Who??” Reims scoffed, arms crossed defiantly over his chest as though that would make sure Zinkenite doesn’t change his mind about taking his starseed.

“I have no idea who that was. Maybe they’re not around any more because everyone else decided they were insane and we don’t want any of that bullshit. Or maybe you all killed them off, I don’t know. I’ve never met a Knight or Senshi who tortures officers, what the hell is wrong with people?”

He had no idea if it was true or not. He’d never heard of the Blood Moon Court but it sounded fake.

“Okay, but what are they supposed to do on worlds that don’t even have wifi? Of course they were born here. What, you think people will poof into existence on dead worlds with nothing else? Like, buddy, if you want to get rid of the Senshi and us Knights, then why not focus your efforts on helping us get these worlds and Wonders rebuilt? Humans have already ruined Earth. You can bet I’d rather not be here when there’s nuclear fallout from whatever war is coming next.”

Not that anyone asked him, but the Negaverse could have Earth. He and Yvoire were cleaning up their Wonders and Ganymede itself was already flourishing. They just needed to make it actually livable.

"You SENSHI made sure we can't -leave-" He shot back. "The Zodiacs sacrificed quite a lot of civilians to make sure that they could turn them into a barrier to keep us 'contained' so please try again, though I suppose they don't teach that since it might make your side 'look bad', much easier to just keep saying 'star seed, star seed, star seed."

He shook his head.
"Besides, you may not speak for all of your kind but it rather than fight US why not focus on these 'home worlds' that you have? If you want earth then join US and protect it. Honestly."

It, almost sounded like they were in agreement.

Reims took another step back when the man shot back, but there was clear confusion on his face. Nothing of what Zinkenite was saying made any sense to him. It seemed like it was all information from another era. Or maybe he just hadn’t talked to enough people yet to know what all of that was.

“I don’t know what the Zodiacs are???” he swore, a bit desperately because he didn’t want to end up as another coma patient in the hospital like Stirling, but he couldn’t just ignore not understanding!

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I never heard anything about sacrificing civilians, and I can’t imagine anyone that I know would be okay with that! But if we join you join you, then how can we focus on fixing anything? Dude, I’m only in high school, what do you want me to do?” Reims asked, arms finally uncrossed and lifted in a helpless gesture.

“I can only share what I’ve experienced, and that was someone literally taking a girl’s starseed. And being attacked by youma. How can I protect my friends from that? Much less protect the Earth?”

"Do you, HONESTLY think that any of my friends or family have -ever- been touched?" He said incredulously. "Well, one of them is a soldier like myself, so there is risk there, I admit, but they never laid a finger on those I cared about. Not once. I've had more people I care about being put at risk by Senshi trying to... to impale them on icicles or run them over with a bloody unicorn, and that's not even the nonmagical damage that knights and Senshi can do."

He lifted his arm, flexing metal fingers and the grimace was clear even through the mask, close enough perhaps even that you could see the scar over his eye, the slight, difference in blue.

"Thankfully, we've also got exceptional health benefits." he quipped.

None of his friends or family had been touched by the Negaverse?

Reims stared. He couldn’t help it. The man was flexing some crazy metal hand, attached to an equally crazy metal arm, and now that his attention had been drawn to that, it was a little more believable to wonder if the man’s eye was natural.

He didn’t know who could have caused that kind of damage. He certainly couldn’t. His sword was dull. Definitely not heavy enough to crush anything, either.

“But I’d be able to keep them from getting hurt, right?”

He had to ask. That was all he cared about. His own life only meant as much as he was able to keep his friends safe. He knew there was likely more to it than that. He knew there were probably risks. He didn’t really care if he had to give up going to school or playing baseball if it meant his friends not having to mourn someone else losing their starseed.

"Yes." The answer was simple. "We're stronger than you, we train our officers "If you were one of mine, do you think I wouldn't work to help keep them safe? Isn't that the point of serving with others? A connection, a family..."

"I left this city, years ago to do an assignment, and I returned and there were people waiting for me, is that the sort of thing you're missing? You'll have me, you'll have those who report to me... countless others whom you'll form connections with. Is it a little more... chaotic on your side of things?"

Yes, he could protect his friends. He couldn’t really say he needed a family. It wasn’t as though he’d ever really had one. Not one that cared about him, despite his wants and wishes.

Reims frowned, obviously in deep thought. His brows were knit together and there were waves of confusion and hope and resolve and determination and suspicion and acceptance in his expression.

“Do I have to decide now?” he wondered, because he didn’t know if he was ready. He didn’t know what joining the Negaverse entailed but it couldn’t be that easy, could it? “I have school tomorrow… and a group project that needs to be finished.”

He didn't answer Zinkenite's questions. He felt like they were probably rhetorical, anyway.

A small hesitation, knowing that this could slip away in a heartbeat, but if he pushed -

"No, you don't need to decide now, that would be too much like forcing you. You deserve time to think over a monumental decicion. Would you like to meet tomorrow, here, same time? Or... pick a day, and I will meet you where you choose."

It was a risky offer to make, but then he was 'only' a general, right?

"If you have more quesitons, bring them, I'll answer to the best of my knowledge and ability. Heaven only knows you deserve to hear the other side of things."

“You really think a single day is going to be enough for me to think about something like this?” Reims frowned, incredulous. The guy seemed like he was a little too eager about making him join.

He wondered how far the not wanting to do it by force could be pushed. He had the feeling that if he declined, he would be killed anyway.

“I have your name. Can’t I just message you?” he asked, because that seemed to be the most reasonable thing. “I’ll let you know when I’m ready, but… like… if I’m supposed to be making huge changes to my life, I want to at least prepare a little.”

"You'd be amazed, but like I said, pick a day, and I'll meet you; I don't believe your communication devices are compatible with ours, or I'd expect my officers to get a lot of...childishly taunting texts, to be honest."

He was trying so very hard to be patient.

Though he rather thought the knight was simply stalling for time at this point.

Reims frowned. He didn’t want to commit to a day. He didn’t know how long it would take him to sort things out. It might be sooner, it might be later.

“Two weeks from today,” he decided, but was also looking forward to proving Zinkenite wrong by sending him messages later.

Worst case scenario, he could always stand him up.

"Fine, I'll be watching and hoping," Zinkenite replied with narrowed eyes.
He could hope, but it was a thin one. Perhaps time would make the difference; sometimes, it helped, other times they buried themselves in the delusions of White Moon and had done with it.

Tonight, he'd done his duty.
