I very much enjoyed Episode 1, but as I watched Ep.2, it started to feel a bit like "Dr Who meets Benny Hill", for some bizarre reason. Every show has to start somewhere, and I've seen some shows start more badly.

Jack's "Dark Knight/Dark Angel" posing better not become a habit...

But surely that's perfectly normal behaviour for exciting action hero type people like Jack. Anyway, how else is he supposed to make that coat flutter and billow properly? Those things are heavy, and it takes a good bit of wind to really get any kind of dramatic billowing from them. I speak from bitter experience.

quite right smigg

nothing is quite as embarassing to a action hero as a cape that doesn't billow properly.

Jack rocks me. I love the show, and i think i might rewatch the second one tonight before i go to sleep. At least the last bit with the whole jack goes supernova thing.

It was alright, but running storylines about murder and sex and throwing liberal swearwords into the mix (as well as trademark RTD references to homosexuality every five minutes rolleyes ) does not a good series make. Especially when the sets are so wobbly.

The X-Files worked because it was mature enough to realise people aren't going to be insulted if you don't give them sensationalism every week. Torchwood needs to grow up a bit. I found it especially irresponsible since you just know, despite the forewarnings, about a billion five year olds were watching it on launch night.

I did like the pavement lift though, and the glove idea. And Gwen's pretty hot for someone who lives in Wales.

Yatosh or whatever his name just has to be a robot, as well. The guy worries me.

Oh, and I'm back in the building by the way. Fear my wrath mad

Here is a post I posted in another forum Monday morning.

Quote:
I agree with the first episode it was a bit Meh - but it was the same with the first episode of Doctor who when it came back in 2005 - it was introducing the fans into the universe through the eyes of a character...

Over all I got this from the series so far:

- Gay jokes are always funny.
- BBC Wales is being funded by Cardiff tourist Board.
- Aliens are more fun when they can cause things to explode into pools of blood and/or involve sex in some way.

----SPOILERS HERE ON OUT----

I think it is interesting that we are seeing the consequences of Roses actions at the end of season 1 with Jack not being able to die...It was something strange and unexpected...and I like that they have not revealed anything about HOW jack got back and I loved the Doctor's hand in the Jar (the one which was cut off at the end of the christmas invation)...

Truly...the whole Jack being immortal thing threw me for a loop mentally. I figured the big secret they said Jack had in the promo stuff was something about an incoming invasion or something.

But that....that was totally unexpected. I enjoyed it.

One thing that I was also a little confused by in the first episodes was Torchwood's actual role in the world. They spent a lot of time telling us they were above such and such an organisation and secret this and conspiracy that but apparently the army and the police know them at least in some capacity (the former even acknowledged the name of the organisation, though I doubt they really know anything about it). So they've dealt with them before, but then Jack starts going on about how they're independent and don't get involved in official business because, to be blunt, it's not their problem. So why set themselves up in this weird quasi-official capacity if they're not actually there to help? And why go to such lengths to hide themselves from Joe public when everyone and his mother in the social sector already knows who they are anyway? It's a little confused if you ask me <.< Especially if people keep dying on them and they have to replace them. They've probably been through half the population of Cardiff alone already by now.

Also, what was the point of telling Gwen to go home and have a life outside work when you're just going to frigging text her at three in the morning to some look at meteorites? Either you're allowed to have a life outside of work, or you're not. And if you're not shame on Jack for encouraging her to do something she probably won't be able to. And why in St.Swithins name did she have to kiss him??? Granted it was on the cheek, and granted he's a certifiable dreamboat but...she's in a nice, normal relationship dammit! And appparently this isn't grown-up Doctor Who >.>

At the moment I like it as a curiosity, but I'm dubious as to whether it has the legs to last more than a series or two. Will anyone *really* be interested once they reveal Jack's 'secret'?

Having regained my power of speech...

Not much I can say to add, people seem to have said everything about the episodes already. They are repeated tonight though, so I'm definately watching again.

And apparently they've already got people peering through the grills by the fountain in Cardiff. And yes, trying to get on top of certain buildings.

Oh my GOD I LOVED IT!

Seriously. LOVED it. Just... just... freakin' WOW.

The immortal thing was SPOILED for me before the show, even though I went on a website that promised to not put any really big spoilers on the front page. *sighs loudly*

But it was awesome! I love Jack even more. I didn't think that was possible. I still haven't seen the second one, though. S'not on youtube yet.

Well, saw both episodes last night... My views on the first one haven't changed. My views on the second one are "Now I see what they were going on about in DWM!" They mentioned a scene in the nightclub toilets that they wouldn't get away with on Doctor Who, and that it's a lot gorier. I had to look away at one point!! And as to the comment from Jettrick about why did Gwen have to kiss Jack, can you blame her?! It was a friendly kiss though...

Oh, and I counted 15 Dr Who references over the 2 episodes. There were 12 in the first one and 3 in the second. One of the references could be easily missed though... PM me if you want to know the references I spotted...

Not sure if you noticed, but she kisseed Jack because he saved her life.

He was the one that dropped that portable force feild thingy and trapped the critter when it was coming to invade her body.

I'd have done a lot more then kiss him if he'd saved my life.

Totally loved the scene with them all sitting around the table eating and dicussing the mystery that is Jack Harkness.

"He'll shag anything if its goregous enough." Ah yes, that is why I love Jack.

At least someone agrees with me for once

To quote The Independent's Thomas Sutcliffe on last night's TV;

"It was fun, if you like this kind of thing, but then I can't work out why you should if you're more than 16 years old. Surely now Russell T Davies can write something for the grown-ups again."

God bless the liberals and their endless stable of high horses :3

Okay, just watched the second one. The sex scene was meh. I'm sorry, but this is getting pathetic for me. It didn't even bother me. Am I really that desensitized? Seriously? Because I'm not even 15 yet. >>; And no, I wasn't all 'OMGSEX'. My response was meh. Now the fact that the guy had been watching it, well, I found funny. But the actual scene I could have done without. Anyways...

Jack's obsessed with the hand. I wonder why... and I'm sure we're going to find out. biggrin

I'm loving this show more and more and more. Jettrick, the bit about only under 16 year olds loving it I disagree with. It's not an immature show. I know it seems as if I really can't talk about this because I'm under 16 (you can tell me to shut up now and ignore this next bit if you feel that way), but I think you're wrong. The action in it is the kind of younger, fast paced stuff... but the themes are above the heads of many of my peers. And I say peers grudgingly. I'm stuck with a bunch of asses in my school. But that's besides the point. What I'm trying to say is that it's not a kid's show. And it's not because of the sex, gore, cussing, etc. Kids my age (at least in the US) get that stuff as soon as they enter school. And yes, I mean kindergarten. The actual themes are emotional ones, themes that are all about the characters. I think that's what appeals to me so much about DW and TW. It's about the characters, not just the plot. The actual characters are more mature. Definintley mature enough for adults, not just teens.

I think there will be only one series of Torchwood. Rumor has it that Jack is returning to Doctor Who. He should make an apperance around the last few episodes of the 3rd series. (I dont know this for sure. This is just a rumor. Please don't hit me.)
