As the human approached Dancer felt his muscles tighten. Flee! his instincts were screaming at him. Stay! came the more calm voice of reason. When the shaman spoke in their language he let out a whuff of surprise. What matter of human was this one? His nostrils flared at the scent of the treat. The sharp smell of herbs was mixed with the sweeter tang of honey and apple. It was clear that the mares had no reserve about being near this two-legger at least, for Wambli scarfed up the treat with obvious enjoyment. Without realizing it himself, Dancer took one step towards the calming aura of the human before him.
Wambli, while enjoying her treat, was not oblivious to the movement of the stallion beside her. She didn't react though. It was best that the shaman make the appropriate moves here! "Ayita," she said "tell him much thanks and he is welcome to look at my hip. I think it is but bruised though. I am not sure if he would understand me or I would tell him myself!"

Foalen listened closely to the winged soquili as she spoke trying to disern what she was saying. He thought he had managed to follow Wambli for the most part, even so he looked to Ayita for confermation. Proving he had understood at least a portion of what had been said.
"Wambli says thank you. Any aid you can give her will be most welcome. She has brused her hip." Ayita explained exagerating her speach as if speaking to a very young foal so she might be better understood.
The shaman gave the painted mare a blank look, a smile touching his lips. "Why do I have the feeling that flowers have nothing to do with this injury?"
Recognizing the human word Ayita shook her head and whinnied lightly. "He missunderstood. I beleive he thought that I said that you hurt your flower..." Shaking her head in a deffinate negitive Ayita bent her long neck motioning to her hip, lifting a hind leg for good mesure.
Foalen's mouth made a round O shape when he saw the gesture giving a slow nod to show his understanding. "It wouldn't be your hip that is bothering you would it?" He asked looking at face Wambli directly though he made no other movement. He was cognizent of Dancer's presence and could sense the kinfe edge the stallion seemed to be wavering upon.
Since stallion had not fled yet, Foalen reasoned that so long as he did not make any startling movements and treated him with do resepct that he would stay. At least for the moment. If he stayed there would be time to make friends with him later. The shaman's first priority was looking over Wambli's injury.

Wambli snorted a small laugh at the misunderstanding. "My flower? Oh dear!" She continued whickering as the shaman moved to her hip, drawing in a sharp breath when he touched the bruised area around the small cut.
Dancer continued to watch. He held back his own laughter at the misunderstanding that the shaman had made.

The shaman took his time looking over the Wambli's injury, not only because he wanted to make certain the full extent of the injury, but also because he could sense the stallion relaxing minutely as he worked. It wouldn't do to delay too long though and the wind soquili really was only bruised.
Glancing up at the wind mare Foalen gave her dark neck a pat. "I'm sure you've already realized, but thank the spirits it's just a bruise. I have some ointment here that should have you back to normal in no time at all."
Rummaging in his pouch once more he took out a small pot that smelled of strongly of mint. "Not only does this one smell good it has some numbing properties. So it will seem as if the bruise isn't as bad as it actually is. Do not be fooled however. You still need to take care. No rolling in the dust like a filly." Foalen admonished with a feather light touch on the mare's soft nose and a smile.
Opening the pot he carefully spread the contents over the bruise being sure to cover the whole area before stepping back to look at his handiwork. "That's done then. You should start feeling the effects of the ointment right away." The shaman advised his patient nodding to himself he cleaned his hands off using a bit of rag from his pouch. Then he ran the rag over the pot to make sure none of the ointment spilled over on the outside of the pot before settling both pot and rag back into his pouch.
That finished Foalen glanced up at the three soquili and made a welcoming gesture. "Its good to see you again my friends. Oh wait I nearly forgot something. This should taste even better than the first treat I gave you." He said to the ladies speaking in his slow somewhat stilted version of the soquili language. Reaching into his pouch once more he took out some small lumps that smelled strongly of honey and oats. He offered this up to Wambli and Ayita before turning to face Dancer directly for the first time. Leaning forward in a gesture of respect the shaman addressed the stallion in a calm quiet yet authoritative voice. "Bright day to you, sir. Please forgive me for not introducing myself earlier. But I it is my duty and privilege to tend to those who are in need. My name is Foalen, and I am pleased to meet you."

The dark mare sighed in relief as the salve numbed the soreness in her hip. She knew the cut and bruising wasn't serious, but it still hurt! Her eyes lit up when he reached back into his pouch and pulled out the oat ball. She quickly took the extra treat, snuffling him slightly as she did so.
When the shaman turned to Dancer, the stallion froze in place. Only his multi-colored mane moved in the soft breeze as Foalen moved towards him. After an eternity of a moment in which he felt as if his very being had been measured by the cool blue eyes of the human, the appaloosa relaxed minutely.
His nostrils flared at the scent of the oats and honey. He was familiar with them from his wild foraging, but had never had the two together. His curiosity warred with his fear, even as the mares enjoyed their treats.
"Try it, silly stallion!" Wambli said when she saw his hesitation. "Foalen is trustworthy, like we told you. Ayita was raised by him and she is perfectly fine!"
"Yes, she is," Dancer answered unthinkingly, "I mean... she seems to have come to no harm from being around the two leggers, just as you haven't." If it were possible for a black coat to blush, he would have! To distract them - and himself! - from his slip he slowly reached out towards the treat, finally snagging it when the shaman didn't move.

The painted mare lifted a brow at Dancer's comment though she didn't remark upon it at all. Instead she savored the treat she had taken from Foalen's palm realizing suddenly that she was glad of the stallion's good opinion of her. She didn't know the Dancer well. But from what she had seen of him she already respected and admired him. It warmed her inside to know that he approved of her.
When she had finished the dainty she smiled over at the stallion. "So what do you think of the treat?"
While Foalen heard his name mentioned he didn't react to the soquili's conversation preferring gauge Dancer's reaction to his treat before responding. Instead Foalen watched the interaction with a growing sense of amusement though he was careful not to let any of that emotion show. Well now, perhaps he would have some help in leading Dancer to trust again.
That would be wonderful if it were to happen. After having been all but abandoned by her previous mate Ayita needed a good stallion friend to be with and depend upon. Oh she was strong and wise and managed just fine on her own. But he could tell that she was lonely for male companionship. And while he seemed skittish around humans, Foalen had a feeling that Dancer would be a loyal and caring friend. After all he had dared human company for Wambli's sake.
If there was even the seed of possibility Foalen decided then and there to try and nurture it to the best of his abilities. He could tell neither Dancer nor Ayita had picked up on their mutual reactions, but he wouldn't have been surprised if Wambli had. The shaman smiled as he gave the dark winged mare a wink. As shy as the other two were behaving he doubted they would notice.

"It's very good!" the spotted one said in reply. "I can see that these creatures may have some uses after all. And before you two start up on me again I know that not all humans are bad, but enough of them are that you can't be too careful around their kind! Just because this one is nice now," and he tossed his head in Foalen's direction "doesn't mean that all the ones here are and that we should let our guard down!"
Dancer refused to give in that easily. His spirit was telling him that this place was safe but that was what he had thought of his former home as well.
Wambli saw the shaman's clandestine wink and returned it with one of her own. At the stallion's remarks she bit back her own words though. It would take time, she knew. Habits that had grown over a lifetime would not go away in a day. Dancer had a warrior's heart and those took work to be tamed. But at least today they had a beginning!
