Of all the people Penelope had a hand in, Lovina was the most charming in the way only excited youth could be. Watching her was amusing, to say the least, and she wondered if anyone else she coaxed into the negaverse would be quite as elated as the teen before her.

"Something like that, yes." She chose her words carefully, as she always did. They weren't quite superheroes but they were like them in the barest sense of the word, depending on how one looked at it.

"You just need a touch of guidance, Lovi and that's what I'm here for." Her smile was a perfect, well practiced one that showed off her straight, pearly white teeth.

"We need a little assistance for that," she admitted, though she loathed the fact she had to rely on someone else, who wasn't even Miss Alkaid, to induct a person into their ranks.

Carefully she plucked a pen from her blouse and opened it up to the tablet the mauvians had carefully constructed. It took a moment of scrolling but finally she found what she was looking for.

"Requesting the assistance of any available General-Soverign, please."

requesting Axinite!
PostPosted: Mon Jan 15, 2018 9:25 pm

It was a matter of seconds before Axinite appeared, quite suddenly, only a few feet from Penelope. He had a look of perpetual fatigue about him, but there was something energetic in his eyes when he turned to face the two.

He offered a polite smile to each of them, but it was more than just a pleasantry. He might have given the impression of someone who was offering silent greeting, but the fact was that he was assessing them. Identifying potential issues and threats was something he had learned from his days in the Special Operatives Branch, and functioning in the Information Branch meant he was still keen on collecting data. His eyes did not linger for long; he was apparently satisfied, or at least unthreatened, by the two before him. His attention promptly drifted to the one who had called him there. “I apologize for the delay,” he said, perhaps expecting that he should have arrived immediately instead of after the few seconds of pause it had taken him to arrive.

“I have an endless stack of paperwork, and it does keep me. What assistance can I provide you?”

"General-Sovereign?" Lovi wasn't even sure what that phrase was supposed to mean. Ms. Rey said it like some kind of title, sure, but she never heard a title like that in the context of a school. Maybe this was one of those super secret group titles that some of the kids around school gave each other. Sort of like how the Dungeons and Dragons nerds liked to give each other nicknames that were way different than their normal names. She wasn't sure, but she didn't have a long time to think it over.

Lovibarely wedged her thumbs underneath her thighs to stop her fidgeting when someone else just… Showed up. She didn't know how else to think of it, as she stared wide-eyed at the strangely-dressed dude. He just appeared. Never walked in a door, didn't just sidestep into her peripheral vision, nothing. Bam, he was there.

And he looked super tired, like I-haven't-slept-in-a-week-it's-finals-time tired. She only saw that look of tired on the people who were either perfectionists or desperately didn't want to fail and get kicked out.

"Wow, um… Hi." Her greeting was a little lukewarm as she got over the shock of what she just saw. "Are you okay? No offense, you just look like you could fall over in a second." And how did he just pop on in here? Maybe Ms. Rey would explain it to her later. Or the guy would.

She worried for him, though. He looked like he could use about sixty cups of coffee to get through the paperwork he was talking about, and they were pretty against selling caffeinated beverages on school grounds. That's got to be a drag.

Penelope knew that the general-sovereigns were busy and she appreciated what promptness came regardless if she had to wait a moment. After all, they were the only ones who could induct new senshi or turn enemies into allies and she was but a captain, working her way towards general under Alkaid's watchful eye.

But her general seemed uninterested in anyone but her and her brother and she she sought to keep the ascendant-general undisturbed, especially since finding her in the belly of the rift was less than ideal. Alkaid was always working towards her pet project and her responses were not timely-- unless Pen was lucky.

Besides, after Periclase, Penelope didn't want to risk an embarrassing moment where she called for someone who couldn't awaken them into the fold. She had a reputation to uphold, after all.

"Ah, forgive me for the sudden request," the woman apologized, standing a little straighter with her hands held together before her. "I greatly appreciate your attendance."

