Finn might have argued, but he was just as eager to get out of the fog as the other two.

But then they stepped into their supposed shelter, only to find dozens of mirrors looking back at him.

For some reason, Finn barked out laughter, something loud and uproarious before it dimmed away to a quiet chuckle, the moon hunter giving a slow shake of his head. "This is ********. We should just go back outside." Because really. Mirrors? This kind of thing was actually creepier and more unsettling to him then faceless dead bodies or roller coasters that moved on their own. Still, the other two were moving further in, and he was not about to be separated from them both, so with another chuckle followed quickly by a long, suffering sigh, he followed behind the two of them, his flashlight still out, flicking around, beaming back at him from the mirrors that reflected images of himself from both sides, from straight ahead, from above, from every god damn angle that he looked.

He didn't want to look at them. He knew, just ******** knew, that weird a** s**t was going to start happening to those reflections. Call it a hunch.

And sometimes, Finn just ******** hated to be right.

It didn't seem like they had been walking very far along at all when he suddenly felt dizzy, the ground beneath him almost seeming to tilt, and a blinding white light took over his vision momentarily, before fading away. When it was gone, however, it appeared at first as if nothing had changed.

But the reflections. Those ******** reflections. Each and everyone of them moved with him, his every twitch, the narrowing of his eye, his hand raising towards his face, which he could see, in the mirrors, as melting off of his skull like hot wax. It was grotesque, and awful, and it made him curl up his lip in disgust, revealing far too much teeth then it should have in the images reflected back at him.

"This is bullshit." He muttered, feeling for himself that his face was fine, the image staring back at him nothing more then a lie. "If you're going to ******** with me, house, try using something I haven't already seen before." He turned back towards the path, the sounds of breaking glass and a screaming man enough to bring his attention back to their present situation.

"Horace!" He barked out. "Pull yourself together. It's not real."

Clearly they were going to need to get out of this place before the young man hurt himself.

"Peyton?" He called out as well, while mentally chastising himself for letting both wander so far away.

When the blinding white faded Peyton came back to herself sitting on the floor with her back against one of the mirrors and the sound of shattering glass and voices flooding her senses. "s**t." What the ******** had happened? What was happening? The girl scrambled back to her feet, using a mirror for support, but as her gaze caught her own reflection she jerked away from it with a horrified shriek.

It was her, but it wasn't. Her dainty self stared back at her, but the very skin seemed to be melting away. She stared, fixated, unable to tear her gaze away as the girl in the mirror lost all signs of humanity, became so much gore and meat, and finally melted away into the pink stained bones. It turned her stomach, had her swallowing back bile, and she had to grit her teeth to keep from throwing up against the wall.

<It's not real.>

Of course it wasn't, but it was still horrifying. Her breaths were coming faster and faster, thin chest a cage for a hammering heart. Darkness ate at the edges of her vision, and maybe she would have fainted, but Finn's voice cut through the shattering crash of glass, calling her name, and she blinked, tore her gaze away.

She didn't have time to loose it. They had to get through this, she had a job to do, responsibilities. Finn could take care of himself, but Horace was still a trainee.

"Here!" How had they gotten separated? The last thing she remembered was the weight of one of them at her back, but when she'd come back to herself they'd been gone. Back tracking(she though it was back tracking), she managed to follow the sounds of breaking glass and voiced until she found Horace, bloody knuckled and distressed. "Horace, come on. Don't look." She held her hand out to him, reaching for him, and when she touched his arm she curled her fingers around it and started pulling him around with her.

"Finn! I've got Horace. Where are you?" They had a mission. If she just kept repeating it she could ignore the mirrors. It wasn't real.

If was fortunate he wasn't as far away as he could have been. They turned a corner and there he was. A flicker of a smile lit on on the girl's face at the sight of him, genuinely happy to see him, unharmed, albeit annoyed.

He let himself be pulled away, cracking a grin at Peyton. "Thought if I hit it enough, somethin' might pop out." Horace looked at his knuckles. "Didn't work though - let's get outside." The mirrors watched him move through half-melted eyes and features that turned his grin into simple teeth and bone.

