Oh, how could I forget? Longaberger baskets. They're baskets! Crazy expensive baskets. I have never understood nor will I ever understand the fascination. Yet lots of middle-aged women living around Newark who have nothing better to do collect them as if they were fine, porcelain dolls. Oh... and the office building is a veritable tourist attraction. Facts on the "Largest Basket-Shaped Building in the World". The "largest" part frightens me. Because that means it's not the only one.

...I can't decide if that's a cool looking office, or if it's mildly terrifying.
I'm leaning toward mildly terrifying, though.

I was shocked as hell when I went into a KFC in Canada (Windsor, in fact... almost an adopted sibling of Detroit) and they didn't know what "mashed potatoes, gravy, and biscuits" were.
"Uh... you want fries?"
What?!? Fries? With fried chicken?!? INSANITY!
And their bagel shops didn't know what a salt bagel was!
When I was in Portland last month, I was rather disappointed to find that I in fact could NOT find Labatt Blue. Mind you, I don't like beer, can't stand it really, but I was visiting my dad, so there had to be some bonding and such, and Labatt is the only beer that I can tolerate... and they didn't have it?!? Bloody hell! s**t, why not tell me you don't sell Doritos and Coke while you're at it!
Gotta say, I do love Vernors, though. Totally agreed that it's good s**t. 's also hard to find Faygo many places outside Michigan.
Why the hell am I talking?

Crimson_And_Clover 24-Hour diners....the way they should be We have this great 24-Hour diner in Seattle called Beth's. It's my favorite place to eat, and supposedly it's pseudo-famous for serving 12 egg omelettes.

I can't think of anything special that's Oregon or Portland specific. gonk Maybe Burgerville, but it's definitely northwest-only, not Oregon. It's delicious but overpriced, anyway. So yeah I don't know anything else off-hand that comes from Oregon that's special. Yay!

Sirius Silverstar Hahaha, I was just talking to a Texas friend about Whataburger a few days ago! I thought he was saying "whats-it-called burger" like he forgot the name of the place. KirbyHero California has In & Out burger stands. It's such a Godsend sometimes. It's burgers are delicious, and yet it's so cheap and simple to order. Sure there isn't the versatility as having fast food sides like salads, chicken, and so on, but it has the classic burger stand stuff down and perfect. I still don't understand the hype over In & Out. But I'm not big on burgers, so that may be it. Maybe it's the love they put into it that makes it seem to taste better? Naaaaaaaah. Something about them seems fresh. Like, by compasision, other fast food places taste like they came out of the freezer. That is also one big basket themed building.

I know Wawa, and I know that sandwich. I shoplifted like THIRTY of those back when I was homeless.
Around here, all we've got is a metric ******** of good chinese places. Ohyeah, and you practically can't open a restaurant here unless you're a CIA graduate. Seeing as how they're right across the river and all.
Bagel whores, make your way to the most jewish place you can find. Flushing, Long Island... wherever. BAGELS ARE GOD.

Bah, living out here on a tiny island I can actually remember when the first McDonald's and Domino's Pizza started out their stores over here. We didn't have Burger King until 2 or 3 years ago (and good riddance, I would have said! I've never et there).
My favorite places would entail a tiny joint which sells burgers called "Skari", which is a shortening of the name Oscar over here. They have the nicest bacon burgers I know of, and many a hang-over has been eliminated there.
Then there's an ice-cream stand which has been running for I don't know how many decades, they have two brands of vanilla soft-ice, the "old" and the "new". The new is basically your run of the mill company made ice-cream, while the old is just... yum. It's cold and stiff and fresh and more milky. I love it. heart
Edit; OH! And as for drinks we have here I'm sure are perfectly regional; A fizzy drink with pinapple/orange flavor, donned the simple name of "Mix", then there's Maltextract! Whoo, It's lovely, dark and malty. A seasonal drink drunk by liters in every home around X-mas, Malt og AppelsÃn! Malt mixed with orange-lemonade. I drink it all year round. cool
Then we apparently have some beers that have won awards, such as Viking. Compared to those most foreign beers I've tried taste like water. And strong liquers like BrennivÃn (basically firewater), cummin and poppy seeds, it's the icelandic equivalent of vodka.

I've heard of Whataburger, I've even passed by some on vacation over the years. But I've never eaten at one, we always pass it by for Lotaburger. This isn't really regional for me but I've been to it Soo many times over the years as it's where mom always wants to go when we travel back to New Mexico to visit family. http://www.lotaburger.com/index.phpThis isn't really regional for me either but how could I no mention it. Philippe's almost a hundred years old establishment. When I still lived in Norwalk, California(part of the L.A county) I used to go there fairly often. They have the BEST DIPPED SANDWICHS EVER!!And their hot mustard is like world famous. crying heart http://www.philippes.com/Another place that I can think of is Farmer Boys, I used to eat there all the time when we(my family) visited my mom's Aunt. I grew up in one of these, not just because of the food, but because I played a good portion of my Arcade gaming here. crying heart http://www.farmerboys.com/And on the note of In-&-out I feel its a great burger joint not only because they prepare their food fresh, but because my Papa proposed to my Granny in one, almost 53 years ago. And where they started the mess that brought me along two generations later. lol And that's my family history. rofl

We have Rally's in Ohio. It's probably another Midwest deal.
And I think every town has SOME restaurant run by a "d**k." If not "d**k," then "Richard" or "Ricardo" or something that people are just going to substitute "d**k" for and laugh.

Mm. You can't generalize too much with California [or any state] - when I travel to different cities or regions of California I honestly feel like I'm in a different state sometimes. It's so diverse, and I don't just mean the people.
