Faolen, while very much a brat in most every way, managed to hold back any giggle that might have escaped at the little wobble in her step. If he had trouble walking he’d probably be rather irritated with people that laughed at her. With careful ease Faolen came up beside her and matched his pace to hers. The colt wasn’t any taller than Honey, but he had a certain bulkiness to him.
Winking carefully at the filly, Faolen pranced circles around her while she was giving him his lessons about how-to fish properly.
“Won’ the fish taste rather blah ter yer mouth?” He was thinking’ they wouldn’t go about tramping down on fish and that meant trying to dig them out without killing them. The water was up ahead and Faolen bolted to the edge, letting his muscles do the work and slowing near the water before standing at the edge.
“O’course ye will ye cootie-havin’ female. Ye know wot yer doin’!”

"I dinnae have cooties!" Honey retorted as she came to the edge, examined it briefly and then took a few steps back. With a wag of her tail she bounced twice and leapt in with a reasonably big splash. Remaining submerged under water for a brief time, it wasn't long until she appeared and shook the water from her hair. A tiny gasp and she began to swim about until at last she felt the floor beneath her.
"Over here," She bounced again in the water, a spring in her leap and landed smoothly again thanks to the buffer and cushioning provided by the liquid. All in all, she took to the water like a duck while others might have struggled!
"Now jes' get yerself comfortable and then I'll talk ye through what's we gotta do, k?"

Faolen raised an eyebrow to explain to the filly that all females did have cooties and that all of them should probably invest together in finding a cure for it. His teal eyes flicked to his mane and opened his mouth only to be greeted to a bit of water being thrown onto his hooves and the loud KER-SPLASH that went along with the flying water. He snorted and held in a gasp. Of all the weird..
“Willna that scare off the fish?” A much more dignified and proper “entrance” was made by Faolen, who simply waded into the water up to his shoulders and gave Honey a rather kingly look as if being in the water was his domain.
It did take a couple moments of shifting and wriggling to get himself comfortable, “I’m ready.”

"Course it won't!" Honey replied smoothly, smiling as the fish began to form beneath her hooves once more. With her more relaxed 'stride' through the water, there was less of a disturbance and the brief glitter of fish scales made her smile all the more. The water was one of her favourite places and sometimes she wished she could live in it forever!
Alas, she couldn't...which was a shame.
"See? They're right there," She explained before giving a little huff and moving back towards him. Coming to a halt, she propped her tiny self beside him and then began her lesson - first by nudging one of his legs into a better position with one of her own. No doubt he would be cootie infested by that little move!
"Ok, now what ye gotsa do is control yer breathin' so it's nice and steady," She demonstrated by taking big breaths in and out. They were slow and barely disturbed the water as the fish began to swim around her legs - oblivious to her existence.
"Then once yer ready, ye wait until a fish is right in front of ye, cup your legs and rear! Watch." She waited just until the fish was in front of her and in a rather rapid movement brought her front legs together and reared onto her hind legs. It was with a tiny bounce that she popped briefly out of the water, the fish flying into the air before it splashed back into the water and darted away again.
It seemed completely unharmed.
"Now you try!"

Faolen gave her a rather skeptical look and gazed down into the water. Wow, the fish here must be extra dumb to not be afraid of so much splashing and stuff. Of course, how many fish were there in the world that weren’t borderline stupid? A grin spread across his face as a few wicked thoughts danced around in his mind - much like his father.
Too bad he didn’t dare voice them, yet.
A flash of shimmery-sheer white caught his eye and Faolen nodded at her. Right now, cooties were the last thing on his mind because it was focused on learning how to fish properly. Making a fool of himself in front of a … girl wasn’t really high up on his to-do list. Actually, making a fool of himself wasn’t on the list.
His breathing was already steady, so all he did was deepen the breathes he took so they were slower and more even more controlled, “Aye..” Faolen’s black legs were faded into the water and he had to squint to see them around the fish.
Faolen had to hold back in a roar of laughter at the sight of the rearing filly followed by the flying fish. He had been wondering what they did with the fish if they came out of the water and onto the shore.. He sure wasn’t going to be eating him. Focusing his breathing and squinting down into the water, Faolen suddenly pushed his legs together and reared back. The fish stayed in his hooves for half of the ride but wriggled out.
Faolen sank down empty-hooved.
“Well.. Almost had one.”

Oh she knew by the glint in his eyes that he wanted to laugh but he wasn't an Islagiatt! He didn't know the importance of the tradition and it was with that in mind that the little filly puffed out her chest. She could be filled with pride when necessary and when it came to family traditions she would protect and uphold them (even if he found them weird)...Well, her family were highly dysfunctional as was, it made sense!
Nevertheless, when he made his own attempt and missed she gave a little giggle and shook her head. Well, it had taken her a couple of attempts to get one too when she first started. Given that he had done as he was told she suspected he'd be almost as good as she was (but she'd always be better)!
"Naw, give it another try - ye be gettin' it pretty soon!" She voiced in an encouraging manner, moving in a little deeper in search of another shoal of fish.

Faolen managed to giggle at himself. Of course, it had to be a much more”manly” sound than a traditional giggle, but when everything was beaten down to a pulp that was the noise. His vibrant teal eyes danced around and Faolen found himself having fun in the water. Sure, later his coat would probably feel like extra fluffed up.. But why bother? Not like anybody needed to think he was looking cute or something odd like that.
His eyes went back to the water in concentration and several times the muscles in his body tensed up which seemed to make the fish go away. Eventually he settled again and spotted a likely candidate. Faolen forgot about the girl watching him and started, trying to time everything to perfection.
Finally, he moved. Imitating her movements -almost- identically the fish flew up and through the air and made a loud splash. Unfortunately, Faolen was still a bit slower than her so they both got a few droplets of water to the face.
“Oi!! I got one, lass!”