As he stepped back outside, Horace heard a loud crack, and then another, and another. He cursed as gas spewed through the air, trying to flip his scarf up over his mouth. "Watch out, guys, soemthing's coming!" With a hiss of rustling pages, Jannisari appeared on his fists.

Quote:
- As you continue walking down the sidewalk you hear a large crack, followed by another. A strange gas explodes from underneath, making you extremely dizzy, as you cough to figure out what is going on, fighting for air now. You have exposed your entire team to a hallucinogen, making everything more terrifying than ever as your vision swims and hops uncontrollably and your hearing becomes muted. Something creaks, groans, lurches underneath you, but is that your imagination?

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a mob that has collective 100 HP. Every time you attack it (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. AS you can't really see the boss, most of it will have to be dependent on what you can see, if anything at all, from strange faceless figures lurching, half-hopping towards you to the smiling dead coming back and swiping at you. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

It wasn't long, though it might have felt like forever, before both Peyton and Horace had found him, and shortly afterwards they were booting it back outside to take their chances in the fog again, the house of ******** insanity left behind them.

However, no sooner did Finn's boots touch the ground did he hear something all too familiar from past missions. The crack of the ground beneath him, which of course heaved shortly afterwards. The gas was pretty much to be expected at this point, and while he did at least attempt to block it out by wrapping a scarf around his face, he knew that it was ultimately futile.

While he still had most of his bearings and wits about him, he got himself into a defensive stance, putting himself near Horace who he deemed most likely to need the extra help due to being a mere trainee.

"Watch yourself, this is going to get ******** ugly." He muttered from behind his scarf.

"You got this, darling?" He called over towards Peyton, the heavy hitter of the group. "I'll give you cover when I can."

Finn's appearance had Peyton nudging Harrison towards the other man as she moved away from them, giving herself room to maneuver without having to worry about catching either of them by mistake. This was already going to be hard enough with the limited visibility and the heavy haze that was settling over her body. She felt sluggish, dizzy, but she still brought her hands up, fingers tightening around the hilts of her daggers as pale eyes scanned the swirling fog for the darker roll of roaming shadows.

Finn's question brought on a wave of bravado that had her grinning behind the cover of her scarf, but she shot him a look over her shoulder that was eloquent. "I've got this, keep Horace covered as much as you can."

Something lashed out, dark and too fast to make out, and the force of it made her stumble, fighting against her own dizziness to stay on her feet. It was familiar, she'd faced a similar situation in her first year as a hunter with Gale, Heidi, and Taym at some abandoned resort. It made her wonder if the two were connected.

Or rather, later, when she wasn't in the middle of a battle, she'd wonder.

Catching her balance, the Sun lashed out, small fists a blur as she slashed into the looming darkness that hovered in the fog, and she was rewarded with an angry howl and the drag of contact against the blades of her weapons.

"Yeah. yeah, I know, dad. Thanks for the cover." He darted forward, weaving between figures. Faceless, nearly formless, they swarmed through the gas and his vision tilted for a second. He was the weakest here - he knew that wholly. But Horace would try and if it turned foul, he knew he'd fall first. He was okay with it. Horace had thought that Finn would cover Peyton - she was their hard hitter, after all, and thereby the most valuable. Trainees were expendable.

His fists lashed out and caught some shapeless thing in the side. The sound of wet flesh echoed in his ears and Horace thought how odd it was - it sounded just like when he'd gotten his ear punched. Wet and cloying and ripping. Sucking in a deep breath, he moved back closer to Finn as the things tried to grab at him.

Peyton would get her cover in due time. Finn was very much aware of who would fall first in this situation, just who their weakest link was. It was him that he opted to stick with, lingering close enough to battle away the strange figures that trundled out of the fog.

He wasn't doing a perfect job of it. There were a couple of times attacks slipped through, but he knew that it would have been a lot worse. He also knew that Peyton, who was probably withstanding a bit of a beating herself, could handle it for longer.

Trynt was nearly charged already, anyways.

