[Why a leaf, of all things?]
"Suki! Suki, darling, where ARE you?" Koyuki called out, her voice laced with more irritation at every time she called for the winged-cat's name. Trundling through the large mansion was not what she considered as rest.
She halted, and yelled out, "Suki, get back here so I can FEED you and get back to my work!!" Glaring about the garden in the middle of the open-air building she called home, the young woman looked like Godzilla's granddaughter.
Or something to that effect.
The reeds near the pond finally rustled, and a faint mewing could be heard.
"Got you," the 17-year-old muttered, and immediately wallowed over to the pond, carrying the weight of two babies along with her. She reached into the reeds and dragged out the flailing Suki out.
The young cat [or kitten, more accurately] hissed at Koyuki and the young woman let her down. Suki promptly made a dash towards the kitchen.
"... I did say I was going to feed you," Koyuki huffed angrily, scowling at the retreating figure, "I didn't waste all that time and breathe just so you can dart off into the kitchen like that."
Koyuki glanced down at the ground and adjusted some reeds to make them look like Suki hadn't disturbed them. Then a bright flash of green caught her eye.
"... Stupid cat. Bringing in all the extra junk," she picked up the leaf and prepared to throw it into the pond for decoration. No doubt the cat will later leap into the pond and attempt to her toy back, but she deserved it.
But the leaf shook.
"..." Koyuki stopped in mid-action, and stared at the leaf, "You don't look weird, really. And in all of my researching life, I've never met a leaf that sha--"
The leaf hummed slightly and radiated an emotion of slight distress at Koyuki.
She stared at the leaf for a few brief moments more, and shrugged, walking into the house with the leaf, "Okay, if you don't want to be drenched, I suppose I shouldn't let you get drenched."
She didn't seem bothered that a leaf just commanded her to do something. It's not something a normal leaf does, right?

Koyuki's Journal Disk #1, Entry 1 June 01, 2005
I've learned from my little drabbles about my upcoming baby that I'm terrible at writing in a notebook. For notes, yes. For research, yes. But to keep my thoughts?
Writer's block loves me.
I've set aside a disk for me to type up my thoughts instead. Hopefully, I won't leave it lying around.
Today was interesting, considering that I've been cooped up inside this damn mansion for the last few weeks. [So what if I could endanger my baby's life if I wandered about outside carelessly? I know it's bad, but this is extreme. Stupid Chai/Cere/Eva/Everyone else who lectures me.] Suki and I had a tiny tussle, since she kept hiding from me, and I was going to throw out this shiny green leaf that was Suki's latest toy when I felt it shake.
How in the world does a leaf SHAKE? It's not alive, at least. It's cut from the tree, dammit.
Then it gave me an.. an... emotion of distress? So I didn't throw it away. Was I lied to all these years? Can leaves actually, er, sprout life of their own, rather than stay there and decompose?
I'm going to study this thing. Oh yes I am. I'm naming this leaf Dante. Because I'd hate to refer to it as just... 'it'. Dante will be female, and she will be my subject of study.
Suki is already trying to steal her away from me. Going to go put Dante somewhere safer.

[I'm not a normal leaf~]
Dante shaked lightly, content in the sun that she was settled in. Too bad Koyuki didn't realize she needed water too. How else was she supposed to stay glorified and shiny, like the pretty leaf she is?
There's the woman! Dante sent out a ray of emotion to the one who rescued her from that "cat", as she called that creature thing..
"Aren't you lively?" Koyuki walked over and shifted Dante again, high on the shelves where Suki couldn't find her.
At least, right now.
Dante hummed happily at her guardian, laced with some discomfort. This lack of water was really getting to her.
"Hmm... you seem... happy?" The young scientist didn't understand.
Oh well. She'll live, right? Unless that cat comes again...
She wriggled, moving only the slightest nano-millimeter, and grouched at her sad fate of not being able to move. At least her guardian was good at rescuing her...
Koyuki was off somewhere singing the Yellow Submarine song.
Damnit.

