We may never find out about the Question Mark, but it seems that the Quagmires are safe on it. It might be a vessel of the negitive end of the schism. I thought that it was used by the MWNHBB and the WWNBBH.

I was thinking that too. Since whoever was (is) in it scared off Olaf, MWNHBB and WWNBBH makes a degree of sense. There was also that comment of pg 165 of The End about the schism and the question mark shape...

Question: Was it ever said what vessel Fiona and the Hook Handed Man escaped on?
the two siblings escaped the Carmelita on the Queequeg to go find their beloved father,Capt.Widdershins....

It really suprised me how sad it was. I mean, I imagined that it would be rather sad, but the others were more sad and silly at the same time, but this one was more...somber, I think.
I loved what they did with Kit, but at one point she says that she has lost her siblings. Does that mean she imagined that Lemony was dead? Did all this happen before Lemony was born? I would love to know more about the Snicket siblings.
And what happened to the Quagmires? And V.F.D.? Okay, I undersand that Beatrice is the name of the the Baudelaire mother, but all those other questions were just ignored, making me wonder if the esteemed Mr. Snicket will continue his research and perhaps write more books...

@ Greengob25000: The third Beatrice was just probably me getting confused at some of the passages in ASOUE...let me go look at them again. Perhaps I am mistaken. (goes to look) Ok....the one I thought it was on p. 277 is just Bertrand talking about his wife. What page was that one you mentioned earlier on? When they're discussing the boat? I think the B threw me off there...but you're right that probably is referring to Bertrand.

@ Sherman_Fourmage: Thanks for the catch on the sub.

@Animeomega: I don't think she'd REALLY think he's dead, cause didn't they meet up in TPP off screen? I don't remember. I know they were both at the hotel then, cause of the comment LS made about taxis. Maybe I'm just assuming they met up there...maybe she was being morbid. She'd lose LS because she was dying. Or maybe that she had lost him already to his research...

Oh...That's deep thinking... Perhaps that's the case. I wish the Unauthorized Autobiography was more of a biography so we'd know more about him!

I think a lot of the questions are open to interpretation, but I'll try to answer as much as possible.

What was the cause of the schism?
I think the mutiny on the island was a re-enactement of the schizm. The leader of VFD (Whoever that is) probably wanted to set fires, whereas others wanted to put them out, or vice versa.

What is the important object inside the sugar bowl?
A cure for the Medusoid Mycelium. When Klaus is reading about the antidote under the apple tree, he is cut off saying "Beatrice has a small amount in the vess--". Another name for the sugar bowl was said to be the "Vessel For Disaccharides".

What happens to the Baudelaires when they leave the island?
Unfortunately, I believe they died. If you study the poster given to you with The Beatrice Letters, it shows this. On one side, there is a boat named Beatrice which has been torn apart by a storm. You can see that left behind on the boat is a pair of glasses, a ribbon and a whisk. I guess baby Beatrice somehow survived and went on to try and find Lemony Snicket (the letters the were sent to him).
Also, the french poem at the beginning of the fourteenth chapter translates to:

O Death, old captain, it is time! let's weigh anchor!
This land wearies us, O Death! Let us set sail!
Though the sea and the sky are black as ink,
Our hearts which you know well are filled with rays of light!

However, there is evidence against this, as a Beatrice 2 letters suggest the Sunny appears on a radio show disussing her culinary techniques.

... So like many thousands of people, I'm not sure. xd

@ Tim: Aha! Good catch there for the sugar bowl! We may be on to something, guys! ^_^ Technically the boat they left on was the same boat they arrived on, so the poster could have been depicting their shipwreck in the beginning of the book. Though I still wonder about that cave on the back...you know, I just looked at it again, and I think that's LS's hat sitting there next to the items! surprised

About the poster, I realized it had significance immediately after The End. The back has Beatrice written on it, so it must be after all the labels were ripped off, i. e. post-end. The baudelaire siblings must be alive after the wreck because of all of Beatrice Baudelaire Jr.'s reference to them, but my thinking is that they may have been seperated somehow. Lemony and Beatrice Jr. met at some point, as they corresponded, and maybe Lemony picked up/adopted beatrice after the wreck, seeing as his stuff's there?
I dunno.

I'm going to have to say that the Quagmire Triplets and Fiona are still alive, because no matter how sad Lemony has reported the story to be, no children have ever been killed in the plot.

A lot of those unanswered questions have likely answers, or a general idea, but a lot of the more important ones he intentionally left open so as to not really define the ending as a good or bad ending (IMO).

Yes, now that I think about it, they must've survived, but were seperated.

Also, if the sugar bowl did contain the apples, it would explain everyone's desire for it. Count Olaf could use the spore to threaten people without fear of being infected himself. It also explains why Olaf was so confident about being able to threaten the islanders with the spores without consequence.

Ah, thank you. Hrmmm...yeah I think it is Beatrice talking about her husband. Though the wording is a little bit vague. Ah well, sorry for the confusion guys! ^^;

The Beatrice that died, the one Snicket loved, was the mother. Kits daughter Beatrice, is the younger, second Beatrice. Just clearing that up, I guess.

* Who leads V.F.D., if anyone? A man named 'Charles'.

* What is the question mark shaped object in the water? TMWABBNH and the WWHBNB's submarine.

* Are the Quagmire Triplets, Captain Widdershins, Fiona, and Fernald still alive?
* What happens to the Baudelaires when they leave the island?
This is really depressing, and, well, all the evidence points to it. MASSIVE SPOILERS!
In the Beatrice Letters, the anagram says that 'Beatrice Sank'. But Beatrice Baudelaire died in a fire, so it wasn't her.

From the picture/poster, a ship called Beatrice is what sank, not Beatrice herself. We see it completely demolished along the beach...

The ship that the Baudelaires and Beatrice Snicket leave on in the end of the series is called 'Beatrice'.

The ship sank and the Baudelaires didn't make it. mad

Ahh! So the second Beatrice was searching for Violet, Sunny and Klaus, not Beatrice searching for her children. It's being cleared up now.

(So Beatrice Snicket tried to contact Lemony in the future...?)

Well, I'm still going with my above theory, that the ship sank, but with this piece of info it means everyone survived.
