"I will always listen if you need it," she answered quietly. "Even if i inevitably ******** it up five minutes later."
She did blink though at Elaine’s please to not be too hard on Nail. Granted, she really hadn't gotten the best impression of him initially, but they'd talked and mostly gotten things hashed out. She didn't mind him so much now. But may e she'd given the impression she did...
"He and I talked, you know," Myth blurted out. "That's first visit when you left us alone. We reached an understanding. He told me he'd always just been super reserved and he tries to be mindful of it. He even joked at me. So, I promise you things are okay. I'll be more careful how I joke around about him." She moved one hand from the steering wheel to make a crossing motion over her heart. "As it happens, I agree with you about him being a good and decent man. I think he was shaped by whatever he went through growing up and I'm not holding it against him."
The next time, if there was one, that she saw Nail, she was going to have to make sure that he knew she respected him and bore no ill will to him. But for now, she could reassure his successor. "Honest. He's all right by me. I'll cut back on the sass where he's concerned since I didn't realize how it came across. Thank you for speaking up about it because I truly meant no harm."
Maybe thanking her had been corny, but Elaine had opened up. Myth appreciated that.

She swallowed an undue urge to apologize - a rare impulse in her, an unwarranted apology - and therefore had to sit for a moment in silence, wrestling her way to something that she wouldn't feel ashamed of saying. "Thank you," she settled on, picking up the styrofoam container on the seat and digging into the omelet, radiating a displeasure that fairly dared Myth to say something about eating in her truck. "I knew you didn't mean it bad," she added, compelled by honesty and the spirit of justice to say it. "But it always made me feel like a d**k for not saying something." She stabbed a piece of sausage a little too aggressively with her plastic fork. "We should talk about something else," she said. Sharing a secret didn't necessarily mean she wanted to linger on it.

"Talking about something else," Myth agreed, eyes on the road. What else could they possibly talk about at the moment. She didn't want to bring up Wonders. That would only make Elaine think about things she didn't want to consider. And given part of the purpose of today had been to go out and raid sales for things for their wonders, she wasn't sure that she should suggest hitting up other sales. Well, s**t. Though, she might have something reasonably innocuous up her sleeve. "Halloween," she began. "I need your expert advice on a costume I'm planning. You're far more fashion inclined than I am and I want to make sure I do this right, if I'm gonna do it. What do you know about Great Gatsby era finery?" Maybe it was a reach, but it was a different subject and it was so harmless that there shouldn't be any way for either of them to feel offended or threatened.

She relaxed somewhat, the question and the mouthful of food giving her an excuse to pause and to let the tension dissipate. "Almost nothing," she said, "but I'd love to hear what you're planning." It was an acceptance of the olive branch and an offering of her own, and if she was grateful for the easy and unquestioning transition to easier subjects, she didn't say so aloud.

"Well, balls," Myth said calmly. "I don't really trust Hollywood's depictions and I don't have the patience to try and sift through old magazines. Though, hrmm," She paused, "Okay, I guess Gatsby and World War One had some space between them, huh. I wanted to do a fancy party dress like the upper crust wore around the time the War broke out. I think I've been reading too much Anne of Avonlea lately." Really it was the way dresses and fabrics were described that had caught her. Organza and lace and tulle... It all had sounded very bougie and she kind of wanted to be a little bougie for once. "I just wanted to avoid the standard flapper 'fit, I guess. Okay. Any modern eras you feel fairly knowledgeable with?"

With a great deal of effort, Elaine managed to continue to avoid sounding as sullen as she inwardly felt. "Well," she said contemplatively, "I guess you could watch Downton Abbey if you wanted some visual direction. But I'm not sure, to be honest - I guess all my enthusiasm is sort of concentrated earlier back. I think you could rock some Downton Abbey type thing. Or one of those World War One nurse type things. Although if you're going to be a nurse for Halloween you might as well just go ahead and be a sexy one instead. Or, like, Silent Hill." She wrinkled her nose. "Somehow I imagined you doing a cute mermaid, or something."