The young shopkeeper stared at the address and nodded to herself. She put an orange flowerpot combined with a letter in front of the door and just hoped she had found the right house. Her children, who had followed the cat, had at least mentioned this one.
A letter from Lena Dear Koyuki, Perhaps you don't know about me, but your cat actually stole on of our leaves. It's a very special one and I hope you take good care of it, because it contains the soul of a child.
Well, our organization is called Eden Project...please feel free to visit us. I'll try to explain everything far more detailed then.
These leaves need special care and so I give you this special flowerpot. Please remember to water the leaf regularly if you decide to keep it.

[Suki, you little thief.]
Koyuki was on her way out to get the newspaper -- one of the few things that she was allowed to do that let her stepped even a centimeter out the door -- when she nearly tripped over a bright orange container sitting innocently at her home's front doorsteps.
"... Did Chai order something again?" she groaned, after a few moments rest leaning against the large, Oriental-decorated doors to calm herself. After months of torture, she was not about to miscarry a baby. About to throw another moody tantrum at people who left things at the front door, she noticed the letter next to the orange flowerpot.
"... Okay, so it's not Chai," she mumbled after reading the letter through. Eden Project? She'd been there once, to meet Cere, but she didn't connect 'Dante' with them.
"So this pot is for Dante?" she mused, turning around to go back in and follow the instructions of the letter, leaving the newspaper forlorn and forgotten. She stopped after various turns in the giant maze she called home and stared at the leaf.
Promptly, within the next 20 minutes, Koyuki did exactly what the letter said with ease, having worked with plants many times in her life. Soon, Dante was sticking out of the bright orange pot instead of lying on the shelf.
"... Really, you look weird," Koyuki remarked to the leaf while wiping her hands, "I've never planted a leaf. Why would you plant a leaf anyway? It doesn't make sense. Leafs don't have roots, period. Unless you are--" She cut off her own rambling, remembering that she has to water Dante as well.
Dante hummed with glee. FINALLY, she was getting the water she needed and wanted. Somebody gave her guardian a clue on what she needed to be pretty and shiny and good-lookin' and green.
Oh yes.
"Anyway," the young lady was done sprinkling the right amount of water onto the leaf, "you sit here and bask in the sun. I have something to deal with."
With that, she set off to search for Suki. That idiotic cat, STEALING from somewhere. Stupid, silly, disgusting habit. She'll remedy that, yes she will.

