But he could still clean your shell and talk to you! We can share for when Eve's not here! Marint protested, trying to make her see the oh-so perfect logic of the situation. He gave a loud mental squeal at the arrival of the cherished bonded, nearly tipping his egg over in his exuberance. ZIV!
After giving Tempest a polite bow, Ziv set his pack down on the edge of the sand and eased down beside the eggs. "Good morning," he said, nodding up at the adult wind wyrm. "Marint called," he added by way of explanation, extending a hand to rest it on Marint's shell.
Marint's happy croon seemed to echo through every corner of the humanoid's brain, making him crack a small smile.
Alinta rumbled with amusement, shoving the young human again with her nose. "Yes, she has been thinking about you. I think it is safe to say she misses you, but I doubt she'd admit it except under duress," she chuckle-rasped aloud, tossing her horned head. Ah, humans. They acted like their lives were so complicated. "Do you miss her?"

Talking is fine, but I don't need my shell cleaned. Tei didn't mind dirt. First thing she did when she hatched was going to be to roll around in this warm sand that lay just beyong her reach.
I figured something along those lines. Tempest nodded, stretching his wings and yawning.
"Yes." Delame replied, almost feeling dizzy. Ravea'd been thinking about him! Gods, he felt like a child, but still. "I miss her a lot."

B-b-but it has to be clean! Marint protested, quieting only when Ziv's chuckle penetrated his rapid thoughts of 'mustbecleanmustbecleanmustbeclean!' But...
"Not all of us dislike the dirt, Marint. Don't worry about your sister," Ziv said quietly, unable to contain his amusement. He reached out with his other hand, resting it on Tei's shell, mindful of the crack, and reaching tentatively for her with his mind. Now, where are you, Teialta?
Alinta crooned in her mate's direction, flashing a gentle look at him before returning her attention to his poor... insecure bonded. Oh dear. Delame really didn't have a clue about females, did he? "You could tell her?" the light female suggested casually.

Tei felt his mind searching for hers, and she opened up to let him find her. To her brother, she gave a mental shrug. It's clean enough for me. She was still partially puzzling about yesterday's events, but those thoughts were slipping away to make room for thoughts about the present.
Tempest backed a small way away from the two formed groups. He could go back to sleep with the way no one was talking to him, but he might as well just stay awake. He chose instead to peer over the wall Delame had over his mind, eavesdropping on Delame's thoughts. It wasn't much entertainment, but it beat boredom.
Delame considered what Alinta had said, mind running over possible scenarios. "But..." He said quietly, hands running nervously through the sand. He had no idea, but that sounded too simple...

Ziv smiled faintly. Hello there, sister of my bonded draconic companion. he said softly, aiming his thoughts at the unhatched female. Sensing Marint's distinct unease with the idea of dirt being welcome on a shell, he stroked the male's shell, trying to push to the back of his mind the image of a freshly-killed rabbit. No need to traumatize Marint with images of the lunch he had indulged in yesterday. The poor wyrmlet might have a complete coronary at the sight.
But...eeeeeeeeeeeeh.... Marint squeaked out ineffectually at his sister, huddling down in his shell. It was a dirty, dirty world out there. He didn't like dirty. Nuhhhh, not at ALL!
Alinta glanced over at her mate, rumbling softly. Come join us, Fluffbutt... she purred over their mental link, accompanying the summons with a naughtily delicious image. As much as she wanted to sneak off with him, she had a feeling that wouldn't be possible in the near future. That was one of the downsides of being a parent. Besides, Delame looked so adorably lost that she had to nudge him a little in the right direction.
Just a little, mind you.
"But what?" she asked aloud, resting her nose against the human male's shoulder. I could ask him to scratch behind my horns while I'm here... she mused to herself, wondering if he'd actually do it. That'd feel nice, but it'd likely also distract him from his current dilemma. Perhaps she had better wait until he sorted out his issues first.

Hello, Ziv. Tei replied. Talking with others wasn't that big of a challenge now, thank goodness. She hadn't liked it when her world consisted of her and Marint alone, the knowledge of others in their minds, but not being able to actually feel... What was it going to be like to leave this darkness behind? Her muscles reached out and touched her boundary. If mom and dad spoke the truth, someday that would be gone. She curled back up into a tiny ball. She wanted light.
Tempest slithered obediantly over to his bond and his mate, sending a small whine back to her. He mumbled quietly and unhappily. No alone time for them for a while, he supposed. At least not right now. He glanced down at Delame, listening still.
"What if she gets mad at me?"
Pansy.
What?!
"What if she gets mad at me?" Tempest scolded, If you're too afraid to do anything because of that, your personality has faded since we met. Time was you'd do anything for someone you cared about. Don't you remember?
...I do.
And aren't you the same Delame? There was a pause that baffled the wind wyrm to no end. Well?
No. Delame glanced up at Tempest, who just shook his head.
Yes, you are. Just a little bit more grown up and a little bit more afraid of getting hurt, that's all.