Blue eyes cut over to Lovina and she gave the girl a disapproving look. "Lovi, please." To Axinite, she offered an apologetic smile.

"Forgive us, we're still working on some things." Clearly Penelope would have to coach her on how to say things like that in a politer manner. "I've been watching Lovina for a while now and would like to take her under my wing and induct her to the negaverse. Unfortunately, my own capacity to do is limited and I wanted to request a little assistance?"

Axinite took no offense to Lovina’s words; instead, he offered her the same polite smile he provided Penelope. “No need for apologies,” he said to the woman before him. “I am more than happy to offer my assistance. I trust your judgment. She will be lucky to have you for guidance.”

He approached Lovina with a leisurely pace, though everything about him indicated he was rarely anything but ‘all-business’. “I appreciate your concern, Miss Lovina. I assure you, my health is superb. I suppose appearances can be deceiving, though.” He did not seem to take any offense to her words; instead, he seemed to be amused by them.

He did not look at Penelope, but his question was directed at her: “Have you explained any of this to her?”

"Oh!" Lovi's hands shot to her mouth at once. She muttered a muffled apology. "Sorry!" Wide eyes darted between the two, wondering who to settle on first.

Her hands stayed where they were, pressed firmly over her mouth, even as the General-Sovereign approached her. She blinked up at him curiously. Sure, she understood a little of what was going on, but Ms. Rey was really good at staying cryptic about it. Some kind of extra curricular something-or-other that she called the Negaverse, yeah. And she might get extra credit out of it. Definitely guidance, though, and that pesky discipline that she always sucked at. But as for whatever else that 'Negaverse' meant? No idea. Maybe Ms. Rey explained it and her selective hearing just tuned it straight out.

She was pretty focused on actually passing her classes with a decent grade, after all. Could a girl be blamed?

She didn't think so. So while Mr. Super Tall and Super Intimidating was looking down at her, she was just nodding along to whatever he said. He was looking at her when he asked a question, but he kinda worded it to Ms. Rey, so she was totally confused, but it seemed like a good idea to nod along anyway. Usually important people wearing really complicated stuff liked it when she agreed with them. Or answered their questions positively. Or maybe she just looked like a bobblehead.

But whatever, as long as this guy walked away with a good opinion of her, right? She'd hate to get Ms. Rey in trouble after all of this.

Penelope kept her posture proper, shoulders squared and back straight, as Axnite approached her most recent recruit. While there were no visible signs, there was a tingle of nerves that coiled in her stomach. Last time, there had been no summonings, no additional hands besides introducing Daphne to the man who ran their school, and there was a part of her that hated giving up control and being unable to do the act herself.

Perhaps her time as a general would come sooner and she wouldn't need as much assistance except...she would always need a hand with her preferred class, Senshi.

It was better now to prove that she was capable in her judgement calls and to foster a proper professional relationship with the higher ups. She could deal and she would handle it with grace.

"Lovina and I have spent time going over everything, but I believe she'll need a first-hand experience to fully understand everything." Sometimes explaining things simply weren't enough.

“Of course,” Axinite agreed; there was only so much you could explain before you had to be able to show what you meant. Everyone was always more understanding when the power had been introduced to them; without it, it was too easy to dismiss the conversation as deranged ramblings.

“Then, let me take no more of your time with my questions. I trust your judgment and have faith that your lessons have been quite efficient. I will make sure you can continue them promptly. Now, Miss Lovina,” he turned his attention to the young woman and offered a polite smile. “I apologize in advance for this inconvenience. I know it might not make much sense now, but I can assure you I don’t mean to hurt you. Trust in me and Ms. Rey, that we have only your best interests in mind.”

He looked at Penelope knowingly, and then to Lovina with brief look of apology hidden beneath his polite smile.

Axinite didn’t procrastinate; he reached his hand forward and slid his fingertips through the girl’s chest. Her starseed was easy to find; it called to him. He gripped it with a careful touch, mindful to make this as painless as possible.

