Y'know, if they really want people to eat more of some food groups, they should work on making that s**t taste better. I hate most fruits and vegetables. I don't eat salad at all, and probably won't unless they figure out a way to make it taste like a bacon cheeseburger or a chocolate milkshake. D:

Meh. According to that, I need 1800 calories a day.

Bull. They're gonna make me fat. It's like 1400. I'm small, female, and inactive. They leave out the size of the person.

I always told myself if I couldn't taste at all I'd be thin; I could live on health food and it wouldn't matter. crying But nooo, of course I can taste, so of course I eat tasty food and I'm fat. xp Ah well. I'm happy and I can still walk, I think that's what matters right now at least!

^_^; They're really right when they say exercise keeps you thin! Or at least, it keeps you at the right weight.

I was 135ish [pounds] before badminton season started. Now I'm closer to 115. whee

And since I exercise... I can eat whatever I want. YES. xP Today I ate a hamburger from In-N-Out. It was GOOOOOOOD.... *drool*

Besides... vegetables and fruits don't taste THAT bad. I eat strawberries with whipped cream... oranges and apples and pears are all tasty, and grapefruit is okay too... xP I don't like vegetables as much, but Ceasar[?]Salad is pretty good, and I'll eat celery and raw baby carrots. :] I'm a pretty healthy-food kind of person, actually...

I still like my sugar and sweets though.

Atkins is appealing cause it's easier than the pyramid...
How is it easy? Dropping carbohydrates altogether seems pretty damn tough. Stupid, too.

I wonder why Dr. Atkins didn't have an atopsy, so we couldn't see the awful clogging of his arteries?

The food pyramid is generalized, not fitted to each person, so I follow what I think is healthy through a variety of foods. Our bodies often crave what it needs, sweet tooths don't count xd .

I think I rotted my sweet tooth out xd .

The whole POINT of a food pyramid is to make it easier to remember what to eat. The point is NOT to have a long list that involves decoding and specialization and a half hour to read.

Not that I'm saying "screw health!" More like "the general public won't bother to do this."

This pyramid wouldn't be nearly as popular, methinks.

Cause you don't have to balance eating certain amounts of various food types. Just drop one and eat a bunch of the other.

It theoretically works because proteins are the last of the three fuel sources (carbos and fats are the other two) to be used by your body. And excess proteins eaten pass through your body without being absorbed and stored. That is, muscles are your protein stores, so no new stores unless you make new muscle and since you don't want to eat away your muscle, you use it after your fat stores (in adipose tissue) and your carbo stores (in your liver). Thus if you eat only proteins, it doesn't add to your weight and if it does it is as energy burning muscle tissue. And then your body will turn to using up fat stores. Obviously, semi-starving your body is not exactly a good thing...

Whoa, they still have Channel 1? I used to watch that in Middle School, but they don't show it here in NC.

I have a distinct lack of taste. I do not have true TOTAL no taste. However, if I take the paper strips that are suppose to be really strong and all that...
I taste none of them. Ever. At all. Perhaps one, just a tiny bit, with a million strips in my mouth.

I mostly go on texture, and what little bit I can taste. Yeah...
steak? No taste. Just slimy meat. Ewww. xO
Brocolli? Meh... it has this... rather... vegetable-in-general taste that seems a bit ... stronger? I don't know.
Sweet stuff tends to have some taste to it... but not enough to make me go 'fomgz candies n soft drrrrriiiiiiiiinks!"
I like sprite. Lots. I love it. It's refreshing. xD
However, I also like Verners. The original ginger ale...
not that weak crap that you get elsewhere. I mean this stuff hits you. WHAM. And most people don't like it..
I only taste a bit of the sweetness, and the way it feeels. mhmmm. Good stuff.

Yeah. Pop has different textures to it...
...dew has waaaaaaaay too much sugary-ness in it, or SOMETHING, cause I don't like it so much. . . Yeah...

Well, by your logic, with the "seeds on the inside," I listed other seeds-on-the-inside fruits/veggies, and then forgot what the heck I was talking about because obviously, I'm not awake yet.

The ripened ovary or ovaries of a seed-bearing plant, together with accessory parts, containing the seeds and occurring in a wide variety of forms. = Fruits

Vegetables = A plant cultivated for an edible part, such as the root of the beet, the leaf of spinach, or the flower buds of broccoli or cauliflower.

Wow, I'm impressed that they actually went to the trouble of making the whole "food pyramid" thing easier to understand. The whole "ounces" thing in reference to the amount of food was really annoying and never really made any sense. It was rather discouraging, really.
I may actually have to check out the new site. I've been looking to lose some weight and get in shape lately so it might be an interesting read.

Eh. Ive never set my diet around that stupid triangle anyways. I eat mostly fruits and veggies. Good amount of beans and grains, too. No dairy. No meat. As little animal byproducts as humanly possible. No sugar either. Except when I get Ice Cream. But thats only once every few months.

In Canada, we have our Rainbow guide, although nutritionnists are working on it in order to make it more accurate to today's need. They will also eleminate the "serving" notion as it's considered confusing.
