Hello everyone, I'm Chris and I'm a sophomore in Highscool (which I usually keep secret onlineso I don't freak out ED'ers, but you guys seem nice. lol). I'm currently taking classes on the side in philosophy and psychology, and at the same time school courses in government and sociology. One day I plan to work as a politician, for lack of a better word, and to try to bring society in the most just perceivable direction (hence the philosophy).
Lately I've been playing around with Descartes and Plato/Socrates, but never mention George Berkeley around me. At one of my shorter week- long courses my instructor challenged all of us to refute him by his standards, and I spent the entire week on it. In the end I was able to, where only 4 college students had before, and got Plato's Death of Socrates books and... *sigh*... Berkeley's book. Anyway, if you want to know what I came up with, you'll just have to get into a debate with me. wink
(and no, I didn't kick a tree stump, lol)

Howdy howdy
Niniva here, Junior in college (or so they tell me) Majoring in Philosophy with a minor in psycology.
I suck at spelling, and I use elipses far too much when I type but I like it that way.
My areas of expertise (or focus if you will) are in the philosophy of mind, personality, theology and Philosophy of science, and Metaphysics. I tend to stay away from Postmodern Philosophy or Continental Philosophy as a logician. None of their ramblings make any sense to me at all.
Anyway, lets discuss.

Greetings, everyone! I am Tibby, and I am a student of philosophy. I hope to become a university professor of philosophy. My current interests are existentialism and philosophy of mind (focusing on consciousness and eliminativism). I am currently studying postmodernism, Heidegger, eliminativism, and existentialism. My top favorites, sur la momente, are Jean-Paul Sarte, Martin Heidegger, Albert Camus, and W.V.O. Quine. I am told I am a "Continental Philosopher," but, from what I've studied and what professors have told me, the "Analytic/Continental Divide" is very vague and not at all well-defined, and some Continental philosophers resemble each other just as much as they resemble Analytic philosophers, so, I've chosen not to define myself as of yet. If you must label me philosophically, then I am "A seeker of wisdom." What is wisdom? And on and on the philosophers go!

Well, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Mel. I am 16 years old and music is my life. I play the piano, flute and the clarinet. I also like drawing and writing. I love sports but since I got my knee surgery, I have to wait a year before I can any sports. I am a fan of video games but I am not a huge gamer unlike my friends. LOL The career path I would like to pursuit is in the field of Forensics. I am currently taking classes for it. I am currently in my last year of high school.

Hello and thank you for letting me join you guild. My friend invited me onto Gaia and I was kind of scared I wouldn't meet any intelligent people (mainly just from his view point of Gaia... which was to make gold and play games), so finding this Guild was a relief.
My real name is Rob. I'm not so much into quoting philosophy, as much as I just like conversation about something other than television.
I spend most of my time working, developing websites and designs for various projects (brochures to blueprints). However, I do enjoy a nice martini with friends as much as possible.
Anyways, thank you again for letting me join. See you on the forum.
cheese_whine or possibly at your local martini bar razz

Hello, my name is liz, I'm sixteen, and I wish to become a surgeon. I have only recently gotten into philosophy and I have a short attention span so if my posts seem a little short its because of that. I read, I write, I have 2 cats and I don't like turkey bacon.
Because I wish to become a surgeon you will see that I will often drift towards protection, also mother teresa is amazing.
hope to see you in the forums wink

Hello all. I'm Lord of the Forest, or LOTF in a more casual term. I'm a seventeen year old and a senior in highschool and a bibliophile. My favorite work of fiction for the last four years has been Watership Down. I hold high aspirations of becoming a film maker as well as writing a few stories, two developing nicely into webcomics that I hope to publish in the future. I currently invest my thoughts on the Chaos Theory and Robert Pirsig's works. I also have a near devout learning of an article written written by David Wong, describing a revelation he had that is quite interesting. I cannot personally define myself as, but as of now I see myself mostly related to an Instrumentalist.

Hey there. You can just call me Nom (or make up whatever nickname you wish, for that matter). My username may make it apparent to some of you that I'm majoring in economics. I've previously studied a bit of visual arts and music before but those are more hobby passions than an academic/career passion, I've found. There's a possibility that I might focus on political science in my academic endeavors eventually.
I'm 24 years old. I guess I have a decent understanding of almost everything but I don't have an in-depth understanding of any particular topic. My opinions will most likely have some humanistic overtones and that also reflects my personality.
Not sure what else to say... uhh... I'm addicted to middle eastern cuisine and I'm training to be a sailing instructor just to have a side job during summers.

