Well, after a year my teacher started complaining to my mother that I needed a more advanced violin, and eventually got another one..and another one. I've gone through 5 violins sadly. One day I took my first violin out from under my bed and tried to play it. God was it horrible sounding, I could hardly play it, not to mention it was a 3/4 size. So my mom got rid of it

Yes, everyone has their own personality that's expressed through their instrument, even you will eventaully. I know one boy, Daisuke Suzuki, he's in my quartet, amazing violinist. He moves so wildly when he plays, it gets your adrenaline rushing just watching. Lol. His personality is energetic and always happy, that's exactly what I feel when he plays. I love him gonk heart

I have a beautiful, sleek, black Concert Edition Yamaha 120 Silent Violin. As seen in my sig.

I still have one broken string on it, which I should really get around to fixing. Sigh.

I bought it because I wanted a nice looking violin, electric, so that I could keep the sound down whilst I practice. I still on occassion bother my roommates because I play after midnight when I'm bored. I can run it through my computer.

I also wanted a skeletal violin, something sleek, black--something I could see an elf playing.

Hey!!! u got a pink one, that is soooo cool! Mine is a rip off the Strativariuos... it is about the same kind, only it was made poorly so it is coming apart... at school, my conductor was nice enough to let me borrow a real one!!! To play at school i mean, it's so nice... anyway, mine was made by a guy named Sneider(?) in Germany in about 96, if you know who made it, please tell me because now it plays like crap, and i want to fix it!

YaY I lurves when people think its cool! I brought it to school today because I finally got the strings on it and a lot of people said it was cool. Suprisingly enough my conductor wasn't mad tht I brought it..she just decided to nickname it pepto -_-...

That's interesting, because I personally can't see an elf playing an electric violin... to me they would prefer the natural wood, playing in the treetops to the stars... sweatdrop Sorry, I'm a really romantic, bad poet. Can you tell?

That sounds really rude, like I'm bashing electric violins. I'm not, I just personally don't really like them.

Also, the value of your violin doesn't matter. Whether it's pink, from eBay, or a $10,000 violin, unless you're really competitive, doesn't make a difference unless you love it. A technically better violin shouldn't be chosen over one you love, unless it's your major or your job or something.

My old violin was named Galadriel, and I had her when I was eleven. She was probably only worth $250, but I loved her. I only upgraded when I was outplaying her, and breaking strings every two seconds. I didn't even want to then, but we had to trade her in.
That is really hard, even with a caring, private, non-commercial dealer; leaving the violin that has brought you so far. Letting the owner take her and hang her up gently on a hook in the shop was really difficult, you know?

your right. Every violin has a personality and it shines through when played. I bought my first violin 2nd hand from a music store and I got it half off because they thought it was broken. Only problem, the bridge had fallen ^_^ so it was like 400 bucks for something that should have been worth like 1000. My new violin I also got on e-bay and it sounds pretty good, a little more squeeky but thats because the woods not aged...either way violins are great no matter what shape size or price.
