yamaha = not that great for advanced flute I currently have a Sonare which I love to death, very nice flute good sound, responsive (both in sound and keys). Trevor James I like their headjoints, but the flutes felt wrong for me, Miyazawa is flippin' amazing but expensive.

I really have no idea what my favorite brand of flute is because I don't know anything really about different brands. All I know is that my flute is an openholed Yamaha. I have no idea what brand my piccolo is though.

I've only played blessing and Gemeinhardt so i'd have to say that Gemeinhardt is the best.

Headjoint-wise I would say it varies. I've tried Landell headjoints, and I will say they are amazing for the right person <3 For me, the titaniums weren't to my taste but they are amazing for some people [like the all state 1st chair flute! her tone was amazing!] Landell Titaniums feel funny on my lips when I play. Too smooth? How do I explain that? Although I've played some of Landell's headjoint combinations with gold and silver and whatnot. I forget the combination. I actually liked that one very much. So if you're looking for a really good headjoint maker, and willing to put in the money [Landell's titanium headjoints are about $3000 USA dollars a pop!]
Powell makes very good flutes. My teacher let me try the one she's planning on buying. smile It was amazing~! I fell in love! The all silver sterling headjoint took my breath away [literally lmao! no pun intended]. I first used it with the flute it came with. It was the Powell Burkhart flute I played. Very nice. The Powell Burkhart flute...now that was an expierence. When I first played one, everything came out naturally for me. The low notes are impeccable, imo. I've never heard my low notes so clearly and played them so easily. And believe me, I spend HOURS on my low range. It was so easy with the Powell flute. Although it did not have a split E to my dislike [I play an Allegro Yamaha]. Powell headjoints are very good though. I used the Powell headjoint with my Allegro flute and it sounded perfect. smile The silver sterling headjoints cost $890.
Now it's my review on flutes! I've tried Gemeinhardt, and they are good for beginners. Their piccolos aren't too bad. smile I will say that Gemeinhardt is the flute to go for when you're a beginner. It helped me a lot! Now on to my current flute, the Allegro Yamaha. smile I love this flute to bits. I suggest, once you get used to the flute, that you take out the plugs. It is my opinion that the flute was meant to be played open holed, and if left plugged up the tone comes out limited and weaker when it shouldn't be. It will be much easier to project. The Allegro is a good intermediate flute, imo. It has a split e so those nasty es will come out much easier than before. A good model to grow with.
Phew. I wasn't planning on making such a huge post.
Anyway~! I prefer Yamaha and am dying for a Powell. smile Powell has my heart~!

Personally I prefer the armstrong beginner models of gemeinhardts. I find them to have better key action and an effortless headjoint capable of a pretty good sound for a beginner. And then Jupiter beginners are as bad as the rest of their flutes.
I wish I could try more professionals. x3

I'm in love with my armstrong, but I really like the tone of my Reynolds. It's old (51), but it plays like a gem. I LOVE it.

I have a Dean Yang (which is pretty much a Trevor Wye, theyre practically the same flute). It's an intermediate that wasn't too pricey and sounds like a proffesional. I absolutely love it!

Currently, I own both a Deford flute and a Deford Piccolo. They are quite excellent with intonation and sound.