Hey, I'm Dave. I'm 17 and a High School dropout. sweatdrop It's a choice. School was boring. I'm kinda lost in space. Trying to figure out what "it" is, and what "is" is. Ya know, the "big picture". I may be in a rut, I might not. I just want understanding, or as Buddhists may say, enlightenment. I believe I may achieve this through thinking about the universe and what it is. I don't know what enlightenment feels like so I may never reach it, But it still won't stop me from thinking.

I didn't actually notice I was accepted till I looked at my Guilds List, sorry about that.
I'm Teddy, I'm a Junior in High School, and I'm currently in a Philosophy Class that is going over the Philosophers of old time, such as Socraties and Aristotle and Plato. Even Jesus and St Paul (( Saul is his original name by the way, and Jesus isn't Jesus Christ, he's Jesus the Christ)
Anyways, I'm more into Philosophy that is actual discussions, rather then sit back and learn from a teacher who is having too much fun to be truthful. But I did like the sub that came in today, he was actually into the conversation on Jesus and Thomas Aquinas who created The Five Ways: The Existence of God.
So yeah, I said in the application that I'd be putting up a video from this place that some called a Church of Philosophy, but I can't find them yet, so I'm continuing my search and hoping to be able to put it into a topic here for others to view.
Oh one of my favorite discussions is about the Big Bang and how it happened. And I love to talk about possibilities of everything and nothing.

I'm Rachael. I'm into being myself, and was bummed when my real name was taken for a Gaia username already when I joined. So I chose "Purete," which is French for "purity." I stand strongly for purity of the mind, body and intentions. I suppose I am somewhat of an altruist.
I have had major misfortunes in my past, things I wouldn't wish on an enemy. But now I can be almost glad for them, because they have made me stronger, wiser, and a better poet. Not to mention, my traumatic experiences have given me much to write about.
I'm 17 years old, a senior, and expecting to start college next year as a Human Services or Social Work major with minors in Creative Writing and Humanities. I am very passionate about writing, and humanities (study of mythology and art history) helps a great deal in writing. But my biggest passion lies in serving the impoverished and homeless. I currently volunteer at the local soup kitchen with my boyfriend, serving food to the homeless and working poor. But my aspirations will take me to Africa, and hopefully India as well.
I do not trust the government. I am an American and a priviledged one at that. For that I am thankful and I know that most people in the world have far more corrupt governments, in which I would not trust either. I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I just recognize the truth. For this reason, and many others, I hope to live in New Zealand after college.
I live down South in North America, in the Bible Belt. This area is very conservative and traditional by heritage. As for myself, I have thoroughly investigated the matters of religion, the accuracy of the Bible, the improbabilities of evolution, and have come to my own conclusion. I know that there must be a creator, and I believe in Intelligent Design with every fiber of my being. Nothing could bring me to doubt. However, unlike my family and many other families around me who believe based on blind faith, I need proof. I found that proof, and do believe. But some people seem to have a problem with the fact that I have no blind faith. I can't say whether this makes me less of a Christian, but I have a heavy conscience, and I feel that if I were lacking in the appropriate sort of faith, the Lord would convict me of it. So there, summarily, is my spirituality.
Shortly I will begin using my Journal to expound on some of my finer opinions, so if I've peaked your interest, check it out. Thanks for reading about me.
Peace and Love

Since I don't give out my real name to anyone I haven't met face to face, I'll just say that I respond to any variation of my username. All that I ask is that no one butcher it for sake of amusement. It has meaning to me. For those who don't know, "Mitsukai" is Japanese for "Angel" and not often used as a Japanese name. Many of my friends have called me that since my Freshman year of high school when I took two Japanese classes (though I don't remember much of what I learned anymore). As for spades, the second black suit in a deck of cards, I used to do a form of tarot just using a standard deck of cards (stopped because I was scaring too many people with the accuracy, myself included). The spades have been my favorite ever since noticing that I get them all the time. So there's mitsukaiofspades.
I'm 18 years old and in my first year of college. I'm currently studying to be a licensed massage therapist, keeping philosophy and my art as hobbies on the side. People have told me I have "magic fingers" so I thought what the hell and decided to go for it. In art, I write, draw, work with CG, and do a bit of music. Besides those things, my hobbies include hanging out with friends, reading, thinking (yes, I use thinking as a hobby if anyone can understand what that means), and spending much of my free time with my boyfriend. I love him more than anything I've ever known.
I took an interest in philosophy when I took it and psychology at the same time during my senior year of high school (if anyone can do so, I recommend it. It gives a very different perspective). I haven't studied it much since, but hopefully being in this guild will get me back into the swing of things before I take a class on it next year.
