Chris made a snarky face at her comment. So he wasn't the promiscuous one in the family. Sue him.
"Evan's the big problem here though," he groaned. "If we could find a way to just shut him up we could work everything else out right? Find a better way to keep penumbra quiet. Is he close to anyone else?"

"Stormy ... Tuck ... I dunno, a few others. What's that gonna do though? I'm not threatening anyone he's close to that's just bullshit," she said, souring at the path that Chris' thinking was going down.
She shrugged and said, "Look at this point, he knows. He's gonna tell or he won't tell. There's nothin' we can do to sway him one way or another without drawin' even more attention to that s**t."

"I'm not saying threaten them. Maybe just get them on our side. With just one target he'll be quick to snuff you out but if he's dealing with a bunch of people around him he might be more hesitant."
Chris laid back on Lydia's bed, looking up at the ceiling. It never held the answers like movies made it seem it would. "You're right though. We shouldn't draw more attention to it. I just don't like the idea of not doing something. You're a sitting duck."

"Nah dude- it doesn't matter if he's just one dude. All he has to do is tell a lead- having others on our side won't do s**t." She waved her hands and said, "Plus I don't like all this talk about sides and enemies. Seems too shady and I don't like pullin' people into my s**t."
She followed his gaze up to the ceiling, wondering what the hell he was looking at. God Chris was a ******** weirdo. "I'm a sittin' duck yeah. But that's what I'm sayin'. Like I'm the sittin' duck. Me. I just wanted you to know, not for you to get involved or nothin'."

He flopped his hands on the bed a couple times. "I don't like it. I want to help."
It was like, his job to help or something. He needed to.

She DID feel bad burdening Chris with this info and then telling him to stay put.
"Well ... you could be doing what Jack's doin' and just keepin' an eye on Evan. Oh, actually it would be pretty helpful if like ... if you see him around to text where he is. That way I can avoid him." Because running away from a problem was always the best solution. "Use your dumb moon powers to defend."

Chris made a dumb gesture, which was kind of negated by the fact that it was pointed at the ceiling instead of at Chel. "In the name of the moon I'll protect you from that a*****e." He nodded seriously, though. "I can do that. It's better than nothing. Anything else?"

"What?" Chel said, completely missing the reference. She was not a weeaboo sorry.
When he offered more help, she said, "Ummm a million dollars."

"Sorry, you'll have to return to the prostitution plan for that one. I'm sure there's someone around here desperate enough to pay for it."
He sat up again, not satisfied with their bandaid of a solution, but at least a little more at ease knowing he could help somehow. "Thanks for telling me I guess. Or, thank Jack I suppose. Least there's someone looking out for your dumb a**."

"You really think so ...?" Chel asked, rubbing her chin. Hey, it was an option.
She snorted and added, "Jack's not looking out for me oh my god." Jack? Caring about something??? "He was just juiced up on horseman torture and when I started talkin' 'bout death he had a kneejerk reaction."

Chris raised his brows. "You think that his knee jerk reaction in any situation is to make you promise to tell me something? If that makes the pill easier to swallow I guess, man..."
Who the ******** has a knee jerk reaction like that. What the ********>

"Nah, his knee jerk reaction was that he didn't want to focus on his own s**t, so he instead focused on mine. Trust me." It was odd, her asserting this strange sort of knowledge-based dominion over Jack.
She shrugged and said, "I got another weird request actually."

He supposed it made sense, kind of. But still smelled fishy.
He resumed folding his laundry for lack of anything better to do with his hands. "Yeah? What was that?"

Her face went a little red and she was looking at the ceiling, the window anywhere but Chris. "Will you um. Will you maybe sleep over at my place tonight?" Chel had never needed to sleep in her parents' bed- she always had Chris in some form of availability.
Ever since Evan had spooked her, nights were always the worst. Paranoia got to her via too much time to think, the darkness, the quiet- every part of night amplified her fear and got the better of her. "I got Mario Kart ... We can play that ..."

Chris's expression softened and he nodded. He could be angry at her for not being more careful. He could be annoyed that this was a problem in the first place, or that she wasn't willing to go to the extremes to fix it. But he couldn't refuse that request.
"Of course. I'mma kick your a** though."