Hello, little Darklight. Ziv said respectfully to the other wyrm infant, gently reaching out a hand to touch her shell. Marint, having picked up on some of Tei's unhappiness, passed on to Ziv what Tei was thinking about. The ailuran smiled and pulled a memory from the depths of his mind, the feeling of sunshine warming his face as he stared up into a lovely sunset, and then he quietly passed that feeling along the mental link to Marint who, in turn, passed it to Tei. You are sad.
Alinta crooned at her mate again, reaching out to curl her tail around his. She loved her mate with all her heart, but solitude with him just wasn't plausible at the moment. Once Marint and Tei hatched, perhaps, there would be more time. But not for now.
"Why would she get mad at you for being honest?" the light wyrm inquired aloud, moving her head to rest it on Delame's leg. "I think she'd be happy to hear it." She thoughtfully neglected to mention the fact that Ravea had been awake for quite awhile at that moment, that the therian female was indulging in an early-morning bath.

I just want to be free. I want to feel the sand, see the sky. This all is just... so... boring. Her laments were whiny in tone and Tei wasn't showing any signs of stopping that by herself. You don't understand, lucky Ziv. A shelled chamber... Freedom was... so close...
"I don't know." He said quietly. Delame smiled at Alinta, sighing slightly. "In my defense, she does seem to get mad at me an awful lot." With that pointed out, he shifted his hands through the sand. Ravea... gods. She was a whole different world to him.

That is understandable. And I do understand. I was conscious in the womb. Ziv said quietly, stroking Tei's shell. The poor thing. She was feeling quite imprisoned and understandably so. It can't be much longer, little one. It will be soon.
But I don't want to be out in the dirt! Marint wailed, twitching around and rocking his egg back and forth. In his mad efforts to escape the inevitable, Marint knocked his egg over, smacking part of it on a rock. The resulting sound was a crack, and then the next thing audible was Marint's loud shrieks.
Alinta had to acknowledge that Delame had a valid point. "Yeah, she is a tad cantankerous most of the time. That's the animal in her." She nudged Delame gently. "I know she does care, though, even if she has trouble showing it."

Marint?! Tei screamed mentally at his shrieks. This wasn't just dirt. Something had happened. Was he okay? He was still screaming... Things began to grow quiet again, but she somehow stayed up. Marint had to be okay. If he was hurt... whatever had hurt him'd better watch out!
Tempest turned at the sound of yelling, his earwings stiffening as he noticed his son was no longer with Tei. "Marint?" He echoed his daughter in a calmer voice, slithering quickly over to the broken egg.
"I'll... talk to her today. If I can." He said quietly, flinching from a burst of panic in his head. Tempest? Tem? "Alinta." His hand rose, pointing at his bond and the egg which he stared at. "Marint." Oh no...

Marint's shrieks caused Ziv some alarm, as these demonstrated a note of true terror. What really got the attention, though, was the fact that he was hearing the shrieks with his ears as well as his mind. "Marint? What is it?!" he said urgently.
The shrieks came to an abrupt halt. The egg wobbled dangerously as Marint squirmed inside, and then it rolled away from the rock, leaving his audience to gape at the cracks running through his shell and the tiny, fingertip-sized hole.
Alinta was up on her feet instantly, trotting closer to see what Marint had gotten himself into. "Marint! Marint!" she cried desparately, looking over at Tempest and Ziv, at Tei, and then back at Marint's egg. "Marint?!"
The egg wobbled, and then a gold-rimmed nostril appeared just inside the hole, the edges flaring in and out. It's cooooooold on my noooooooose! Marint's whiny mental voice said, projecting out in his puzzled distress.

Tei, blind to the world still, was still calling out her brother's name in an almost steady chant. He was alive, and that was all she knew. Marintmarintmarintmarint it continued, her voice no longer whiny, but quick. Tyring to get an answer. When he responded to the cold, her chant came to a halt. You okay? She demanded, her dark world still unlit. Why did Eve have to be asleep, now?!
Tempest's eyes widened as something poked his nose out into the world. He was amazed yet again, a simple being. Though the certainty that Marint hadn't been hurt at all was still absent, he seemed to radiate joy softly. His son, his first hatchling... His and Alinta's. He was in awe.
Delame stayed back from the crowd, fighting through the familiar thoughts of his wyrm to see what he saw. He chuckled at Marint's thought, forgetting his own problems to share in Tempest's awe of the world. Just for this minute.

I fell, and then there was this weeeeeeeee itty bitty bit of light, and it's cold on my nooooooose! Marint outlined very brattily to his sibling, sniffing and snorting with one nostril pressed to this mysterious hole to the outside. Awww, it was cold out there! He didn't want to leave the nice shell, cramped as it was.
Alinta crooned softly, fairly prancing in place in eagerness. Tempest, he's hatching! He's /hatching!/ she thought straight to her mate, nuzzling him anxiously. She could barely contain her excitement, though she had to sigh at Marint's reticence. "Marint, it's all right. You can come out."
Ziv looked quietly thoughtful for a moment, and then he made one carefully worded statement. You know, Marint, you've been in there quite awhile. It's probably dirty in there...
There was dead silence for a moment, and then Marint shrieked both mentally and physically, falling silently again as he began rocking about frantically. The nostril pulled away from the hole and was replaced by the flat part of his forehead as he shoved desparately. Nowannabeinthedirt! OUTOUTOUT!