[Mommy, I'm special!] RP at the Eden HQ - Artemis/Dante/Bird/Raven/Ting/Teagan/MouseArtemis strolled up to the door of Eden HQ, and glanced at the address that was on the piece of paper that he was holding.
Yes, this should be the right place.
He mentally groaned, wishing his guardian didn't know him so well that she could tell when he was lying. Otherwise, he'd turn right around with that flowerpot holding the leaf that Koyuki named 'Dante'.
Who in their right minds names their leaf, anyway?
So, now, on the whim of an imperious, moody and pregnant woman, he was in full-mode [thus 6'2" instead of the normal 2' that he stood] and carrying and damn orange pot.
...
Damnit.
Blue eyes brightened insanely at the mentioning of the park. "Park?" she squealed, leaping to her feet and tugging on Bird's pantleg. "Pweeease?"
Bird couldn't stop the chuckle that bubbled from her throat. "Maybe later, okay?" she patted the disappointed Eden on the head, and Raven sank to the ground, pouting.
"Best not mention that around her-- she goes crazy when you do. I think it's the butterflies."
Raven's head perked again as the door opened. She shifted, momentarily placing the kite down to keep it out of harm's way, and took a few small steps toward the entrance.
"Well, at least we can mark that down as a possiblity, eh?" Mouse said, sharing the chuckle. She became further intrigued by Raven, Alex, and the other Edens that were out there- they were very human, but yet, they were also somewhat like the animals whose traits they adorned. It was a given that she would have a lot of trouble sleeping tonight, what with the thoughts that would purge her brain for the rest of the day and beyond.
Noticing that Raven was approaching the door, Mouse mentally prepared herself to greet the newcomer.
Tentatively, Artemis peeked in, his long silvery hair spilled down his shoulders and nearly into the pot he carried. Quickly, he moved the pot out of the way, and the bright orange thing flashed around.
Dante sent a rumbling complaint to the young teen. He wasn't careful like Koyuki was. Even if he wasn't Suki, who kepted on trying to harass her.
"... Erm. Mother sent me here with this lea--" Dante shook again in complaint, "-- Dante, because our cat stole her from Eden HQ and now she wants me to find out everything about how to take care of them."
He blinked, "... so, can anyone help me?" He stared around the HQ, seeing a child and another woman and various other people.
Maybe straightforward asking made him seemed stupid.
Bird grinned and nodded at the other, turning her attention to Raven and, thus, the door.
"Oh.. hello," she stood again, offering a small smile in greeting. "My name's Bird, this is Raven, and Miss Mouse. And... you say this is Dante?"
Raven, beyond curious with the stranger's hair, took a few more step closer. Wow, this guy's was weirder than Sho's! It was.. it was shiney!
Bird noticed the toddler's curiosity bubbling again, and quickly moved to collect her before she got herself into another predicament. "Is there... anything in particular you'd like to know?"
"Non sfida!" Came the shrill scream of the hyper canine as she raced after Teagan, trying fruitlessly to deter him from his path. Damn, he wouldn't really do it, would he?
CRASH! Of course he would. Teagan let himself unroll on the ground, surrounded by shards of broken glass. Ha, you'd think this would get old, but it didn't, it was still as fun as ever. He blocked out Ting's screaming, she'd get used to it, eventually.
Mouse was again struck with another somewhat shocking discovery. She looked at the leaf, then at Raven, and then back at the leaf, and stopped at Bird. "Waitwaitwait- do all Edens... come from little leaves? Or is it just that one because it's a plant-type of Eden?" she asked, puzzled beyond belief.
He walked in, with a small sigh of relief, "Hi, Ms. Bird, Ms. Mouse," He offered a small bow and a smile, "I'm Artemis."
It was unusual for him to be polite, but then, he wasn't exactly a social butterfly and never really went out after his 'birth', and was quite the snarky thing towards Koyuki.
"I honestly have no clue what Mother wants," He sighed, his wings fanning slowly behind him in pure agitation, "She just sent me out with, this... er.. flowerpot and told me to find out about why these leaves are special. She seems to think planting a leaf is ridiculous."
He felt awkward, having never said so many words in one breath, and was happy that the young child, Raven, offered a slight distraction. He smiled at her as well.
Bird snickered a little into her hand, remembering when Raven was a planted leaf. "Ah, yes. I s'pose it is rather strange to pot a leaf, but, it helps the growth process, apparently. Eventually the leaf'll turn into a child."
She blinked at Mouse. "Well... yes. They do all come from leaves-- at least, from what I've seen. I think that's why Lena called it the Eden Project. Not too positive on that, however." She rubbed her head sheepishly.
Raven gave a small wave at the other, beaming. Her attention was snagged by the loud noise that sounded off like a gunshot. She clutched Bird's arm like a lifeline, stunned.
Out of pure reflex, Artemis completely ignored the bang behind him. At home, his mother always fiddled with random chemicals, sometimes blowin up a room or two.
At least they had a mansion.
"A child?" He stared at Dante, peevishly. This irritating little leaf that kept sending him emotions was supposed to turn into a child? How much more irritating could him... her... it get?!
"... So, basically, this thing... uhm, poofs into a child?" the words sounded weird, but he couldn't find any better substitutes.
"Whoa- what was that?" Mouse asked. The noise shocked her considerably, as well.
