Mati waited until he couldn't see Mikondo's blue-striped back in the swaying grass, then grinned. With a bright yip he pounced on the lioness and licked her face once with a rough pink tongue. "Yes! It was wonderful. He didn't even know I was here!" He fell back into the soft blades and gazed up at the sky; even now it was begining to fade into darker shades. Like Leboya's coat...

"An' what's even better," Mati crowed, "is that he promised not to tell Momma I ran off." So he'd gotten off this time. The grey pup hadn't missed his guardian's emphasis, but he wasn't worried. Eventually Mikondo would be lax again, and Mati could wait. But he needed to explore his lands if he was expected to defend them!

"Thank you, ma'am." He felt guilty making her lie. She was lying... right? He frowned slightly. "You aren't really blind, are you?"

How terrifying it would be, to stumble through the world without sight. And the colors! The pup watched the sun staining the sky with vivid crimson and purple, saddened at the thought of a sightless life. "I've never met anyone blind before. I think it would be sad."

Miremba would be missing him soon, though. But he could stay a little longer...

The lioness shook her head quickly when he inquired about the state of her ability to see. "Nope, I don't even have vision problems at that~" she beamed, laughing a bit, and nudging the pup gently with her nose.

"But I'm sure he was able to assume just as much from my mannerisms." she added, vouching for the gaurdians intelligence, as oppossed to suggesting that all caretakers were oblivious. Which, in this case, was certainally not the point in target, but rather, quite otherwise.

Leboya nodded a bit, frowning at the thought of being unable to see, her ears flattening back against her head as it mulled about in the depths of her thoughts.

"I've never met someone who was physcially blind... but I will tell you something, little one... there is a different kind of blindness, it's the kind that is used to mask your sight from the visions of others whom are different, whether it be species, or status of well being..

it's called ignorance. Don't forget that." she advised, nodding. "It will serve you well in the future."

"Ignorance..." Mati nodded sagely. "I'll remember, an' try not to get it." His mouth gaped in a grin, tiny tongue lolling. The grey pup wasn't sure how you 'masked your sight' from seeing what others saw, but he could understand how it would be bad. Maybe it was like fighting with his siblings! Keilantra sees it one way, he sees it another...

"I'm glad you're not blind, anyways." The sun was sinking fast, but the sky was painted such vivid colors! Everything was red and gold and purple and blue... Mati couldn't look away. He wished his sisters were here; in the forest, the trees normally blocked the view, but out here in the hunting grounds it was great. "If you were blind, I'd hafta remember this sunset by myself." At least he had Leboya to share it with.

For a moment he was silent. Leboya said she didn't have any family and it made him sad. She had all her special times alone; dawn and sunset, full moons... no one to share it with. It was worse than being blind. But wait!

"Leboya..." The pup's voice was slow as he contemplated his words, but his eyes were bright and his tail was wagging. "Can I be your little brother? It doesn't have to be forever, just until you make your own! That way, you can have family, and you won't have to say you're all alone!" Mati's ears pricked. "I promise I'll think of you all the time, so even when you are alone, it won't really be true! And you can visit anytime, I'll tell Momma!"

He waited, tail thumping eagerly. "I'll even protect you like my family!" It was great! Now maybe she wouldn't seem so... sad, deep inside.

The colors that danced acrossed the sky were enchanting, dragging in Leboya's focus quickly, as she laughed internally. These colors.... were like the ones on her coat, only.. well.. there was more orange to their hues, then the pinks and blues in her own. Ah well.

She looked towards Mati as he pipped up his offer/inquiry, before chuckling a bit, but nuzzling the top of the pup's head, nodding at his offer. "Sure. You can be my little brother. I'd like that, actually." she decided, nodding. "Alright then, you're now official little brother, Mati." she cooed, using her front paws to push herself back up into a sitting position.

She again laughed at his offer to protect her, shaking her head and rubbing her nose against the pup's head affectionately, a purr rumbling through her.

"No. I'll protect you instead...." she said, before rising up.

"It's getting late, little one..." she then whispered, nudging him along with a paw.

"Best you get back home before they send out a search party for you.."

It was indeed getting dark, and the land was cooling now that the sun had begun its decent. Already the vivid colors were fading slowly into the deeper shades of night, and in the east the first stars could be seen against a navy backdrop. Mati beamed up at his 'sister'.

"Well, you can protect me now, but when I get older an' stronger, I can help you!" He grinned and sat up, craning his neck so that he could see her face. Leboya's coat seemed to fade into the growing night, making her difficult to focus on. "And when you have puppies, they'll need watchin'." He grinned. "I know, 'cuz I'm one." The pup laughed.

At Leboya's nudge his good mood faded and he sighed. "It is getting late. The moon will rise soon, and Momma will be worried." She'd told him that's when the hunters get little puppies, and they're never seen again. "I should go find Mikondo."

But still he hesitated. Mati had never met someone quite like Leboya, and he liked her. She was like Momma, but she was fun! And he had a sinking feeling he wouldn't see her again for a long time. "We'll see each other again!" He declared, grinning. "I know it. Even if it's a long time away." He rubbed against the lioness' soft coat. "I won't forget. Promise!"

With a huff the grey pup got to his feet and made his way clumsily down the rocky hillside. He looked back once, then continued forwards, a slow grin spreading across his maw. What a perfect day!

Bowing her head a bit, Leboya rose up, a content purr rumbling through her chest as she lept down from her rocky-perch, stepping through the grass carefully, then looking up to watch the pup's retreating back, smiling.

".... There's much more new life in this place." she decided, nodding, then turning back towards her destination, walking slowly at her own pace.

A new little brother, and a good glimpse of hope for the future.

Definately the best day she'd had in a while.