He gave her little time to adjust before he pushed the Chaos into her starseed. It rolled in, like waves against the beach, and soaked into her starseed almost as rapidly as Axinite summoned it.

"Okay, um, thanks Mr. — what?!" Lovi's eyes widened and her mouth gaped with his dude's hand literally went through her chest. Like at first she thought he might've been reaching for where he shouldn't grab, but no, fingers and everything just went right past her clothes and her skin and all. Like it wasn't even there.

She didn't even realize how hard she started gripping the chair. Her elbows locked and she sat back in her seat as far as she could, as if it might buy her some distance from this weirdo. But it didn't, and even though he sounded super nice and she wanted to believe he was a good guy, the sudden and disturbing pain beneath her chest was totally distracting her from that. She was pretty sure no one should be rooting around in her chest like that, she never had heart problems, but whatever this guy was doing really lit her up on the pain scale. Like, eight for sure. Maybe a nine. Functioning was out of the question, but thinking was getting pretty damned hard.

Okay, way damned hard.

It felt like he was trying to explode her from the inside out. Like she expected her everything to fly off her bones. And it was like, way deeper than her heart too? Like she couldn't put her finger on it because pain but somehow he went past that. He just jammed a whole bunch of hurt and pain straight into her very being.

But it didn't last forever. While she bit back a scream — can't show Ms. Rey her bad side — the pain faded, and new clothes washed over the ones she had. Green clothes, all military-like and pencil straight. Even if demonstrations were supposed to make more sense, she wasn't sure she understood any of this. She hurt, and now she looked like she was dressed totally different. "There are easier ways to change clothes, you know?" She wheezed breathlessly.

The thing that Penelope particularly liked about Lovina Lee was that she was eager to please and even impress her. It showed in the way she held herself, the way she conducted herself in the audience of Pen's superiors and it showed in the way she bit back her scream even as pain flooded through her.

It brought a smile to her mouth, the corners turning into a smirk that she had to reign in by the time the corruption had concluded.

"As always, thank you for your time and assistance, Sir." Blue eyes flicked from general-king to her newly christened lieutenant.

One day, she would have the power to do the corrupting herself and she hoped that it would be sooner rather than later.

"You're right, but nothing's quite the same as this." She seemed pleased, stepping over and gingerly touching her arm to check on her. "How are you feeling? The first time is the awful, but it isn't the worst."

Axinite smiled politely, but his brows were knit with concern he didn’t have to speak to convey. Penelope had asked how she was feeling, and he didn’t want to overwhelm their new recruit with more questions. Instead, he withdrew his hand and took a step back before immediately teleporting away.

With him left his intense aura, but it returned when he did only a few seconds later—with his typical ‘Welcome to the Negaverse’ care package. The information packets were all left on his desk, safe from the hands of anyone not qualified to read them. When the new lieutenant was feeling better, they could speak again—or Stellerite could pass along the information.

In his hands he had a plastic container; it was sealed, but clearly divided in a few seconds. Easily visible was a few cookies, a few chocolate pieces, and in the third section, orange slices; in his other hand, a blue sports drink. He set all of it down nearby, easily within Lovina’s reach, and urged, “When you are feeling up to it, eat a bit. Drink. It will help, I assure you. I have pain killers also, but what you feel now should fade soon enough.”

“Penelope,” he glanced at the woman. “You have a bond with her already. Forgive the assumption, but I trust you intend to look after her? If you’re up to it, I’d like to you to look into getting her in the system and introduced to everything. I think 'Chrysoprase' would suit her well.”

He eyed the lieutenant again and said to her, “I apologize, truly. I hope you can forgive me and look forward to the experiences this will offer to you. You’re in good hands, and your future is looking very bright. You’ll see soon, I assure you.”

The newly-minted lieutenant blew out a breath. Her hair clung to her face, her skin was slick with sweat, and her muscles felt tired like she just ran a marathon. But she wore new clothes, now — ones that fit her perfectly. And as she finally got the chance to look at herself, she thought she was pretty damn hot in this new uniform! Plus it was way better than the Romano's getup they always wore.

