She pursed her mouth peevishly, and mentally ran through a long list of proper court etiquette. The Sun was at its zenith outside, back in Houka, the streets would be empty of warriors and shopkeepers alike, everyone went to the temples to offer praise and Sacrafice to Lycra.
Here, in the Lumos' realm such unerring devotion was not neccesary, and yet... If the goddess wasn't already angry that they were peacefully conferring with her sworn enemy, than surely their negligence would do the job. She sighed, and gazed at the suddenly interesting floor tiles. In the background she could vaguely make out what was being said, and made sure to moniter that conversation at least subconsciesly, in case she was questioned. Her mothers motives weren't clear, she had sent Etsu along with the envoy, but what was her intent, to show her off like a polished jewel, Sure, she was a decent diplomat, but there were dozens of others more suited for that position than she, why not send a minor prince, or princess? As crown princess her tutors were mainly interested in schooling about the history of Houka, and religion. She had to study other, more important, things on her own time. Arithmatic, and language was maybe a once a week thing, she spent most of the time in the practice stables, and training with the other warriors on the dueling grounds. She found herself clenching her fists with antcipation, New kingdoms, meant new weapons, new opponents. Indeed, she would make her way to the fighting grounds shortly after this introduction, she vaguely wondered when the other ambassadors would arrive. She was curious to meet the esperanzan ambassadors particularly, the Domachi representative. Mechants had come to Houka with tales of a large dragon that took human form at will. She had scoffed at the idea originally, but here it seemed that anything was possible.

The queen was still in the peace talks with the Houkan Evoy... They weren't going so well. She was beginning to lose her patience and it was becoming difficult for her to keep that from showing. Most times it wasn't such a chore, but with war looming on her borders, she was wound very tightly. She needed to send out their own envoy to Houka; perhaps they'd be able to find some alternate agreement.

To this end, she nodded her head to Col. Pratt, one of her more familiar military leaders; the signal to send their envoy out. The night was half over, and they would need as much cool darkness as they could to travel through. She trusted him and his decisions on this front and after seeing him attend to this instruction, she resumed her focus on the Houkan emmisarries.

((Okay, just so everyone's clear; i've deleted Tolly's posts and as of now, Vermillion is not in Pearle; he will return when he's got all the Espernanzian representatives. Pleaser RP accordingly. Thank you))

Col. Pratt nodded his confirmation. The envoy was to leave tonight. He would infrom the Corporal, and send them on their way. He looked to his right, and nodded to the second guardsman at the door. Then, swiftly and silently, he turned on heel and marched from the room. He made his way through the Castle and into the courtyard, where he walked straight to Corporal Kaleb Vellar. He nodded to the Corporal, and said, "Corporal Vellar, your envoy leaves tonight. The Queen will send her chosen Diplomat when she has finished her audience with the Houkan Emmisarries." He threw the Corporal a salute and added, "Swift feet, Corporal Vellar. Lycra will not smile upon you when the sun rises."

With that, he turned once more, and headed back into the chamber. He slipped silently to his post, and nodded to the Queen. The envoy had been informed, and when their chosen diplomat was prepared, they left tonight. He said a short prayer for Corporal Vellar. The Houkans would not be so kind to this envoy as Pearle was.

Bemrise softly approached the Corporal and nodded to him in salutation, her eyes straining to finish the scroll she was reading by the moonlight. The night was a warm one, but that would change as they headed farther north towards Houka. She patted her bag, reassuring herself that all she might need was in there.

Having finished the small scroll and rolled it up, she gave a very slight smile to the small party that surrounded her. She had never been one to fraternize with military men on any occasion unless absolutely necessary; those kind of people were so totally alien to her personality and mindset that she often found herself unable to relate to them very well. Not exactly a helpful trait considering your destination, she chided herself. That was something she was going to have to work on during their journey northward; the military mentality. After all, that seemed to be all the Houkan people were taught...

((Crap, not tazers again. Will you leave me alone if I change the spelling to make you right?))

Faile smiled to herself as Rai strode into the dining hall. He had woken up late again. As much as he tried to seem inhuman and distant, she always saw the human side of him. The boy was very stiff minded about some aspects of life, and as impressive as he could seem to outsiders, he was like her little brother. Still, she kept her peace about him getting up late and let him eat his porridge and meditate in peace.

Of course, even without her, he was interrupted. The swishing of robes announced someone entering the hall, and from behind the large pillars lining the room stepped old Menclese. He was the temple's courier, and in his withered old hands were two letters. Faile's sharp eyesight caught the names on them, and she smiled again. Both were marked D'lora. Of all the alcoytes in the temple, there were only three named D'lora, and it had first been a source of much confusion.

Rising gracefully, Faile swept a curtsey as smooth as a wave and greeted Menclese. "Moonlight shine upon you father. What can we do for you?". Using the traditional greeting, she touched her lips and extended her delicate hand to the old man. Silent as always, Menclese merely placed a letter on it and stepped past her. With a movement surprising for an old man, he jumped over the table and set the other in front of Rai. Then, he shuffled off as if his ancient body where filled with rheumatism.

Faile's smile remained. She knew he was nothing like he portrayed himself, but that was his own business. Hers apparently lay in this letter, sealed by the high priestess herself! That made Faile's silver eyes widen slightly, and she looked towards Rai. The young man's dark eyes met hers in a silent exchange, and she shook her head slightly. Why had they, both alcoytes, been summoned by the highest priests in their religion?

