Great stuff. I really didn't know these dates myself and it's a very helpful starting point.

Maybe this year has seen an uptick in users? At least very old accounts have started to reactivate here and there.

Do we have any hard numbers we can go by as far as user count goes? I wonder if there's a record of that somewhere.

We need to look for the traffic analytic Red Bard used because I can not find a good one, the only I got with google was this showing a 7.77% decline in visitors. EDIT: Red Bard used a site Alexa rantings, I can not find it nor other site with reliable stats of the visitors. Seems that the decline started in 2008 when the site lost novelty from a statistic in the Red Bard´s video (min 28:04).

Ah, well I was hoping for a more accurate statistic like the online player count at a given time/date. Guess there isn't an easy record of that available.

Not sure how the metrics you're referencing could account for bot activity.

Today's Gaia staff is pretty friendly to users. I bet if we ask the right people we could request some statistics that may be trivial for someone on their side to generate. That would not be an entirely unprecedented level of staff cooperation with random user requests, from what I can see.

Mebbe I should save that for an Ask The Staff day.

Managed to catch an Ask The Staff today and heard back from Lanzer himself.

Looks like we won't have that kind of by-the-day metric available.

Unfortunately we would have to rely on third party sites and user posts. Btw on Red Bard´s it is shown that 4k users were online, from what I remember when I first joined before the death of flash I remember 3k and nowadays I have not seen 2k, but I also lurk at weird hours.

It's 3,095 right now, according to the front page, and I've seen it above 4k plenty. Seems like it's been the average for a while.

As mentioned above, I checked with the staff about metrics in the recent AtS thread and got a reply from Lanzer.
