Welsh looked at Oar and laughed, "Her? A doctor? Hell no..." she started before Oar pushed on the bullet graze on her arm, and shut her up.

Oar shook her head, "Welsh is right, I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty good as long as you don't need extensive medical attention.

"I fixed Welsh up pretty good. Well, as good as one can fix someone like her," she said. "Why what happened?"

Vance scowled, now wasn't the time to be modest in his opinion. He could have sworn he had heard doctor, but then again, that may have been wishful thinking.

"We just need something we can use as antiseptic, Vance---I mean X5-327--- has a bullet wound. We need to get the bullet out and the hole reasonably clean," Mauri responded when her partner just scowled.

Oar reached into her deep pant pocket and pulled out a small vial. Then walking over to the the others she held it out. "It is iodine, so it will hurt like hell, but it ought to do the trick."

Mauri moved forward to take it, a grateful smile on her face, "Thank you. I'm X5-673 and this," she indicated Vance, "is X5-327. Sorry for not introducing ourselves sooner. The last twenty-four hours have been chaotic to say the least. We shouldn't forget proper protocol though."

The woman moved back to Vance who had taken a seat in the grass and went to work cleaning the wound, trying to conserve the iodine. Vance had his head decidely turned the other way as he tried to focus on other things.

"381," Welsh said pointing to herself, and then pointing at Oar she said, "106. But please, I hate those goddamn numbers, so call me Welsh, and you can just call her Oar."

"The only reason she has you do that," Oar began, "Is because she has the worst time remembering the numbers."

X5- 327 smirked but it turned into a grimace as Mauri began to try and pull the bullet out, "Va-nce" he nodded to the blonde, "and Mauri"

"You sure you can do that by yourself?" Oar asked. "I mean, I've never pulled a real bullet out of a real leg, but I've seen it done before."

Mauri gently pulled the bullet, going slow so not to lose her grip. She was lucky,it wasn't too deep in and she was grateful that Vance wasn't moving she wasn't sure she would be able to keep her grip on the smooth thing. Oar's comment broke the soldier's concentration and her fingers slipped off the bullet. Turning to look at them both as she doused her hands again she sighed grateful, "It would be nice if I had someone to hold the wound open. Any help is good, I'm not even sure what I'm doing, but I know that he needs to get the bullet out to prevent infection and to allow for it to heal properly."

Oar hurried over, and crouched down across from Mauri. "Just tell me where," she said. Oar wasn't sure how Mauri was going to go about this, and she didn't want to get in the way.

Vance watched as Mauri had the brown haired girl hold the skin around the wound back and started to pull the bullet the remainder of the way out. Wincing, the man looked away and vowed to himself never to get shot again.

Oar had to look away from the bullet wound. She had seen stuff like this before, but she had never been face to face with it. Welsh's wounds had been simple, not a lot of blood, no big deal. This on the other hand turned her stomach.

Seeing her friends obvious ill will Welsh asked, "You gonna be ok, Oar?"

"I'm fine," Oar said with a smile. "Just not use to it, is all."

"Just a little more," X5-673 mumbled to herself as she coaxed the bullet out, "There."

Tossing the bullet aside she again doused the wound, turning to Oar she asked, "Do you have any clean material to cover the wound?"

"Oh, yes," Oar said as she pulled out the rest of the gauze she had. "It isn't much, but it is all I have," she said as she handed it over. "I didn't think I would really ever need it so I never packed very much."

“Thanks. Even a little is better than anything make-shift,” Mauri said as she gratefully took the gauze. Quickly she dressed the wound, it wasn’t as nice as a trained doctor would have done but in terms of field care it was decent. Standing the woman handed back the now empty vial to Oar before offering a hand to her partner.

Vance gratefully grabbed her hand pulling himself up. Turning to look at the other X5s he murmured his thanks than began to look around the clearing. It was only about mid-morning, they had a long way to go before nightfall and the rendezvous signal became visible.

"We have awhile till nightfall, I'm sure there most be a town close by," he said looking at the three women, "I don't know about you but I didn't have time to grab any rations or field gear when the hallways started clouding with smoke. If we find a town we can find something to eat and maybe we'll get lucky and some officers will be there."

Welsh looked at Oar, and then back at the others. "We don't have anywhere else to go, so might as well."

"Besides," Oar added, "We didn't bring anything besides what I had on me."
