"Where I come from..." he said the words slowly... masking the old pain of his one acknowledged failure...

"Where I come from, you would be proud to call home." He finished, leveling very bright eyes on the honey colored mare. For a long moment he just stared at her, barely noticing the sudden pickup in the breeze.

"But who I know... who I knew... you would not approve... society did not approve. She made a false claim, and they accepted it within the bounds of their laws, and let a "despicable" creature free. It was HER choice, HER admission...her... "just desserts".... her words."

He didn't say that the filly had been as close as his daughter, that he had seen the truth in her eyes and promised to seek revenge.

That she had told him no.. and his hooves had been tied by society's laws.

"I will personally kill any rapist, because killing... is acceptable in My Lord's eyes." He didn't elaborate after that, only continued to stare at the mare, eyes growing increasingly brighter.

Pop.

As though she were a balloon or a podium speaker, her pedestal was knocked from beneath her and her blustering rant came to a rather abrupt halt. She was still angry, the very thought of him dismissing his mother as someone who deserved such pain had heard but by his own admission he had confessed something that she would have considered to be far too personal to bestow on a simple stranger.

"You do not know who I do and do not approve of, Sir," Her own tone was controlled, her words monitored as she gauged the situation at hand. She wasn't one who often lost her composure and it seemed like her own 'just desserts' that she now done so and had been greeted with such a response.

"But I am sorry, all the same." Perhaps it was the only time that she might apologise to one such as him but it seemed appropriate, especially when his eyes were glowing in that way. She wasn't intimidated by them, she was simply wary as these lands seemed to hold much that her own did not.

"That being said...killing as an act of revenge holds no honour, it makes you as bad as the creature that committed the crime in the first place."

"By who's definition?" He replied angrily, taking one step forward. "By my own admission, I have told you My Lord takes no exception to taking the life of a foul beast when I am asked or I am threatened. Even by your laws I would be in the right given those parameters."

He paused again, retreating that single step as if chagrined. But his tone held the same heat when he continued.

"And I will not stand by helpless again because of Society's View and Society's Law! I hold no bonds sacred but the one to My Lord and I fear only his Judgement! My own honour is irrelevant as honour is as empty as the creatures that decide what defines 'Honourable'! I need only my faith in His wisdom!"

"And who is you lord, what gives him the right to define what is right and wrong?" Narrowing her eyes, the mare stood her ground as he came towards her again. Completely nameless, unknown to her and yet he stood before her now and argued with her as though he had known her years. As strange as it sounded, she almost felt as though she could have known him for years given the content contained in his words.

"I cannot see him, I cannot hear him - which leads me to question whether or not he is something or someone you have made up," Releasing a snort the mare briefly glanced at the tree. Throughout it had been completely silent, he hadn't used it as a way to escape scrutiny at all - whether she should have been impressed by that remained unknown to her.

"If only to excuse your behaviour and lack of coherent thought in relation to certain subjects." She snapped hotly, shaking her mane in an attempt to dismiss the tension headache creeping across her face.

"My Lord is your Lord, and he has been given a masculine identity because it is how I have chosen to view him. You may see him in a different light, but rest assured he is not the same as the false 'Great Spirits' so many in this area seem to worship." The dark unicorn took a moment to settle himself, closing his eyes in an attempt to cool his ruffled feathers.

He really couldn't recall the last time he had been riled so, and the discussion hadn't even started with what was usually the flamethrower.

"But to question my faith in Him is similiar to questioning your own heartbeat... and the faith you have that it will continue beating through the night when you sleep."

"The Spirits are not false," Her tone was flat, blunt and indicated that she was not going to argue that matter any further. Her entire body had tensed and it was with a slight raise of her brow that she scrutinised him further - if anything she now saw him for what he was. An incoherent stallion, one of a disturbed mind who had lived his life on a pedestal.

"I have faith in my heart beat because the great spirits protect it, when it is time for it to stop then it shall do so," allowing her ears to swivel at the sounds of the wildlife in the distance, she shook her head. "I do not question them, they do not question me and they have never forced their existence or views on another," Eyeing him critically, the petite mare to a few proud steps towards the stallion until she was only a few feet away, her height much clearer.