Bird nodded, shifting Raven in her arms to better hold the weight. "Yes. Dante'll have the soul of a plant or animal, and will take on attributes from it. For example," she held out the Eden in her arms, who was blinking curiously from all the odd treatment. "Raven has the soul of a blue jay, hence the feathers."
She leaned on one foot, trying to see what broke the glass again. "Ah.. that'll be Teagan."
Ting burst through the door, waving her arms in the air as she stomped toward Teagan, ignoring the others in her anger. "Che cosa il hell voi pensa state facendo?! Potreste rompere il vostro collo! Siete che ascoltate me?!" She screamed, her face flushed in a mix of frustration and embarassment.
Teagan looked frightened for a moment, then quickly lost interest, looking around the project house, waving to Raven as he mimiced the woman, "Blah blah blah"
Raven waved energetically back to Teagan, smiling cheerily. "Tean!" she cried, wriggling out of Bird's grasp and making her way over.
"Probably," Bird confirmed, watching Raven head off with amusement. "Lena discovered the first child, so... she knows what she's talking about."
Teagan got to his feet and ran to meet her halfway, no need to make her step on glass. Besides, the puppy would clean it up. "Raven!" he squealed, flicking his tail happily.
"Ungradfeh!" Ting yelled, walking toward the kitchen to fetch the dust pan.
Raven enveloped her friend in an attempted hug, still not quite able to reach all the way around. "Hullo!" she greeted brightly. Blinking curiously at the retreating figure that seemed to have accompanied Teagan, she gave him a quizzical glance. "Whoz'at?"
"Miss Ting" He answered, dropping into a sit suddenly, "She's silly. How're you?"
Just what he needed, another child in the family. As if all the kids that Chai, Cerena, and Koyuki herself brought in lately weren't enough.
Speaking of the devil, his earpiece decided to ring out in a sharp, crisp tone. He nodded an apology and clicked the button, speaking tartly into the mouthpiece, "Yes, Mother?"
"Are you done yet? Get back home soon, Selene can't handle the new virus by herself, she needs your help."
While he was worried for his sister, he growled back, "Well, I just found out that Dante will be a child. Is that enough for you?"
The other voice took in a sharp breath, "Connect, Artemis," Koyuki -- for it was her on the other line -- commanded.
Sighing, he pulled out the small laptop he and his sister always carried, and typed in a code. Moments afterwards, a rather large hologram projected out, taking up a good amount of space on one of the HQ's walls.
"Well, hi," Koyuki blinked owlishly, and smiled, sitting at her desk and staring at the HQ from her home. She addressed her words to everyone there.
"Ting," she tried it on her tongue, expirimental. "... I like it," she nodded, flopping down on the floor to join him.
"M'good," she said. "Awwex an' me are doing a play... Oh! I got 'dis kite, an', an' it's a flutterboo!" she jumped up to fetch it, excited.
Bird waited off to the side politely during the conversation. She offered a small smile and a wave to the person who appeared on the screen. "Hello," she greeted.
So energetic and fun! He nodded, turning his attention to the hologram with a wide eyed gaze. "Whoooaaa" he chimed, flicking his ears curiously.
After arriving at the specified destination and collecting the object of interest, Raven didn't notice the large image on the wall until she scuttled back over to Teagan and followed his line of sight.
Wow. Not only was this shiney-haired person cool, he could use magic. Raven was silenced by childish awe.
"Whoa, indeed!" Koyuki grinned brightly and waved at Bird, as well as at Teagan, "So, I'm assuming from the facts before my eyes that Dante will become a child, just like those two?" She gestured at Raven and Teagan.
"... Didn't you say Selene was in trouble?" Artemis glowered at his mother. She was only 17, yes, and he wasn't her biological child, but she always made him feel stupid. With all her words of technology.
"Oh yes. I did. But, Dante..." she sighed and pouted, "Well, at least... I'll introduce myself! I'm Dr. Koyuki Shirogane, but just call me Koyuki. Thank you for helping Artemis and me out! We really didn't know what to make of the leaf." She waved a hand, "I'll visit the HQ myself, when I'm, erm, depregnantized and Chai lets me out of the house!"
Artemis grumbled, tapping his feet, wanting to get back before Selene gets in serious trouble.
Teagan stared at the hologram, nearly forgetting to blink. "Mooooving" he whispered, too amazed to form an actual sentence.
"A pleasure to meet you. My name is Bird, and those two over there are Raven and Teagan. Dante should turn out to be somewhat like them, depending on the soul." She gave them a smile.
Which quickly turned into a worried frown. "I'm sorry... Is there something the matter? Please don't let me keep you."
"Well, hello then, Teagan and Raven! I hope to meet you two sometime, yes? I hope Dante is going to be as wonderful as you two are!" She chirped, before being cut off with a scream.
"Oh dear," she vanished out of the hologram towards the back, calling out Selene's name.
Damnit, the idle chatter! Artemis growled, "Sorry, I must go." He decided within the span of 4 seconds that he should risk it and take the quick way home -- teleportation.
"Artemis, come home now, Selene really can't handle it much longer. Leave a gift for the children, please," Koyuki's voice called out again.
Artemis merely nodded and materialized a bobbing butterfly clip and a shiny metal skeleton thing that resembled between the cross of a dinosaur and a dog. Odd. He handed them to Raven and Teagan, before whirling off in a blink with Dante.
The skeleton decided that running around Teagan would be the best thing to do.

