Red smirked at the damage, recalling inflicting much the same kind of pain on Palesa at one time, of course she had suffered much more than one swipe. He was just getting warmed up. Stepping back a few steps this time he wanted a run up, delighting in harming others in a way Na abhorred.
And there was nothing like a white canvas for his artform.
Flexing his claws he charged, aiming another swipe at her side, laughing like a lion gone mad, this time intending multiple swipes. Na's visions the next day would be very entertaining indeed, he'd make sure of it.

She heard him stepping back, and growled inaudibly under her breath. That was it, she'd had enough. If he thought he was about to use her for a scratching post like some truely defenseless tree then he had another thing coming. He was out here alone, same as she was, and she was sure that if she could fool him into believing that she was as stupid as her other half, she could outsmart him enough to survive without being used for a chew-toy.
When he was upon her Tai reared up by pushing forward and down on her forepaws, sending her scrambling backwards out of his way with a furious hiss. She had not managed to avoid all of his attack, and actually earned another score of claw marks on her left cheek.
Her fur bristled and stood on end as she turned to face the male, only taking one step back to brace herself with an angry stare.
"That's enough! I'm not some little mouse for you to jerk around!"
She spat malice with each word, further provoked by the blood dripping from her normally emaculate pelt.

Red was surprised at the turn of speed Tai displayed, almost falling over as most of his strike hit thin air rather than the intended flesh. He only just managed to get his footing and whirl round to face her, tail flicking.
However, he let the suprise drop as soon as he heard what she had to say, instead leaving it replaced by his manic grin. "Yes! That's it! Dont take it lying down." The sheer hate in her words gave him a thrill. "And correction, NOW you aren't some mouse to jerk around, but a minute ago? Yes. Yes you were." he grinned. "As if it wasn't bad enough b***h slapping my alter ego into growing a spine, now I have to do it to random strangers." he cackled darkly.

Ausi simply glared back at the other and turned to start cleaning at the woulds she could get to first, the ones on her right shoulder. She'd be damned if she tolerated physical abuse like THIS for that wretch. She had to catch herself quickly to keep from giving away the fact that it had just been an act, no, she didn't want to reveal that so easily. Not now.
"So am I to assume that the nonesense about this pride not tolerating strangers was also a lie? That desperate for company that you can't win over on your own, sweetheart?" She crooned sarcastically as the bitter taste of her own salty blood washed over her palette.
~If that were true then my brother and the whore with him wouldn't have gotten into these lands.~

Red laughed maliciously "This pride would welcome strangers even if they came with fangs bared and claws at the ready. Cowards all, they wouldn't harm a fly." her insult was ignored as he chuckled even harder "Oh no, I'm not desperate for company but I do delight in pissing other lions off. And I'd say in this case, it's a mission accomplished."
He smirked "But a pride like this is easy pickings for those of us more cunning than the rest. Although I do wonder, are you that cunning or is it all simply a bluff to save your skin, one that will falter?"

"Don't insult me so." She snorted softly. "I do what I do to save my skin, because MY other half is too weak to do so." She growled, blue eyes ablaze. Her eyes traveled over to Red, pausing in her cleaning without regard for the blood dripping down her fur on both sides, for the moment. "But that doesn't mean I can't bite back."
A pride with arms open wide, was it? So then maybe her other self had been right to think her brother had changed... in which case, it would be a shame not to see this for herself. Maybe she'd make home here instead of that stupid jungle that push-over of a priest called home.
"Your name." She demaned simply, looking Red in the eye. Yes, she was sure that she could hold her own against this one, one way or another if it came down to it.

Red could barely help laughing more at the irony of the situation. He'd never have thought in a million years that he'd come across another lion with the same "problem" he had. Constantly saving your own skin just because an idiot sometimes took the helm. As soon as he got some manner of composure again he stated "Not so different then, eh? I will do almost anything to look out for my own hide but at the same time to make life as difficult as is it is possible to for my other half who is a coward and a fool and needs to start looking at reality rather than his happy little seer dream land." He growled darkly "But yes, no doubt you can bite back, but the question is could you do so as well as the only son of War?" He hated Mrost with a burning passion but that didn't change his bloodline.
"My name is Red. Anyone who tries to call me Na-Be is terribly mistaken."

Not so different, hardly. Ausi once again found herself holding back a biting insult of her own, she hated when others tried to compare their problems to her own, as if they understood everything without knowing her. Though on the outside it would certainly seem as if they did have a common trait she would not give him more than that.
"I'm more than certain that I could, Red, and call me Ausi. Call me anything else and I may be provoked to demonstrate the prior statement first hand.
"So, son of the god of war, are you? And how, praytell, may I ask did you get stuck with such a lesser half? Chasing foolish ideals to convince himself that daddy really loves him?"
She hoped the answer was no, it would be just one more thing that they had in common, even if they were still world's apart in her mind. Perhaps she should be somewhat grateful to this one, he'd managed to give her full control, something that she hadn't had in a long time, and his continued presence kept her other side in check. Yes, she could certainly get to like this. And indeed, what memories could she leave behind for her other side to witness, or rather, what could she subject her other half to while she was helpless to do more than watch?

