No, that's inaccurate.
There's no proof of this. Plus, it makes no sense.

Besides, that would be pretty stupid of him to do. He could of just kicked Itachi out.

There are ten rings in total. When someone dies someone else takes his ring. Like when Sasori dies, Tobi gets his ring and becomes a full member of akatsuki.
Also I know Tobi, Deidara, Itachi, Hidan, Kakuzu, Pein, Konan, Zetsu, Orochimaru, Sasori and Kisame. Are there any others?