Koyuki's Journal Disk #1, Entry 2 June 06, 2005
Hum, nothing much really, now. Besides knowing little Dante is intelligent and will grow into a child, I've learned nothing else about her. I think she's a her anyway. I'll refer to her as girl, for now, at least.
Artemis went to the Eden HQ for me, and I ended up talking to some people there via a hologram screen. It was rather fun, but when he came back, Artemis started yelling at me. Poor Dante, I think she got frightened.
So, yeah. Selene seems to like Dante, at least. She's taking care of watering her and occasionally checking the soil for me, now that I've been getting horrible back pains. Her brother's just her brother. An idiot from the heart.
Suki's also stopped trying to bite Dante, now that she's discovered the joys off irritating Art.
Good riddance.

Artemis' Journal June 06, 2005
God, does that woman irritate me. I know she's supposed to be my mother and all, but WHATEVER. Really, now she's commanding me and Selene to keep a log of what we feel about things around us, and told me that my first entry should be about, oh guess -- yes, Dante.
It's just a leaf. HOW DOES A LEAF TURN INTO A CHILD?
The moody woman, I mean, my mom -- Koyuki -- decided to make me go to the Eden HQ with that bright orange pot of soil and leaf. I had to be all polite too. Everyone on the streets were probably staring at me. Oh, great.
Selene seems pretty into this though. Women... girls. Whatever. They're all the same. Weird. At least Selene isn't mean to me like mother.
---
Selene's Journal June 06, 2005 Mom gave us these really pretty, and small books for us to write our thoughts in. Art doesn't seem very happy about it, and started scribbling furiously when mom told us [okay, made us, but she's pregnant, I can't blame her moodiness] to write something and won't go away until we do.
Or at least, Art does. I like this sort of thing. And I think Dante is absolutely cute, even if she's a leaf. I do admit that having a leaf turn into a child sounds quite... absurd. When it happens, I'm sure it'll make sense.
Plus, I think my brother really wants Dante to be a girl instead. Something about too many females in this household.
Not really, I don't think. Chai, Cere, mom, Dante [?], Lethe, me... Okay, so maybe yes. Circe is male though! Why can't he just dwell on what he has, anyway?
Mom's calling again. I'll write some more later!

Koyuki's Journal Disk #1, Entry 3 June 07, 2005
It's odd. I'm sort of worried, but I don't know if I should be. Dante seems to be like a normal leaf in respect; she loves water, soil, and such. In fact, she enjoys her water a little too much sometimes. It's kind of funny how she literally drinks it all up. I suppose that's normal, though.
What worries me slightly is her dislike for sun. Or rather, not dislike. She enjoys sunning occasionally, but mostly prefers to stay in half-shady areas. [As she has insisted upon us numerous times by vibrating at us.]
Is that normal? She looks green and healthy. Maybe she just doesn't enjoy sunning as much...? Selene is looking up on leaves right now. But I think she got sidetracked again by the pretty pictures.

