Corynth turned in surprise. What was this? He leaned down so he could be a bit more on the foal's level while he spoke. The poor thing was clearly uneasy but brave. He respectfully let the colt finish speaking before responding solemnly. He always treated the foals as if they were just as important as the adults. He saw no reason to talk down to them, or spoil them with cooing and cutsie phrases for things.
"Thank you for seeking my permission, young sir. You are more than welcome to rest with us as long as you have need. All that we have is at your disposal." He then smiled warmly and nuzzled the handsome little guy. "And if you find you'd rather just stay with us, that would be fine as well. We would welcome you, most especially Zereal." He flashed a grin at his adopted son and then raised his head. "I am Corynth, leader of this herd. And this is Goodheart, one of the fair mares who is part of our family."
Zereal had trailed behind and stood back to let his new friend make his little speech. He had sobered upon hearing that this was another waif lost from his family. Having been just the same himself, he knew the sober feeling of approaching big Corynth and asking to stay. So he did not interrupt nor make any silly interruptions. This was serious business, even in his young eyes.
Goodheart meanwhile watched and listened without comment. As usual she glowed, even without sunlight to reflect off her pale hide. She watched the young supplicant with a gentle smile, and bowed her head graciously when introduced. "It is a pleasure to meet you, young one," she spoke softly, like a warm murmuring summer breeze. It truly would be good to have another young one about. She knew Zereal had been lonely. That happened to be another thing in discussion between her and Corynth, although at another itme. Their herd, small though it be, had many needs that they must meet.

Huvar smiled slightly. He hadn't expected them to be so nice to him. "Thank you sir. If there is anything i can do to help you, just let me know." he said and then bowed his head in greeting to the mare called Goodheart. "It is a pleasure to meet you both." he told them happily. His tail flicked as he turned back to Zereal. "So, if Corynth and Lady Goodheart have nothing for me to do at the moment we could play."

Corynth neighed at the two colts and threw his head to indicate that they run off. It amused him that this new foal was so very serious about not only the world, but himself as well. He only hoped the little one would learn to laugh at himself as well.
Zereal gave an excited squeal as they were dismissed. He dropped his sober demeanor and bolted off, laughing over his shoulder at Huvar. "Catch me if you can!"
Goodheart watched them go, standing next to Corynth. Se whickered a low and soft chuckle. "So young, to be off on their own, aren't they?" Sadness touched her voice. She hated to see the young grow up too fast. "Keep them playful as long as you can, my friend. All too soon life will heap more serious burdens on their young shoulders. At least here, among us, they can be young."

"Don't worry, i will." he laughed and sped after him. He flapped his small wings but didn't rise more than a few inches and then fell to the ground. "I will catch you on foot then." He said and ran as fast as he could after Zereal.

Zereal darted in an out of the trees, zig zagging wildly before making a beeline for the lakes edge. He gave a flying leap and landed with an amazingly huge splash for such a small critter.
His leap plunged him down underneath the water's surface, and for a moment he hung, suspended in the water, looking about himself with wide eyes. He then kicked hard and broke the surface with a large spray and much shaking of himself.
Paddling about in the refreshingly cool water, he looked back towards shore to see if Huvar would follow him into the water. He was finding he had a great liking for it, though he preferred it now, in the cool of evening when the sun did not reflect blindingly off it.

Huvar eyed the water. "Im going to regret this." he said and jumped into the water. He swam after him, trying to leep his head above the water. "I....don't.....like....swimming." he said each time he took a breath.
He fluttered his wings, which were still under water. "Even though i don't liek water, im still gonna getcha." he said and swam as fast as he could towards Zereal.

The blue foal was surprised by how quickly his friend had jumped in after him, and was promptly caught. However, he felt rather guilty about leading him into something he didn't like, and so paddled back towards shore.
"Let's get out of the wet stuff, huh?" he commented to Huvar. He kept an eye on him closely, concerned that the other colt might not be able to keep his head above water much longer. He glanced up to see if the adults were watching over them, which of coures they were. Reassured, he nipped Huvar gently on the shoulder.
"When we get out of here, it'll be my turn to get YOU!"

Huvar swam after Zerale. Once he reached the shore he collapsed, exausted. "Im..im tired." he said with a yawn. He looked up at the sky to find that it was darkening. "I..i think we should head bac know." He said and forced himself to stand up.

