claws that were reaching for her. Jack's voice permeated the continued shrill shrieking of whatever it was and for a moment the girl wove one hand against his arm to find her feet. It was only for a second, but then she was up and ready, her scythe clenched tight between her hands. "I've got defense!" She shouted, skittering from Jack toward what she hoped was Lex. Close enough to see it was, the teen shot out her blade just as grubby, may-or-may-not-be-there nails reached out for a grab of the man. "On your left!" Lex hurdled off to the side after Abbbi's block let all but the tip of some heinous claws scratch him and he returned fervent fire. This was a mess, a terrible mess. "Good defense, Abbi!" The man shouted out, warily looking around the fog for more silhouettes and eerie shapes.
This was baby island all over again. He would be incredibly surprised if their team made it out of this unscathed.

He couldn't wait for Abbi to get back to him. At least she had Lex covered.
Jaw set and scarf pulled over his mouth, Jack cut a large swathe of the creatures away with a few swings, aware of every bite and claw but unable to do anything except keep moving. That was what had kept him alive in the desert after all. He'd have to trust the other two wouldn't bend under the pressure as well, because damn if this mob wasn't a hard hitter.

Unused to the sound of gunfire, especially on Deus, Abbi flinched away from Lex, somehow managing to side step the shadowy hands that reached for her. "B-R-B chief!" She told him with a quick salute, for being silly in the middle of a battle seemed totally rational, before she twirled on her toe and raced off. "Marcooo!" She called after Jack, bouncing between spooky hands and shadows. An unnaturally tall shadow appeared on her right and Abbi swung out at it, glad to have managed to find Jack. Lex nodded without as much as a sound, focusing on the heavy hitter coming is way. He grunted as the hammer like fist of fog crushed into his stomach and retaliated with more heavy fire, seemingly immune to the miniature combustion occurring in the barrel of the flintlock.
"Don't hesitate to pendant out if you get too beat!" He called into the mists, moving around to either find Jack and Abbi or get out of the mists.

Normally Jack would have indulged Abbi a Polo, but the mob swarmed him just as she arrived. It took effort to keep from staggering as something tried to swipe his legs out from under him.

Since she was near Jack, and because the shadows seemed to be more inclined to mess with him, Abbi just stayed and poked the pole-arm of her scythe in the direction of one shadow in hopes that would make it go away. It didn't, but it did give the monster some pause before it launched itself at Jack. Well, at least she had tried.. HP: 50/50 Damage: Nawp Defending Target: Jack Defend For: 4 Charge: 3/3

Lex was about to quip back at Jack before letting out a strangled gasp, a hard hit from a sickle shaped misty figure.

Jack gave another curse, this time managing to cut off a skeleton's leg at the knee for what good it did. The mist still teemed with them.
"Might have to switch up the paradigm a bit."

Whether Jack knew it or not, he'd just made Abbi very happy by saying that. "Paradigm Shift! Solidarity!" No, that hadn't been one of her favorite paradigms at all why would anyone think that. Grinning, Abbi looped around Jack and raced over to Lex, pulling out a long white ribbon from her pocket. It wasn't so much a ribbon as bandages, but she kept them in pristine order so they could have passed should she needed an extra accessory without the access to the real thing. "Solidarity is a Commando, that's you, with a Medic, me, and then a Sentinel, which is Jack!" Abbi chirped as she wrapped the ribbon around Lex's arm and used her teeth to rip off the end. A bow was tied, obvious that Abbi had practiced bows not only for medical purposes, and then she shimmied to his opposite side. Quick as she could she wrapped his other arm too. "S'not much, but it'll do!"HP: 50/50 Damage: Nawp Healing Target: Lex Heal For: 9 Charge: 3/3

If Lex were at all confused by Abbi's antics, he didn't let it show. She may have been blabbering what seemed to be gibberish to him, but he appreciated the bandaging.

Lex smirked before the right bandage was torn asunder (that could have been his arm) by a razor sharp fang. The man grunted, shoving Abbi out of harm's reach and cocking the pistol's hammer back. "Cover your ears." He demanded of the other two hunters calmly, softly.
The golden light and screeching soprano that rang out from the pistol's barrel was anything but. It tore a temporary hole in the mists, the vapors shrieking before conglomerating together once more.
"s**t."

Lex wasn't the only one who thought what Abbi was saying didn't make quite as much sense as it did to her, but Jack was slowly getting used to her references. His mind continued to tick as he ducked his head and jammed a finger in his ear in time to avoid going deaf as the other Lifer's weapon began to screech, blasting a hole in the mist.
He allowed himself a wary sense of optimism that lasted all of three seconds before the miasma closed in on them again. s**t.
"New plan," he said to them quickly, driving monsters off of Abbi. "Alternate attack and defense in order. I'll take Abbi's back while she attacks, then you back me up for mine, Jamil, then Abbi defends you while you go, etcetera etcetera. It still won't be neat and clean, but at least they won't be slaughtering us faster than we can heal up. I've still got bandages and a healing charge, so holler if it gets too bad. Everyone good with that?"