And she blinked. The breeze had warmed since sunset, and whispered past her, gently waving her robes. The last hour was a blur, the sudden exclamations by both Rai and herself, the hurried packing, and the strange sense of unease. The letter had instructed her that she would be going with the Houkan envoy, and as much as the prospect excited her, she was still not comfortable with it. And why was Rai being told to advise the queen? He was no politician, even if he was intelligent and well trained. Shaking the questions away, her silvery hair caught the breeze as she started walking once more. It also irritated her how short a notice she had been given.

Luckily, she was far more fit than the group she was supposed to be in and soon caught up with the enovy. As awkward as it seemed, she still manged to be gracious and courtly once she caught up. With a simple introduction, and a token curtsey, she spoke "Moonlight shine upon you. I am D'lora, Faile' Anya D'lora. My apologies for being late, I hope it did not inconveniance you.". Her regal posture matched perfectly with her tone, and both spoke well of her. She was a priestess of Lumos, a protectress of the highest order, and she acted as one would expect her to.

((inverse writers block. Hope no one minds. Anyways, there you go aurea, I made them indespensible. They can now talk to eachother across the distance, making her a perfect choice as an envoy, and him a perfect advisor...))

While meditating, Rai reflected on several things. Faile sat across from him, as always with a gentle smile. Of course she was one of the things he reflected on. She was like a sister to him, they had been raised together, and even shared the same last name. That amused Rai, and also made him proud. She was one of the most powerful people he knew in combat, and to be on her level was an accomplishment worth boasting of. Of course, when he had lost, she had comforted him. It was odd, she took better care of the alcoytes than the priests assigned to did.

Another thing he was meditating on were his mentor's words. Rai had been told that sometime very soon he would have the need to serve Lumos actively. Although it meant breaking his vows to complete the Trial of Night, Rai would do almost anything for his mentor, and that seemed trivial.

His quiet reflections were broken by the sound of her greeting. Opening his eyes just in time to watch Old Menclese vault over the table, his hand instictively rose. Quick actions around him were bad things. But the old man shuffled off, leaving a letter behind. Picking it up, the seal of his mentor made Rai's heart jump out of his chest. Looking up to Faile, her eyes told him she had received something equally momentus. After a moment, they both exploded into conversation. Something they would never do with anyone else around, their excited chatter filled the dining hall, causing one of the servitors to peek in.

All the neophyte servant saw was two of the alcoytes, stand calmly regarding eachother. These two almost never talked, it was impossible for them to have been making the noise With a shrug, he withdrew, thinking he must have been hearing things.

The chatter had never stopped, just moved to a different level. It wasn't as natural as talking, but all of those with the name D'lora had found they could speak without words, and over great distances. Faile's excited exclamations echoed inside Rai, while his own exuberant statements were easily heard by her. He was going to be the personal advisor to the queen! And she was going to houka?! Suddenly, Rai's life was entirely different. Everything normal was changing.

They walked slowly down the hall together, back through the courtyard and into the dormitories. They continued speaking silently to eachother, now on a more subdued level. Yet again, Rai realized how much Faile meant to him. He would miss her. With a smile that he chouldn't see and words he couldn't hear, she told him she would miss him too. Even when they went to their respective rooms, they continued speaking, totally at ease with one another. Then, using farewells the world could understand, they wished eachother the best and had parted.

Now, Rai stood outside the royal palace. Behind him was a small, white bundle which contained everything he needed, and the bustling city. He wondered if his quiet knock would be heard. Muttering something about the porters taking hours, he released an exaggerated sigh at being made to wait. Knocking once more, the young man stepped back impatiently, a haughty expression etched on his face. It never once struck him as absurd that he was practically demanding service at the heart of the nation's capital.

Corporal Vellar smiled at the appearance Lady D'lora. "Good eve, milady," he said. "I'd been briefed on your arrival, however, it was very short notice, and Colonet Pratt insisted that I commence immediately. It would appear that he was right in his assumptions. You did catch up quickly." He made a slight bow, and added, "Corporal Kaleb Vellar, Lady D'lora. Pleased to make your acquaitance. However, we'd best be moving out before sunrise."

With that, he turned and continued towards Houka. He glanced to his left and right, making sure that his troops were still there, and then back to Lady Bemrise and Lady D'lora. He started to worry about having two such high-ranking women in his envoy, and that they would be a prime target for renegade Houkan Sorcerers. No matter, he told himself. Everything will be fine.

Rai happened to be at the kitchen entrance, where no guards were usually staffed and everyone was too busy with the clanking of pots and pans, the scrubbing of giant cauldrons and the fixing of foods for the entire palace community to hear the meager knock of the young man.

However, upon needing to dump a large pot of spoiled turnips, an old cook's assistant opened the door wide, pot in hand and ready to toss the whole contents of said pot out and to the right where a compost heap gave off it's pungent aroma.

"Goodness gracious alive!" She exlaimed, her face gleaming with the sweat of many hours in the hot kitchen. The look on her face wavered between fear and awe at the sight of a member of the temple who was also looming unhappily in a doorway saved for servants. "Guards!!!! Guards!!!!" She yelled in an old and worn out voice, slamming the door shut in his face.

A few moments later, two guards in royal livery opened the door, both looking menacing enough while the old cook's assistant chattered on in the background "well I di'n' know who he were! Comin' 'round the backsid o' the palace like he done!" The guards ignored her completely and addressed the boy in his white robes.

"You were to report to the main gate; don't you know you aren't allowed to enter through the back? Makes you look suspicious-like" The older one growled out in a gravelly voice. "Now I ain't got the orders to let no one in through this here back door and that means you; and I dun' care what yer piece o' paper hasta say. You git yurself around to th' front gate an' let 'em look at that slip o' writing you got there." He finished with a nod that brooked no further conversation and so ending his speech, he closed the door soundly in Rai's face and bolted it shut.
