She tied it around her wrist. The magic was, as she had promised, extremely subtle: it smelled nice, as if it had just been spritzed with some pleasantly natural perfume, and when the bow was made a gently encouraging feeling would suffuse Hugbell for a few seconds. Nothing remarkable: only a sensation that she ought to try her best today, and impress - someone, possibly even herself. "As far as I've been able to tell," she said, "they don't stop working over time - you can do this every day, if you want - but I'm curious to know if they'll stop working eventually - or maybe even get stronger, although that seems unlikely. The Wonder makes them, I think, and I'm not sure how or with what power. Please keep it," she added, "and let me know if it ever changes. I'm sorry it can't do anything as impressive as your bear's." At this small compliment to the bear a little glowing wisp of light emerged from somewhere among her cloaking layers, anxiously bobbing around nearby, as if jealous of Joy's attention. She attempted to shoo it gently away again, but it hovered near her neck, and despite having no face or body language, seemed distinctively to be eyeing Barnaby with a threatening aura of possessiveness.

Hugbell tilted her head and after the ribbon was tied and she was fairly excited as she felt the encouraging feeling swelling up. "Oh this is neat!" She said as she gave a soft sniff to the ribbon as she noted the perfume scent.
"I do like this," She seemed thoughtful, "I don't think your magic ribbons will fade, I'm not sure why mine did unless it's because my world use to be so weak and it still hasn't completely recovered I don't know if it will."
She grinned, "I will keep it! I could use it when I go to my world and try to clean up and fix it. I think it'll help keep me motivated since there's a lot of repair needed."
She shrugged softly, "Also don't be sorry it's not as impressive as Barnaby's ribbon. His just helps me comfort others when they need it."
There was a chuckle when a wisp showed up and seemed to start bobbing around Joy when she complimented Barnaby.
Barnaby looked at the little wisp and even though it seemed threatening he just softly waved at the wisp.

If it were possible for something with no face to look offended, the wisp did, vanishing right back to wherever it had come from. Joy was watching Barnaby in some distraction, apparently lingering on something Hugbell had said. "Do you think," she said, "there's ever like - a point of actual restoration? I look around at what other people have done on their worlds and Wonders and I think maybe all you can do is chip away at something that's always gonna be out of reach a little." It was a broad question, and worth asking to just about anyone with the experience to give a good answer, and if she had her private reasons for wondering it, she kept them to herself.

She sat there thinking about the question after the wisp seemed offended and disappeared. She sighed, "To be honest?"
She swirled the last bit of tea in her cup, "It'll take years to make significant progress and in our lifetime alone, we may not have enough time to fully restore our homeworlds and wonders. I've been doing this since I was nine - mind you."
She looked over to Barnaby who'd sat down beside her, "I do hope though, we'll make enough progress that if and when we're reincarnated or our next version of ourselves is able to finish it and Chaos and time doesn't completely obliterate the work we've done."
She chuckled lightly, "But sometimes it's not worth looking too far into the future, it's more important about what you can accomplish now. And -- sometimes it's okay to ask for help too."
There was another pause, "Perhaps, though -- if we helped each other and teamed up we could make progress faster, and maybe reach goals we never dreamed possible. But that's considering we find people we want to work together with to restore each other's homeworlds and wonders."

She sighed. "It's hard to team up," she said. "I know people keep trying. But we're so scattershot - and we don't have - like - a unification of purpose like the other side does. They're concentrated on a collective goal, you know? And we're all out here trying to do something different with this power, and our attention is divided. Sometimes I feel bad that so much of mine is going into my Wonder." She paused, considering the current inhabitant of that Wonder and the ways in which he had squandered his life, and even his time in that place. "But I guess," she said, "that I'm just not willing to sacrifice the part of the job that makes me - well, not even happy - satisfied? I'm not willing to let that go just to spend every waking hour of the day fighting a war I didn't ask to be a part of. And I think a lot of us are like that. Maybe nursing our worlds back to health is the best good we can do. You know?"