So when Ms. Rey touched her arm, she just nodded as best she could. Until she heard it got worse, that is. "Wait, what? It gets worse?" Flabbergasted, she stared from Ms. Rey to the guy that just had his hand in her chest back to Ms. Rey and repeat. She felt something incredible coming off the dude, she couldn't really say what, but it was sorta like coming home after like, a month away. And not just coming home, but coming home to her dad cooking her favorite foods, and everybody else was there, and they were on the cusp of a holiday. It felt way cooler than she expected, and she didn't really know how or why she got that feeling from him. But then he just vanished as quickly as he came, no explanations necessary.

She was starting to think this whole thing was a super weird dream. And she would've believed it if she wasn't still feeling some residual pain in her chest. It was even worse than getting her ears pierced by her older sister.

Then the dude was back again, with his strange sense of home, and some random packets and things. He kinda treated it like that one day they had a blood drive at the school, and she didn't think she lost any blood, but he was probably right about the eating thing anyway. Who turned down free food? Nodding, she shakily reached for an orange slice. How lit was it that they came ready to eat like that?

"Um," she paused, then put a hand over her mouth. "Forgive you for what?" She mumbled around the orange. "I got a totally new outfit out of it." And some other stuff too, she was sure. Free food too!

Then he called her future bright and she was pretty sure this guy was the best person in the whole Negaverse besides Ms. Rey. Maybe they were tied for best? She wasn't sure, she'd figure it out later. Right now she was pretty exhausted and still reeling from all the information they gave her. Plus it looked like there was more to read and learn with those information packets sitting there. "Thanks, um… I'm sorry, I don't really know your name." She flashed her best smile. She needed to work on those good impressions, after all.

Axnite received nothing but her best customer service/impress the boss smiles. Privately, she was amused that he had a container of treats at the hand and ready for instances such as this but it was smart, given how taxing being welcomed into the fold could be.

Her own had been rather unique, at the hand of the sole Ascendant-General, and she remembered the pain, along with the pain of her promotion, almost vividly. But Lovi was quite talented at putting on a face, if only to keep Penelope proud of her and she liked that.

"It would be my pleasure, sir," Pen answered, having already decided that 'Chrysoprase' was going to be kept close at her side. "I'm certain we can help her flourish."

Axinite couldn’t help but smile at the girl, perhaps a bit amused by her acceptance of things. “Good,” he said to Penelope; he hadn’t had any doubt that she would accept the role—and he fully expected she would more than excel.

And Chrysoprase would as well.

“I am General King Axinite,” he introduced. “Formally, at least. Informally, just Axinite. And Miss Rey will take excellent care of you, she’ll get you all sorted out, but if you ever have any questions or require any guidance, know that my office is always open and should you ever need me, I will be there. I’m very much looking forward to working with you.”

"Can I, like, flourish in bed for a couple hours? Because a nap sounds totally amazing right now." She was pretty sure dark circles were starting to show under her eyes, and they were notorious for making people look old. It looked like Mister Axinite basically had them tattooed on at this point, and no offense to him, but she didn't want to look that tired.

But she also didn't want to be disrespectful. "It's really nice to meet you." If she had more than just enough energy to get herself to her feet, her tired and pained response would've had a lot more vigor. Who'd have thought that putting a hand through a girl's chest would tire her out so much? "I promise I'll do my best to live up to your expectations! I wanna make you proud!" And there went most of that energy for bailing herself out of that chair.

She tried nonetheless, and with a little extra effort, pried her leaden limbs from cold plastic. "Um," Chrysie sucked her lips into her mouth for a second, "may I be excused?" That was about as formal as she could get right then.

But she really wanted out that door. Snacks were calling and bed was calling and she was pretty sure she wanted to check her chest for any weird bruises when she took a shower that night. And maybe jump up and down and scream her excitement when she got her energy back.