Red casually flicked his mane out of his face, content for now to play along with this female, not calling her bluff nor rising to her barbed statements, besides, he was Red, he did what he liked and it took more than mere words to phase him, only Na suffered from truly hurt feelings. Smirking he mentally approved of her confrontational manner. "Oooh, a fiesy one, are we Ausi? I like that in a female, such a rare trait these days when all you see are contented and silly little girls who never grow up" he glowered.
"As for why I exist. It is because the idiot cannot look after himself. He deals with his problems by throwing stupidity and enthusiasm at them, pretending that everything is all right." he laughed "When really, it isn't. His father wants him dead, and as such, wants me dead too. There is and never has been love between them, only fear and hatred. But I will break Na one day, shatter his delusions in one fell swoop and make him finally see how he has no option but to face his father." he prowled away a short distance and sat down. "I do so by every night, every chance I get, making his life affect him, torment him."
He bristled "Make him feel the emotions that at the moment only I am stuck with."

"He does sound a lot like my other half." She admitted reluctantly under her breath.
The blood was beginning to clot and matt her fur, she cringed with distaste but left it for the moment.
Perhaps she was too hasty in assuming that they were nothing alike as he said. They were alike in enough ways that maybe they could help each other, that was good enough.
"Well, Red, perhaps we can help each other a bit in that area, then. We seem to have common goals."
She stood to all four and ignored the biting pain in her shoulder as she did so.
"Take me to the nearest watering hole or river."

Red grinned a little wider, someone knew the pain of being the intelligent one in a fool's brain. He nodded "Indeed, perhaps we could be of use to each other, possibly inflict more problems on our less favourable halves together than we could alone."
He got to his feet again and looked over his shoulder darkly, he did not enjoy being told what to do. But this once, he would humour someone else and not snap or lash out as he was want to.
Without even telling her to follow him, he headed off in the direction of the waterhole, trusting that she'd follow.

Ausi smirked, easily moving into a comfortable stride. It wasn't so much that she was trying to boss him around (even though in the end she was doing just that, and probably on purpose), but she hated asking and saying please. She hated it because it made her feel like she NEEDED people's cooperation. Truthfully she'd simply been trying to say (without saying) that she wanted his continued company even if she had to search for it. Her dignity would have hardly been scratched if he'd blown her off with such a demand, but a question gave room for a more embarassing type of rejection.
"So, did you have something in particular in mind, sweetheart?"
She seemed to like using that nickname though gods-knew it held no affection in it's context.

Red was actually rather pleased for a change, though he didn't show it as he walked along. He didn't half mind having found an individual in the same figurative boat as him. He wondered, was she as painfully deprived of the good emotions as he was? He never got a chance to feel true wonder or happiness, love or contentment, all he got were the things that Na would never embrace, like worry, judgemental inclinations and depression.
It was for that reason that he wanted to inflict all those things on Na, make him hear that silent scream inside his head that never ever stopped.
"Oh I always have things in mind. Tormenting Na is easy, all I have to do is partake in some thing that repulses him and goes against his grain. Like sleeping around, murdering animals for no reason other than the thrill of it and generally being an a*****e. All those things give him horrible flashbacks during the day." he cackled bitterly "In addition to other things. That sonova is a Seer and only he can use the abilities. I'm left out in the cold wondering what the hell is coming."
He gave her a strange look for the nickname but didn't comment, simply led the way through the dark towards the waterhole, which rather luckily, wasn't far.

If he would have asked, he would have found the answer to be yes. While Tai did feel the ocassional fear, just as Ausi was lucky enough to feel ocassional bouts of joy, though it was limited just as Tai's. There was a point that if either experienced too much of those opposite emotions, the other conciousness took over in their steed. Perhaps it was a trade off.
Ausi let loose a small sadistic laugh. She'd only ever been able to vent her anger on Tai by sleeping around willingly with the males that Tai found offensive for their cruel behavior towards others, and drawing out her prey's suffering on hunts.
As the watering hole came into view, no other animals in sight at this hour, Ausi picked up her pace a bit and strode ahead, having a better look. She hadn't said a word to Red yet since his last answer, but her laughter earlier was clue enough that she'd been paying attention. For now she eased into the water until she came up to her shoulder, settling for pawing at the wound to melt and clear away the clotted blood from her clumped fur.
"So, what say you to a hunt and a little... fun afterwards?"

Red let the silence take over for a bit, padding down to the water's edge himself, preferring the way it looked here in the cool of night to during the warm day. His "banishment" to nighttime had been more of a blessing than a curse he found. Lapping some of the water, he avoided meeting his reflection in the surface, instead watching Ausi. He didn't regret hurting her in the least, after all it had broken through somehow to the other soul beneath.
Sometimes he wondered if the seer abilites drove him as much as Na.
As she posed her question, he grinned maliciously. Oh that would work. Nothing would torment Na more than to know that Red had broken his promise and plagued him with nightmares, but more than that, had aided in fuelling the darkness of another lion.
"That sounds perfect to me. Make them suffer."
And for once maybe give himself something to enjoy.