Hugbell paused and looked at Joy, "Yes, but realize they're all hive minded. Chaos sits in their ear and tells them what to think and how to behave; granted with that not all Chaos agents are bad and some break free and come back to us." She said softly as she put away her tea things finally folding her hands once that was done.
"We're scattered and don't have a collective goal because we can all still think for ourselves on a larger scale. That doesn't mean you can't find people who share similar goals as you and team up with them. Or that what we're doing is wrong."
There was a smile, "You shouldn't feel bad about putting time into your Wonder, it'll get stronger that way. Your bond with it will also be stronger, who knows there might be a chance the bond turns into something more." She glanced softly at her glowing markings on her arms. "That said, I'm sure there's others that if you wanted any help to restore it or found a job too big and needed assistance they would be there to lend a hand."
There was a pause for a moment, "Also, that's what courts are for as well, those like minded individuals with similar goals to form something stronger than just one person. They can form a group that makes that connection more solid, and gives us more power."
There was a pause as she sighed thinking back to something that was just a memory now and thankfully never really seemed to pass, "Besides, no one knows what the future holds; you can have dreams that speak of utopias or dystopias but no one knows. Not to mention who knows how many timelines there are. I do think that maybe fixing our wonders and homeworlds are what we are meant to do right now. After all . . . . where are we going if something happens to earth?"
There was a pause as she seemed to brush off the doomsday bit, "Ahhh yes the war - I don't think any of us asked to be a part of it --- I still believe it's more of a balance game than something that'll ever end." She said with a frown, "I don't think we'll truly ever remove chaos from the worlds. It's like yin and yang I don't believe you can have one without the other. Or if you need a more nerdier comparison, the force with the light side and the dark side. That aside; I too believe focusing on what makes sense and can eventually be accomplished is the better course of action. It's healthier than focusing on something that can't be ended and must be learned how to be worked with."

She had wrinkled her nose at the idea of Chaos being a necessary component of existence, and chose instead to address something else that Hugbell had said. "I have already started to think of my Wonder as a bomb shelter," she said, sticking out her tongue in an exhausted sort of way. "I don't like to think of it as an ark. It's too - I don't know. I have nephews and nieces, you know? It's not a rosy thought. But I guess if it's going to be some sort of Ark, it does make sense that I make sure it's as healthy and comfortable as possible." This apocalyptic thought - their communities scattered like ashes on an uncertain wind - was too grim to dwell on. She gave herself a little shake. "But maybe it's like cleaning the house and then the guests cancel anyway. You might not have really needed it, but now your freezer smells better. You know?"

Hugbell seemed thoughtful at the words of a bomb shelter, "Hopefully we don't need it as a bomb shelter. Perhaps more like cowboy bebop or something -- where we just expand over the expanses and build space ships capable of jumping from one to another for those who can't teleport."
There was a nod though, "Yes the homeworlds do need cleaning and deorderizing I know there's still areas of mine that smell all musty and --- still looks like a carnival of terror instead of like a magical theme park. The main visitor area was -- well sort of Disney world meets Neverland."
She stretched a bit, "I might need to find a mauvian to help me fix some of it up so it functions again."

She wrinkled her nose again, thoughtful this time. "My Wonder smells fine. Which it shouldn't, since it's been sitting by a humid riverbed and half a moat for a thousand years. Even the underground parts are dry as a bone. Sometimes I wish I could see a map of the drainage system, but I guess it doesn't matter so much now. Maybe," she added drily, "a Mauvian had a hand in that." She paused. "I should probably go soon," she said, with a little sigh. "But I confess I just get relieved when I run into one of us who's not - like - absolutely insane. Thanks for helping me out back there, and inviting me in for a while."

"Well I suppose the musty smell might be from some of the plush that use to live there still somehow hasn't completely decayed" She looked over at Barnaby who seemed to have gone back to just being a stuffed bear.
She picked him up softly and took the ribbon from him before dismissing the ribbon into her subspace. "Yes I suppose it is getting rather late."
There was a chuckle, "Ah yeah it's hard to find some who've kept a level head with the magical aspect of life. Feel free to come visit me again, I'm usually in the area here. Unless I know something's going on."
There was one more pause, "I'd love to see your wonder some day if you'd show me. Perhaps I could show you my homeworld?"
