Topher smiled at the feeling of her hand clasped over his. He hadn't really thought about moving back. It seemed like a huge hassle. It wasn;t like he had a lease to break but it would still take way too but effort. But the look in Yvette’s eyes, the way they brightened when he mentioned it even in jest, would make it worth it. Being around her again would make all that trouble worth it.
“If you want me to, I’ll come back. ”
He patted the hand atop of his before pulling free and rising from the chair, taking a moment to stretch. “I’m going to go make a phone call. See if I have a place to stay.” Yvette’s house may have been the best bet but it wasn’t too much of a stretch to think that his room may have been left untouched. Maybe, just maybe it was still open. After a quick phone call, his prayers had been answered and his room was secured. Now all he had to do was make sure none of the tenants thought that the person moving around in the attic wasn’t supposed to be there.
He slipped back into the hospital room, smiling from ear to ear as he walked back to her bedside. “Mom put a padlock on my room. Everything is still there. I've got the key so I can just stay there tonight.” Topher rooted around in his pocket, looking for the keys to his van. “I should probably go though. It’s almost 2 in the morning and the nurses are getting antsy. I’ll talk to you tomorrow okay?” It was a split second gesture. Topher leaned over the small bed, placing a hand on top of her hand. It was barely a kiss. A peck really, feather light and barely there, but it was a kiss nonetheless.
Before he could even register what had happened, he was already back on his side of the bed, shoving his hands in the pockets of his hoodie with his eyes glued firmly to the floor. It had been almost second nature to do it; rehearsed even. There had been so many chances to do it earlier, so many times that they had hung out or gone on dates or whatever "their" situations were called and he never got the courage. It had to be the most awkward timing in the world for anything to happen between them, of course.
“I…uh…uh…nevermind that…I um…yeah…” A dark blush rose to his cheeks as he stammered through something that barely resembled English. “I should go…”

The girl had been struck dumb, which was not that much of a difference from her usual state.
He was leaving the decision up to her?
The words were choked up in her throat as Topher excused himself, leaving Yvette to dwell upon the idea of it ultimately being up to her.
It clearly had to be a joke. He was trying to make fun of her, because she definitely was gullible at times. However, Topher had never been so cruel before, so the fact she even doubted him now made her feel low. Which meant that he was sincere?
She blinked silently as the boy slipped back into the room, and his exclamation was enough to cause a slip of a smile to return to the quiet girl's face.
However, nothing could have prepared her for what happened next.
She had maybe blinked for a split second, but her eyes shot open wide with Topher as close as he was.
Kiss?
It had been a delicate sensation upon her lips, but for a moment they had been touching Topher's. Her fingers curled underneath his, almost afraid to move much more beyond that. Her cheeks were a deep rouge color as he pulled away. The moment had been fleeting, but the impact resonated deep with the girl in the bed.
"...I... I uh... I want you to come back..."
She paused as she considered what she said before blurting out "...well... not here... ImeancomebacktoDestinyCity... not to come back to the hospital... um..."
Another pause.
"...I can give you a call to see how you are getting settled in... if... that's okay?"

Well, Yvette hadn’t just retreated silently under her blanket to hide forever. Maybe the kiss wasn’t all that bad of an idea. And yet he stood there, shuffling his feet as she spoke. What now? It was almost like he had to move back now. Not that she was forcing his hand or anything but he wanted to be with her more than anything else. Visiting her here, knowing that she wasn’t safe just cemented that fact. But it wasn’t like coming back to Destiny City would mean a normal life. He might have his old room, his old neighborhood and his old friends but it didn't mean he’d have the normal life he had at his current home.
“I…” Topher’s posture sagged even more as he thought about having to go out and fight again. It was difficult work even when he was at the top of his game. Now he was confused and unsure about it. But it was home and it was in danger. Most importantly, she needed him. Topher snapped back upright, taking his hands from his pockets and placing placing them on the edge of her bed. “I’ll come back. But we’re going on a date when I get back…a real date. If…if that’s okay with you…”

It was quite surreal. Just hours ago she might have had a near-death experience, and here was Topher. Not only had he shown up, but he had promised to come back to Destiny City, and surprised the girl in other ways.
His proposition wasn't any less surprising. They had attempted such a thing once, if one labeled that failure of an outing as a "date." However, both of them had silently decided to try and get a convenient case of amnesia.
Yvette's heart skipped a few beats as her little fingers slipped over to the boy's, brushing up against edges delicately before coming to a stop. Her eyes looked up to him, shy by default, possibly embarrassed by all the unexpected attention this evening. Her lips were curled into a tiny smile.
The girl's gentle smile was all he'd need for an answer (though there was a subtle accompanying nod as well). He didn't need her words to know that she accepted the terms he had set up.