The dainty Sun did indeed know how to take a beating a keep on ticking. She could take more abuse than Horace could, and she knew that when the time came, when her shield began to unravel and fray, Finn's attention would swing to her. There was no need or any discussion, even having never teamed up previously, they just knew. That's how Suns and Moons operated.

Something hit from the side with enough force to knock her off balance, but she turned as she stumbled, slashing at the retreating shadow before it could disappear completely. Her reward was the drag of a blade through something solid and an angry hiss rising up through the haze.

"I really hate this ******** fog." She growled it under her breath, head whipping from side to side, watching for another attack or another target.

If there was one impeccable thing about Finn, it was that his defense was solid. The man knew just how to slip between the shadowy figure in the fog and Horace. It would be great if Horace could hit anything.

He cursed. "Yeah, it's foggier than a pervert's breath in spring."

"Maybe you should both just shut the ******** up and focus." Finn smiled, blandly, giving them each a glance before he knocked back a few more of the monstrosities that lurched out of the fog towards them.

Peyton flashed Finn the sort of smile that comment deserved, but she at least didn't seem to have taken it personally. It was to be expected from the Moon. If he wasn't being a mouthy s**t head something was very wrong. "How about you worry about what you're doing," she'd suggest with sugary sweetness, pale eyes tracking the erratic movements through the fog.

It was hard to get a bead on any one target at a time, but something larger loomed closer and Peyton darted into action.

A solid slash to a half seen limb pulled a furious hiss from the haze, but any delight in the hit was cut short as a dark claw erupted from the fog and caught the girl across the face his enough force to send her spinning, smacking against the concrete with a loud grunt.

"Son of a b***h." Warrick was rolling through her head as she got back to her feet and touched a hand to her lip. No blood, but that one had hurt.

An arm reached out of the fog and Horace turned, dodging it. One claw scraped at him and his own hand shot out, twisting and snapping something. The visceral pop of it made him grin. Horace was about to pop out a smart comment at Finn when Peyton got b***h-slapped to the ground. He stilled his feet's natural inclination to rush over to her.

"You alright, sugarspun?" His eyes slanted over to Finn. "If ya wanna go cover her for a bit, I'm sure I can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'." It just didn't make sense.

Finn made a tsking sound under his breath as Pey went flying, already of the mind set to use his charge on her and give her a little bit of extra protection before Horace made mention of it himself.

"Well, if you're sure." Finn drawled, before moving towards the small sun hunter, his lance already glowing a bright magenta as he twirled it with his fingers before throwing it up into the air.

From up above Peyton, the lance continued to spin for a few beats longer, a pinkish glow forming in the air before it settled down around her, a now barely visible barrier to buffer any more incoming attacks to her person.

"There you go, sweetheart. Now try not to spend any more time playing in the dirt."

She winced, but she lighted a hand to offer Horace a thumbs up. "I'm good, don't worry." By now he should be familiar enough with the way she operated to know getting knocked down a time or two wasn't going to stop her. She was tougher than that.

"Pretty light show," she'd comment dryly, offering Finn a grateful smile as she bounced back up to her feet and dropped into a ready stance again. "Thanks for the boost, Hot stuff!" A clap on his arm, then she was separating herself from the pair of them, facing off against the darkness roaming through the fog.

Something shifted closer, and it was Pey's turn to use a charge, tapping into all the Fear Warrick had been collecting for her. He gave an eager rumble the runes on her daggers flared a bright red, and that color blurred as she fell into motion, lashing out in a flurry of blows and slashes that that earned a few furious howls from darkness within the haze.

Horace could indeed take a lickin', but that didn't mean he could dish one out. To his continued shame, Horace was still just Not Very Good at fighting. He enjoyed the adrenaline rush, the feel of things crunching under his fists, even the weird feel of some other creature's blood dripping from his knuckles. (Even though it vanished quickly, like all fear-created things.) As he moved forward, he stumbled, black hands snaking out of the pavement to twine around his ankles.

He kicked at them, eventually freeing himself, but not before they had raked angry, red lines down his legs.
