“Be careful,” he said quietly as he smiled and closed his eyes after the kiss to his temple. Kaelan was so wonderful, it was amazing how Orien had managed to survive without him for as long as he had. He never wanted to be away from him again.

At some point, Kaelan must have called it a night for collecting coins. Orien assumed he must have dozed off or maybe his memory was playing tricks on him, but the next time he opened his eyes, he was in bed in clean clothes and his hair was braided, with Kaelan next to him.

It was a good way to wake up. And it was just as good a way to fall back asleep.

Instead of rolling over to use the trash can by the side of the bed, Orien inched closer to Kaelan to wrap his arm around him. He still felt gross, but rest seemed to be helping. And Kaelan’s presence was exactly what he needed.

He knew Kaelan was probably still asleep, but he didn’t care. He still mumbled softly, “I love you.”
