He was dreaming.
It occurred to him that this was perhaps a bad sign, as the dead didn't dream of their own accord. But like any dream, he couldn't help but follow the path, down, down, as if he was falling. Stained glass windows threw strange, sickly colors across the darkness in the distorted shapes of memories half-obscured. In sharp relief his friends, his adventures, and at the edges the black shapes of shadowy figures and the distinctive spiked motif of a crown. In dream, he was exposed - and not for the first time. Not the last either, it seemed.
Down the stairs, he moved without a thought, toward the inevitable core of the dream and the thing that pulled him along. He reached toward the objects one by one.
The sword radiated confidence. He had no need of it; never had he been more sure of himself.
The crown radiated regret. He had seen this path once before, like a distant dream; he had no need of another crown, especially not one so tragic.
The staff radiated power, and he grasped it.
Is the path of the dreamer the one you seek?
The darkness began to consume everything.
Do not be afraid -
He awoke with a start to a fading whisper-
This is merely a trial.
*
He awoke to a decidedly more shadowy infestation of creatures, shoveling everything from paper to rocks into their mouths. He paused for only a fraction of a second to wonder - but really, what damage could they do that the seething mass of Soul Eaters hadn't already done? But there were other things in this school they might be chewing on - and other people especially.
With a flap of his wings, he soared over the creatures and out his door.

Dreaming...seemed to be a bit of a thing lately. As if being awake wasn't hard enough, things insisted on invading her dreams, too. It seemed there really was no safe place. She had looked around, peering into the fragments and unable to avoid shivering at what she saw; eventually it opened up to a platform, spotlights on three items in the distance.
She looked at the sword, starting to reach for it when she stopped, pulling her hand back. No, that was the path she always took. It was old now...and she wanted something less...stressful. The staff was out too, mostly because it represented something she couldn't do; magic. The only option then was the crown, which unsettled her for reasons she could yet could not fully explain.
Queen Amrita, again.
Her fingers touched the crown, and something odd happened; she didn't feel powerful, or confident...she felt lonely, and heavy. Was this what Aymet and the others had felt? When she looked up from the crown in her hands she saw someone - herself, perhaps? - sitting on a throne, waiting. An empty feeling added to the loneliness, and the words whispered to her did nothing to ease it; trial or not...
Amrita awoke with a gasp as the platform in her dreams fell, her first site an odd creature eating her homework, and another chewing on DC'S heating lamp. "What the Jack?!" She cursed, jumping to her feet and looking around her room. Judging by the sounds, these things weren't just in her room; should she stay, or should she leave to see what else was going on?
Leave. Definitely leave.
"DC!" The vetala cried, catching the attention of the little Death Charm who was trying to protect his sleeping space. The Undead and her pet broke free of the room and into the creature-ridden hallway, running full tilt out of the Undead dorms to try and find someone else.

Great glorious awakening! The day was here! The time of the prophecy!
The Second Coming of Zalgo!
There was simply no other reason for the bright-eyed shadows to descend upon this world to consume it. Zeek pleasantly bowed to the shadowling that was eating his supplies and hastily pulled his ceremonial sash over his head, clapping his hands together when he was ready. He knew that he was supposed to be calmly accepting of the Second Coming of Zalgo, but he couldn't help himself. He might have even done some good by passing out all of those pamphlets! His fellow students may have prepared as well!
Blind excitement got the best of him. He could no longer sit and await consumption to be One with his Master. He had to know if his classmates were as happy as he was!
His smile stretched almost literally ear to ear as he marched into the hall, a harbinger on a mission.

Zev awoke from a strange dream where it had taken a strange crown, to two golden eyes staring at him in the dark that it was pretty sure weren't its own.
The eyes moved and the vague silhouette of a short, fat, minipet-looking creature was apparent. It picked up a piece of paper, regarded it for a moment - and shoved the whole thing in its waiting mouth.
"A̫͍͉͎r̭͚͉̯̬͔̜e͓͍͉̪̭̱̳ y̤̗o͓̙̭͓̠̯u͔̞͚̖ h̬͕̯u̪̞ṋg̘r̜̥̟̜y?̞" Zev asked, in a small voice that was many in one, male and female both.
The shadow didn't even pause as it consumed Zev's half-finished homework and poems. The shoggoth smiled - it was nice that someone was so interested in its work that they would want to digest it.
More shadows crawled out of the darkness, making a meal out of everything in sight. Zev continued to offer them pencils and stories until a noise in the hallway drew its attention, canine ears perking at the sound. The shoggoth splashed out of the pool that constituted a bed and went to investigate.