"They have never needed followers to force those views either, they come when we are ready not when a beast with a superiority demands that we believe in something he has no proof of."

"Misguided as you are, you do understand. As you have faith in your heartbeat, so do I have faith in My Lord." Now the stallion took a moment to incline his head, lowering himself so his eyes could meet hers. "Time will tell who rules the Heavens, and I...." he stopped, suddenly unwilling to argue his point further, the energy he once had faded entirelly.

"We are the same, devoted to our Faith. Though not in Who we place our faith in. Will you grant me that acknowledgement, and your name?" He concluded tiredly.

"For all you know they could be the same thing, you are just mortal like me," She pointed out smoothly, blinking slowly as he lowered his head to her height. She wasn't entirely sure as to whether or not that was out of politeness or simply to make his point more powerful but she really didn't care - he had lovely eyes though, she noticed that much now he had calmed himself.

"However I would not say I am devoted to my faith, a more accurate assumption would be that I am devoted to completing the goals I set for myself and merely respect what exists all around me," While her meaning remained vague, it was clear that she was prepared to drop the argument as a mark of respect. He had his faith, she had hers and provided he didn't lecture her she wouldn't argue back.

So much easier that way.

"My name is Ashura, but my family simply call me Ash."

He only nodded his own acceptance of her words, and this time bowed his head lower, closing his eyes in a very... socially pleasing expression of gratitude and greeting.

"Indeed, and you are well met Miss Ashura, my name is Toujours."

When he looked up again, a ghost of his charismatic grin was back.

If she had been feeling much more brave, or had she been prepared to step across the boundaries of decorum - he was at the perfect height for her to lip his nose. However, now that he had bowed his head in such a manner she was aware that it was not a mark of disrespect, it was of something else. While they may have disagreed or misunderstood one another on a few subjects in their chance meeting...

...There appeared to be much more than met the eye, just as her mother had said.

"Almost fitting for you," She mused at last, a smile lifting onto her lips to make her rather critical expression less imposing and suitably more welcoming. While he may not conform to the ways of society, it was simply the nature of a soquili to be more inclined to a warmer expression...just as she was drawn to the pleasant grin he seemed to have when he was not on his 'high horse'.

"....Are you going to tell me what your comrade is saying now? She has been awfully quiet for the last few minutes..."

"She is asleep" He said without even having to think about it, nor without opening his eyes.

Finally he did open them, and he smiled at her with more spirit. "I hope we meet again Miss Ashura." he paused, glancing off towards the rapidly setting sun... where had the time gone?

"Until then... !" He said, leaving the goodbye purposefully unfinished as he spun neatly on his haunches to set off at a brisk trot into the setting sun. After a few steps he half turned his head and tipped his horn, another less then subtle reminder of their conversation.

His ending was abrupt, a little too swift for her liking but it was as his gaze turned towards the setting sun that she became aware of the time - she could have sworn she hadn't been in this place for such a long time...especially not in his company. It was a wonder how time flew when one was distracted or enjoying the company of another...she couldn't say she had enjoyed some of his company but she wouldn't say she hadn't liked others.

However, before she could even open her mouth to return the pleasantries he had always flicked on his haunches and had rather briskly made his escape, presenting her with a rather appealing view of his backside in the process. She may have been calm and may not have excelled at flirting but she could certainly admire a backside or too (even if she wouldn't admit it).

It was when he turned round that she gave a slight bob of her head in return before glancing at the tree almost suspiciously - she knew nymphs and spirits lived in trees so perhaps he had been talking to one of them without realising it.

"You aren't sleep, are you?" She enquired softly, the small smile lingering on her lips briefly before she gave a flick of her tail and began to make her way in the direction she had intended to head. "It was nice of you to humour him like that," She added as she began to distance herself and move further down the slopes.

...Maybe, just maybe, they would meet again.
