Her queery made him nervous and he fidgeted just slightly. He talked with his mother... but not about catching up. And he still was sure if... or how... to tell Liliana what he'd told his mother yesterday. "Ah... we talked for a little while. I took a nap. Got woken up for dinner and when Iris saw momma and everyone realized who she was... I think she was startled that they were all so pleased she was there. She kept getting stolen away this morning... but I don't really mind. For now just having her back is enough... and Iris deserves a chance to catch up with her too." He was both hoping and fearing that she'd ask what they talked about...

His fidgeting made her eyes open, and they turned to look at hi as she tilted her head a bit away from where she had been snuggling Endless to be able to watch his face. "What's wrong? Did you talk about something bad, is that it? What was it?" Worry for him caused her voice to rise sharply, anxiety sitting in her green eyes. "Whatever it is... you can tell me."

"I... well... we were talking about you..." He sighed and hid his face in her neck fur, warm breath puffing out every so often. "She asked me and I just sort of... spilled all my feelings out. Everything I've been thinking about... things I've... sort of been afraid to tell you..." But Naneth was right, wasn't she? Lily should know... it was going to effect her life very seriously, and the life of whoever she chose, no matter who she chose. So he just blurted out everything he'd told his mother the day before in a rush to make sure he got it all out before he changed his mind... and then debated seeing if he could fit himself inside his bag because his nerves suddenly felt completely frayed.

Liliana froze where she stood. They talked about her? He had not seen his mother since he was a kit, thought she was dead and they only spoke of her? Surely that was not all...
Her tails found his as Endless spilled everything. She could not even feel her own pulse, and briefly wondered if her heart had stopped when her breath caught. Then suddenly her pulse returned, crashing about her ears nd she breathed out heavily, curling her neck around his head buried in the fur there. What could she say?
Lightly she licked she side of his face at the base of his ear. "Endless... thank you." Her voice was fraught with emotion and she licked the spot again before pulling back with a shaky laugh. "Let's see those shovels... I've never built a sandcastle before."

Endless sat up shakily, both from his nerves and from relief at Lily's reaction. He pawed through the bag, getting out first the shovels, then a pair of plastic buckets that matched the shovels. He handed Lily a shovel and the bucket that went with his shovel, obviously not paying attention, and started pawing in the bag again. Finally he found what he was looking for and tugged a big beach blanket out through the opening. "That was hard to get in there... but I figured it would be nice to have a place to sit that didn't get sand in our fur..."
He would have been wondering what she thought about what he said, but he was having a hard time thinking at all at the moment and so just went along with her comment. "And there's a trick to building sandcastles... you have to get close enough to where the water is that the sand sticks together good without being so close that the waves wash it away... at least for a while. High tide usually gets them anyway..." He dug one more thing out of the bag then. A camera. "So I brought this."

Liliana was not doing much better than Endless and though she noticed the mismatched sets nothing registered. She smiled, her tails wagging in a nervous but 'I'm trying to do this play-thing' way. "You need the sand to stick together, wet from water? Why not just wet the sand, higher up the beach? It still won't last... but maybe longer..."
like snow sculptures, right Endless?

Endless grinned lopsidedly. "Well, it stays wet longer down there... the sand starts crumbling apart if it dries too much. Beach sand... is like that." He didn't exactly know why it was like it was... but it was.
He trotted down to where the sand was dark and damp but not too close and pressed his paw into it. "It feels funny between your toes... I like it, unless I have a cut or something. Then the salt isn't so fun."

Shrugging her bag off over her head Liliana left it on the sand up by the ridge and trotted, pail with mismatched shovel inside it held in her mouth. Sun glinted from the pendant always hung about her neck.
She set the pail down near Endless with a sheepish smile. "So it does." She giggled, letting the sand squish a little between her toes and then flinching with an "eww!" look as the sensation sent shivers through her. Lily giggled a little longer, shooting the night-sky male sheepish little glances. "Guess I'm not used to it..."

Endless grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, it can do that." He'd been a little taken aback the first time, but his emotions were in a different sort of jumble then and he'd almost reveled in the messy feel after a few minutes.
He searched around for a minute and then planted his shovel in a spot of sand. "Let's try here?" She'd probably defer to his choice of spot, but still...
Suddenly he looked up at her, a small quirky smile tugging on his lips. "Did I ever mention the time I was a clown in a circus show?" He wasn't sure what brought it to mind... his thoughts were all over the place.

Lily shrugged. "Sure. Why not? You're the one that's done this before."
Following his motions she repeated them, stopping to blink at what he said. "You? A circus clown? No. You never mentioned it."

He demonstrated filling up the bucket and then turning it over before lifting it off to make a tower. Then he walked a few steps away and made another, afterward starting a little wall between them. "Outside wall," he explained.
He waited a few minutes before elaborating about the clown thing. "It was shortly after my last night with the hobo, before I made up mind to head here... there was a circus in town, little bitty mom 'n' pop sorta thing. There was a lady kitsu in the clown act... we talked a few times. She was expecting, and, well, nature took its course about 10 minutes before the act one night. Her guardian begged me for help since I knew the act... so I helped out. One spot, kitsu is supposed to walk out of the prop area and get sprayed with seltzer by a guy on a stool... I snuck around a different way and waited until he went looking and got him instead. Turned the act upside down but evryone loved it, so..." He grinned. "I can't always say much about my life but I got a few good things. ...Most of them recent. Anyway..." He playfully flung a shovel of sand in the air.

Her brow furrowed, wondering why they would make the outside wall before any inside walls but once more followed Endless' lead. He was the one who knew what they were doing.
She was laughing at the clown story, just being glad to think on something fun for a change when she caught sight of the sand being thrown into the air. Her paw went automatically to her wand even as a shriek came from her. Brown wings crossed protectively over her head and she backed up two steps into a defensive position.

Suddenly everything about his posture vibrated concern and Endless practically jumped to position himself to help cover Lily's head until the sand settled. "I'm sorry! Are you ok? I didn't think the wind would catch it like that... Did it get in your eyes?" He immediately retrieved his bag. "I brought water for tea, but we can use mine to wash out the sand..." It was hard to hear since he'd practically stuck his head in the bag for that last part, but his voice was laced with concern and chagrin. Be more careful, stupid goof! Lily's having a hard enough time without you accidentally putting her eyes out...

Her instincts had been faster than her ability to actually see what was coming. Feeling only some sand land on her covering wings -Endless had blocked any that might have landed on her head- Lily looked up in surprised relief. Hearing the male's worry she went to him, lightly nuzzling his shoulder as her adrenaline from the moment slowly ebbed. "It's okay!! I'm fine! Just startled is all."

He looked up from the bag, carefully putting the water down as he looked into her eyes. "You're okay?"
He stood up and just looked at her for a moment before gently licking her cheek. "Okay... and I think I'll refrain from tossing any more sand outside my bucket." He stuck his tongue out and led her back over to the beginnings of the sand castle.