((Entering + Running away))
When he woke up, Gabby had a black blob sitting on his chest. It was staring at him. It was trying to steal something that it could only see, but not touch. And it was definitely looking for a fight. But Gabby slept in a half-transparent state, and his heart was off limits to the intruding shadowling.
He slapped it right off of his body as soon as he woke up and solidified. It splattered against the wall, and melted away into the shadows, only to re-emerge somewhere else. And another. Another of his kind started to rise up from the shadows of the room.
"Well." Gabby muttered. "To hell with this."
He walked out, leaving the shadowlings to trash his bare room - and secretly glad he wasn't the kind of person who had anything of value within it.

Looking around her room she wondered if any of this stuff was really worth protecting the little shadowling sure was slippery. HP: 32/40 DMG: TARGET: Shadowling ENEMY HP: 10/10
[ Path of the Observant ] Special Bonus: You cannot attack or defend, you can only HEAL. Your heal depends on your regular melee dice. So if you normally attack using 2d6-6, you heal for that amount. You can only heal one target at a time. If you decide not to heal and use a Fear Charge for the turn, you may do so, those behave normally, same with Artifacts, Runics, Learned Abilities, etc. Distortion and Artifacts that normally boost your attack STACK with your Heals (accordingly) - Your HP is normal, but your attack power, after all results is HALVED - Special Effect: Full Heal Your special bonus heals for double (see above on how to "heal") on any ally being protected by a Warrior skill.

Micail continued to fight against the shadowlings that continued to come into his room. It seemed like every time he finished one off, another would take its place. Just where were these things coming from? At first it didn't seem like a big deal to him but now... The more there were, the harder it was for him to keep himself from getting hit. The things were unpredictable, moving in and out of the shadows made it hard to figure out where they were going to come at him next. Eventually, they were starting to wear him down. He needed to finish them off and get out. "Come on... give me a break here!" He flung one off one of his tails. Finally after constant fighting Micail managed to destroy the last shadowling in his room. Once he was finished he stood for a moment and looked around his room. Those things had destroyed everything in his room! Most of his personal position were gone. Why couldn't the things have eaten his books? Growling he turned and reached for what was left of his clothing. He couldn't very well go out in his boxers. He slipped on some simple khaki shorts and a black tank top. Once dressed, he opened his bedroom door and took off down the dark hall to see what was going on and if he could find anyone else. [Entering]
He woke from a dream, jerking awake in a cold sweat.
Things felt different, and the faerie found himself eyeing his room in a rather worried manner. There were creatures that were gnawing on his things, and Marosa grabbed the first thing he could find -- a rather simple staff -- to club one rather smartly over its head.
As he grabbed the staff, he heard a voice in his head and winced at the familiar weight to it. It was different, but the memory of the last voice... the end hadn't boded well at all. At least, for his other self.
It didn't do much damage, but it seemed to leave the shadowling rather disoriented.

Taking a moment to inspect it, apparently Marosa had given it too much time to recover. It leaped away from him to another spot in the room, and he lunged towards it with the staff in an attempt to club it again.
Missed.
Damn it.

Cursing his luck, Marosa launched towards it and swung the staff out, cursing as it jumped over the staff nimbly to laugh at him and skitter towards his bed.
He wanted it gone.

Veering away from the bed, the shadowling spotted something shiny and headed towards it, making Marosa inwardly cringe.
No. Not the picture.
Whipping out his staff, he caught the shadowling just barely and made it tumble, though it didn't seem to be hurt at all.
It resumed its path towards the picture.
No, no, no no no.

How many jacking tries did it take to kill this thing!?
He could tell he was losing it, as he kept missing and missing horribly. His anger was getting the best of him and so help him if that stupid thing got a hold of his most prized possession there would be hell to pay.
