*Ending his bank he started weaving, taking tight corners around teh clouds. A couple times teh wind desided to blow im to teh side, but pressed on, not letting a littl thing such as wind dampen his spirits.*

*Poor Stream Line was blown this way and that as he weaved through teh clouds. Breaking through he headed head first toward the finish line, not looking to come in last, then again, who would?*

MinkoMinko looked up at the sky, mouth open in awe at the beauty of the clouds. The other dragons were already at the starting line. Woops, he had better hurry up! Flapping his purple wings, Minko shot upwards eagerly, then slowed down suddenly as he remembered to conserve his energy for the race. The start was short and straight. Now, if he got in front here, he'd be alright he hoped. If he didn't, there was plenty of track to catch up. Minko crouched down, waiting for the starting signal, just as he always did when he started a... oops. This was an air race. Minko quickly realised his mistake as he slid through the cloud, and flapped his brilliant purple wings to get back up at the starting line. With a sigh of relief, Minko prepared himself... wings flapping... for the race to start. Go!

Minko burst forwards with a surge of speed, flattening himself as he approached the first series of cloud. He started to fall behind, but quickly began a rhythmic weaving motion, turning his body steadily left and right, so he did not fall too far behind. As Minko's smooth green body zig-zagged through the clouds, he suddenly saw a bolt of summer lightening leap from one cloud to another.
Minko grinned, glad it wasn't... OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD! With a loud shriek, Minko sped forwards with a speed greater than a dragon was thought capable of, shrieking as his rear smoked from the lightening that had singed it. Fortunately he had not been hit directly, that would've caused him to fall out of the sky.
Oh well, at least he wasn't as far behind as he had been.

Minko slowed down as he approached a short straight, relieved that the pain in his rear was subsiding. Time to bank! Minko was good at banking, he had practiced. He was going quite well, his wings flapping joyfully as the happy Maunten sped up. The next part looked difficult, he would have to concentrate. The next series of clouds were coming up.

Here it was. Do or die. More like fly or crash, really. The second series of clouds loomed before the bright green dragon. Don't baulk, don't baulk, he told himself. Just get into the rhythmic weaving he had done before. he'd have to do tighter turns this time than last. Readying himself, Minko slowed a little and began to weave and zag between the clouds. He was slowed down by his tail flipping into the clouds, so he concentrated on weaving it as well. Suddenly a gust of cross wind pushed him to the side, and he began to spin. Disorientated, all Minko could do was hope that he spun around the clouds rather than into them. He managed to regain his senses and start the weaving again.

Minko burst through the final clouds, a little dizzy but still kicking. A nice, straight section to the finish. Nice and straight... so why was he going sideways? Minko flipped his tail around and used it as a rudder to steer himself towards the finish, obviously still quite disoriented from all the weaving and the spinning and the... oops. He was going backwards. Oh well, only one thing to do. Minko flipped himself around and flew backwards through the finish line.

Minko landed gracefully... upside down, but as gracefully as an upside down dragon moving backwards could. If he didn't win, at least he raced in style! That was a fun game, he wondered if they'd let him play again?

[link]It was a horrible idea, Ametatsu thought angrily, and one that he would never have put up with if it hadn't been for his ridiculously stubborn owner. He wasn't a competitive creature by nature, and all the bright flashing lights and decorations were making him feel ill. He flapped his wings sluggishly, hovering on the line, waiting for a signal.
There it was. The roar of "GO!"
He supposed he'd better go then.

To his surprise, Ametatsu got off to a fairely decent start, his fully-grown wings pushing him powerfully forward, and although he lacked technique and finesse through lack of practice, he could at least stand a chance. Maybe.
Or maybe not, as he completely missed the first turning and plummeted straight through the clouds: his mouth open, he inhaled a good bit of water vapour before coughing and choking it back out. The water drummed on his scales and he exited in complete confusion, half-blind and very disorientated.

Somehow, he'd made it through. The brown dragon wasn't sure quite how he'd managed it, but that was unimportant. All he knew now was that he was on the straight and narrow stretch before -- oh no -- the next series of clouds.
Maybe this was what hell felt like, Ametatsu thought, frantically pumping his wings in an effort to keep him airbourne through the gusting winds. A bright flash caught his eye -- was that lightning?!? No-one had said anything about this race being possibly fatal! If got out of this alive, there would be hell to pay, he swore, clamping his wings grimly into his body as he spiralled forward in a dive. The anger gave him fresh heart and he eargerly rose up to the challenge of tackling the next part of the course.

Unfortunately for Ametatsu, this was even worse than the first set of clouds. He was blinded, his wings felt like they were coming off, and to make it all worse, he was soaked through. Closing his eyes, he tried to make himself as small as possible, using his wings to swerve him haphazardly through the clouds, but to little avail.
The distraught Maunten was no longer aware of any dragons around him -- he was probably at the back. He chanced cracking open one eyelid, and skidded sideways just in time to miss another large cloud.
It can only get better from here, he thought firmly, convinced nothing could be worse than this. Safe and spurred on by that knowledge, he weaved his way through a few more turns as his confidence grew.

Encouraged by his new-found determination, he leapt forward into the next turn before realising that he was once again on the straight.
The finish line! Ametatsu had never been so glad to see anything before in his life. It sounded pathetic, he knew, to view one small stripe as the thing that saved his life, but at that moment, he could honestly say that that was how he felt.
He bounded towards it gleefully. How cared who won? He was alive.