[[...Omfg Naci is luff! *Fluffs the gorgeous girl* <3 If only I had a stallion to chuck at her!]]
"I told ye so!" With a delighted squeal Honey circled around the colt and gave her tail a little wag. After a few moments of celebration though, her face returned to its 'serious' expression and she shook her head. There was something very important that she was forgetting, she'd forgotten to do the ritual for fish catching!
Her face was solemn.
Her tone, firm.
And while this all seemed extremely comical to the outside world the little filly felt rather important as she puffed out her chest and began to speak. He must take his oath - then she would inform her daddy and he would become an honorary fisher-horse!
"Ye need te take an oath!" She declared at last, "Then ye join the ranks of the honoured, k?"

Faolen raised an eyebrow and stared at her for a moment while trying to decide what precisely he wanted to say. This fishing business wasn’t precisely hard, but it did take patience and some skill with aiming and timing. Hm.. His teal eyes raised up to simply stare at her while she wound up for some sort of speech.
His face was grinning.
His eyes were mischievous.
Take an oath? A frown ruined the grin for just a moment while the colt considered just what precisely it meant when one had to “take an oath” His body shifted slightly and disturbed the water that rippled and rolled around them so very peacefully.
“Who’s in yer ranks o’ honor?” The question was lightly put but rather suspicious. No monkey-business for him.

"All those who have fished before ye and have passed on this glorious gift!" Still puffed up and on her soap box, the little girl had completely ignored his grin and continued. "Tha' be me Great Aunt, me da' and some more of the Islagiatt Herd!" She leant forward and offered a grin of her own - alright, so she was making him swear a herd's oath but it was a tradition and her herd were very open...the more the merrier!
"It is our duty to pass on this gift to those we deem worthy," She continued, wagging her tail from side to side, "SO! You must swear that ye will pass this gift on to those ye sire (whatever that means) and tha' ye will make sure tha' those ye do teach respect the water...both for what it gives and takes." She finished, that said she fell silent and waited for him to mull this over.
Then he better promise or she'd jump on him and hold him under until he did!

Faolen tried to listen. He really did, but his young mind was distracted by the fact that this bossy bit of goods was telling him what to do. His father had told him repeatedly to revere women, because someday they’d probably have a lot of him to take care of. What that meant, he was sure.. But then Caelen had given his mamma a really mushy look. Ew. “Islagiatt? Can ye even spell tha’ missy?” Hm.. Would he do as told?
Was there anybody that Faolen knew that would get a kick out of this sort of game? Probably only a couple, most the people he knew. (which wasn’t a long list) were too busy with other things to want to stand and play in water til the cows came home. “Weell… I’ll think a’bout takin’ yer oath.” With that Faolen spun and soggily trudged out of the water to dry out.
She’d have trouble holding him under if he wasn’t in it!

She gasped, he had completely cast her 'demand' aside and had disrespected her family. She wasn't entirely sure how the most dignified of soquili would have responded to that and so she did the only thing she could. Splashing her hooves angrily in the water, she pulled a face and granted the tears permission to well up in her eyes - he was so rude! So offensive and she wasn't all that good with her words yet!
"Hmph!" She snapped at last, the tears still visible in her eyes as she began to trudge out of the water herself. Giving her tail a little wiggle, she sniffed and then held her head high. Tail perked, she began to 'strut' away from the colt only to trip and stumble a short ways away.
...It didn't take long for her to get back to her feet, give another little sniff...and keep walking.

Oh great. Faolen had forgotten that girls would cry if the weren’t appeased immediately. Must be the cooties in their blood system. That didn’t mean he felt any better when the tears on her face began to form. Oh lord. What was the correct thing to do in a thing like this.. It didn’t help that the grand exit she began to make was ruined by flopping and stumbling a bit. Now wasn’t time to laugh though, so he kept his mind to his self.
“Honey! Oi! Get back here!” Lifting the white-green tail up like a banner he lit after her and caught up pretty easily, cutting her off. “I was jest playin’. I take yer oath an’ me word is as good as me blood!” His father had taught him that breaking an oath or vow was a high sin.
His teal eyes looked at her imploringly, please stop crying. Please. Please. Please.

"De nae insult the name of Islagiatt!" Honey's eyes widened at his slip up and she shook her head. The tears simply kept coming and then at last began to seep down her cheeks before she took another gulping breath, "Jes' cause yer guilty dinnae mean ye gotsa sink so low - ye dinnae take the oath when asked, ye dinnae deserve to now!" She snapped and with that she began to move around the colt again.
She wanted to go home, to see her daddy, mommy and her sisters!
"Now ye be goin' away and ye be stayin' away - I dinnae wanna see ye again! MEANIE!" Hiccuping, the little filly quickened her pace, stumbling through the grasses in the rough direction of a hulking adult just about visible in the distance. It seemed that this was probably one of Faolen's first encounters with a female...when her mind was made up.
No meant no. Leats he didn't hav to deal with the cooties!

Faolen eyed the little filly and reached out to nuzzle her for a moment before being denounced as a, "MEANIE!"
His eyes widened for a fraction of time before narrowing to gaze at her carefully..
Oh, they'd be meeting again. She had just made damn sure of that.