Concerned for his young friend, Zereal hurried over and let Huvar lean against him. He nuzzled him comfortingly. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were so tired. C'mon, I'll show you were it's safe to rest."
It was a bit of a walk, but he helped hold the darker colt up, leaning shoulder to shoulder with him. When they came to the willow tree bracketed by thick thorn bushe, he nosed aside the drooping branches. "C'mon, in here, not much further," he encouraged his friend.
Then they were within the sanctuary of the glade. The moon, now up, shone kindly down upon the two foals as they staggered to collapse in a heap nearby an already dozing Reesa.
"We are safe here. Now you sleep, Huvar. There'll be plenty of time to play," and here he yawned, growing weary himself. "Plenty of time to play another day." He fought off another yawn, but his eyes were sliding closed. Snuggling up to his buddy, he laid his head own and dropped off to sleep, thinking how nice it was to have someone like a brother.

At first, Forsynth was very worried as the love of his life began hopping around and yowling in pain. But then as she quit looking so pained and gave him a sheepish grin, he began to giggle. He lovingly nuzzled her wing, careful not to put too much pressure on the protesting muscles.
"I guess it's time for a break, hmm? And just in time! We're getting close to my herd's lands!" His pace quickened, hooves drumming on the ground rhythmically. By sunset, he figured, they would be in the valley.
But something was beginning to prickle between his wings. Something was not right. For a time he could not put his hoof on it, but it kept niggling in the back of his mind, even while he chatted cheerfully with his mate.
But as the day passed, small signs of what was wrong began to appear. Sickly looking plants and animals who seemed unsettled. There were fewer and fewer birds and animals as they continued along, until at last the forest around them was empty of life, and the trees were clearly dying.
His pace increased to an all-out gallop, trusting Lady to be strong enough to keep up. He pelted up towards the trail to lead them into the mountain pass, but came to a screeching halt with a rear and a sharp whinny of dismay.
Before them lay the trail that led up to the mountains, and down towards the lower lands. It was a scene of great destruction. The land nearest them was burned and covered in ash. And further on there was a mass of dark rock that radiated heat and still made odd sounds and popping noises.
His eyes were drawn upwards to the mountains, where the flow of black rock extended from. The largest mountain, that had been at the head of their valley home, was smouldering and glowing red. Nothing could have survived the path of this horrible event. His home was gone.

This was... terrible.
Since she was abandoned as a child, Lady had been forced to improve her senses in order to survive the cruel world she had been brought into, especially since her younger brother had been her charge. As a result, Lady had noticed the changes - mostly in scent. She had caught whiffs of awful smells on their way here, but she'd passed it off as nothing; maybe a dead animal.
But this - this was..
Lady had tried to keep up with Forsynth, but was forced to go a little slower thanks to her growing belly. She gave it another odd look; she hadn't been eating too much lately, had she? It certainly felt swollen - perhaps she was sick.
But this was no time for that. Lady crept up to the frozen Forsynth's side, solom and quiet as her hooves parted the ash and dust; she was careful to keep her mouth closed. She knew what this was; she'd seen it before. Destruction.
"... I'm sorry," Lady said, ears unable to stand the blowing winds for company any longer. Had Forsynth's heard stayed where they were, there wasn't a hope that they were still alive. Yet... great fires that spouted from the earth gave warnings before it belched out its flames. If Corynth was anything like she'd heard, Lady knew he had some knowledge of this. She gave an expectant look to Forsynth, wondering if he had come to some sort of conclusion.

After a time of absolute silence, his Lady broke his mind's wild circling over the horrible sight. He gasped a deep breath, ignoring the blowing ash, and turned to nuzzle her.
"Corynth is a good leader. He would have gotten as many as he could away safely from this... this.....," He found he could not put into words the utter destruction of his home, so he stopped trying. He leaned against his mate instead and took another deep breath. Somewhere in the back of his mind he puzzled over her very rounded sides But conciously he was gathering himself.
"We must search for them. Are you willing to continue with me, my love? I don't know where we are going, nor how long before we find my herd." He curled a wing over her protectively as he spoke. He would never force her into anything she didn't want to do, nor make her do what was uncomfortable. But he did so want her with him.
((Any of the other yuma are available for rp, if anyone would like to wander over to the herd's lands!))

"Of course I will," Lady responded with a small smile - small in grim times. Aha. Lady wasn't one for bragging, but she knew she'd been right about her assumption on Corynth. Oo, she could hardly wait to meet him!
A sudden coughing spasm erupted in Lady, and she doubled over in order to force it out. "We need to get moving," Lady wheezed, "the ash in the air..." She made a face to explain further what words could not.
"Which way'd they go?" Lady questioned her mate, recovering from the sudden blast.

As the sky got lighter, Huvar started to stir. After a little while he opened his eyes and nudged Zereal. "Wake up sleepy head." He said and looked down at his hooves, noticing that they were biger. "What the..." he stood up, he was taller than the night before. "Woah, i grew. Cool. Sitara will be so...." He trailed off, Sitara, his adopted mother. He knew she would have been proud.