[Just family.]
"Don' wunna," Artemis groaned groggily. He had been up late last night, and a 11-AM-wake-up-call was not something he appreciated.
"Yes, you will," Koyuki insisted to her teenage boy. Lately, she's been VERY insistent on everything. Every single one of her whims must be fulfilled. Do this, do that.
Selene sighed patiently, "Really, mom, I think Artemis wouldn't be good for the job anyway."
Artemis immediately nodded enthusiastically at his sister's words. Why of course, he'd be TERRIBLE at taking care of Dante.
"No, he'll be good at it, and he'll make sure to be, RIGHT, Art-dear?" Koyuki was indeed feeling stubborn, refusing to relent. She wanted the boy to watch the leaf while Selene and her went out to go shopping.
"But I don't WANT to," Artemis insisted again.
"Artemi---"
"Mom, I'll watch Dante. Can I please? I think it'll be fun!"
After much arguing, complaining, and whining on Artemis' part, the young mother-to-be finally relented.
Somewhat.
She forced him to go shopping with her instead.
"...Bye," He grumbled to his sister, slouching after his mother, "Hurt that leaf for me."
Selene merely rolled her eyes and headed back in. Two hours later, she was enjoying herself very much.
In fact, too much.
In the span of 120 minutes, the young machina girl had read to the leaf, sang to the leaf, danced with the leaf, watered the leaf, talked to the leaf, watched TV with the leaf, hummed to the leaf, petted the leaf, and the list goes on.
Dante was by then, enjoying herself far too much as well. She hummed in a low note, showing her content to Selene. She was FAR better and nicer than that Artemis. Who nearly tipped her over. Hmph.
In the afternoon, Koyuki returned with a postively dead looking Artemis carrying several bags. When they peeked into Selene's room, she was asleep on the desk next to the pot that held Dante.
"She's much nicer to Dante than you."
"I don't care."
Some people never change.

After the leaf had been treated so nicely it had started to glow faintly the day afterwards. Sometimes it even makes movements as it would shiver or sniff something. And as you look at it this time it's slowly starting to get furry ! What's going on...?

[... Do leaves grow fur?]
"... Mom," Artemis pointed at Dante, using 'mom' instead of 'mother' for once [which is how Koyuki knew that he either wanted something, or just got hit in the head, or something of the affect], "Do... leaves grow fur?"
Koyuki wasn't paying attention, but typing up a new script for a new section to the virtual world that she had to manage.
His sister, however, caught what he said and walked over, "Fur? Where? Is the venus fly-trap acting up again...?"
The adolescent boy scowled, and shaked his head, "No. Vinny either sleeps or eats bugs nowadays. She doesn't do much besides that now. But... that leaf," he gestured at Dante once again, and while he did, the leaf quivered slightly.
Selene's eyes widened and she prodded Dante, who had grown slightly, er, furry. Probably the best word. Not the fuzzies-on-the-leaf kind either. Just... the animal kind of furry.
"MOOOOOM!!"
"WHAT, you two?!" the easily irritable woman swiveled around in her chair. She was taking full advantage of the large leather seat by draping herself over it.
"Dante's growing furry."
The young scientist's right eyebrow went up, and with a defeated sigh, she pushed herself from the chair and strolled over to peer at Dante.
"Hm. Dante is... sort of... furry."
She prodded the leaf in the exact same fashion that Selene had. This time, however, the leaf stretched a tiny bit to the offending finger and moved as if it was sniffing it. Like a dog. Or something.
"...er."
"Are you sure it's not possessed or something?" by now, Artemis had seen enough. This leaf was creeeeepy. He backed away, dragging his 'mother' and sister with him. What is it going to do now?

[Whee! She's GLOWING!]
"Look, she's turning colors!" Koyuki brightened up. Now THIS was interesting! She grinned and pointed at the leaf.
Selene merely smiled.
Artemis, on the other hand, thought that his family was way too weird to think this was perfectly normal. What in the world did they eat for breakfast?!
"Leaves. are. not. supposed. to. turn. various. colors," he hissed at them, saying each word clearly so that they could possibly, maybe, with a slight miracle, understand what he was saying.
"Which makes Dante awesome, unique, and SPECIAL!" Koyuki's response disappointed him.
"What do you MEAN, she's special?! She's gonna eat us up or something!"
"Don't be silly, Art. She doesn't have a mouth," Selene muttered at her overreactive brother.
"Shush, you two! She's gloooooowing!"
The scientist was intrigued.

And as everyone is silent the leaf starts an abnormal flashshow. The colour change becomes faster and Dante now almost looks like a discolight. Just as the speed increases the brightness increases as well. Quickly it's impossible to look at the leaf.
Just as the light reaches it highest point it vanishes and releases a white fluffy ball which wiggles. The wiggling stops and out of sudden the fluffy egg cracks up and dissolves, revealing a young toddler.
