Lillith allowed herself a tiny smile as Mallory seemed to worry about being Lance with even less clothing on, though it did not reach her sadness-filled eyes. She shivered momentarily, and pulled the blanket given to her back up over her, hiding all but her head and her feet beneath it.

Lance smirked playfully. I lent my fashionable vest to Lee, and now I think it is in the wash pile with her sooty clothes. “He predicted and sighed.”It's only a matter of time cutie. Don't worry about it." The man laughed his voice some how sounded less lively than before, like he had a slight cold. He coughed and went to stand up. He was starting to think that we could not wait until bed time. "Please excuse me." He said and gave a jerky bow before walking over to lexi's door and peered in. Nate then came to the door way and followed him out. They walked hand in hand upstairs. Lance fell only once and Nate held him close as they walked the rest of the way up to their room.

Franky ushered her in. "Come, come. Sit, I am guessing Nathan has told you the information I disclosed to him yesterday? You are of the standing I would expect he would." Franky's face was hard, and business was all now.

Lillith nodded her head to Lance as he bowed. After he left, she stood up, wrapping the blanket as tightly as she could and still walk, and headed over to one of the windows. She stared out into the city street, singing with a low whispery voice a sad song that seemed to have no words.

Mallory looked after Lance with some concern, but was satisfied when Nate walked off with him. Mallory stepped up behind Lillith and thought to speak, but he did not really want to interrupt her. She seemed lost within the streets outside the window. "That is a very sad song, mademoiselle." Mallory said finally, though he speaks softly. "I am sorry for your misfortune."

Lillith was started out of her staring when Mallory spoke up, the song suddenly stopping. "It's... it's the only sad song I ever wrote, or sang..." she said, looking at him for a brief moment before going back to stare out the window. "I... I wrote it two years ago... after my fiance died..." she explained. "They... they got him too..."

Mallory frowned and nodded solemnly. "I am sorry. This is all so much harder on you than I at first surmised. Perhaps you would like to rest? If Alexia is still busy, you could rest in my room for a while. I would remain outside to see that you are not disturbed, of course." And so would his father even if Mallory had to drag the man out.

Lillith shook her head. "I don't think I could sleep right now even if I tried... it was so bad... I'd have the smells running through my mind the whole time I tried to sleep." she explained. She still has nightmares about the night her fiance died. The thought of it made her shiver. "Tell me... is there a way to the roof here?" she inquired.

"Oui. Though the door it locks sometimes. Perhaps if I wait inside the door? Avec moi, s'il vous plait." Mallory leads the way up the stairs and opens the door to gesture toward the fire escape. "That will take you to the roof, mademoiselle. I will stay here." Mallory steps out of Lillith's way and holds the door open for her. Perhaps it was better if he left her with her privacy anyway. It seemed she had much on her mind.

She followed him silently up the stairs, stopping only long enough to put one gentle hand on his shoulder. "Thank you..." she whispered before she shut the door behind her as she stepped onto the roof. Even with the doors shut, her clear voice could be heard, the sad song taking notes and words...
"The war rages In my heart and in my city It tears at my soul.
The war rages It took my love and it took my home It tears at my soul.
The war never ends It will destroy us all The war never ends Until we are all dead
The war rages The fires burn and the bodies bleed It tears at my soul.
The war rages It kills the innocent and rapes the land It tears at my soul.
The war never ends It will destroy us all The war never ends Until we are all dead..."
Lillith started sobbing in earnest, unable to finish the song as she fell to her knees, crouched over in a huddle, the last words she can sing gasping from her as she cried, "The... war... never... ends..."

Mallory sat upon the floor and listened silently to Lillith's song. Toward the end, when he could hear the tears in her voice, his heart broke. For the first time in years, he really just wanted to see his father, to have the comfort of his presence. Mallory frowned slightly at that thought. He did not want to even acknowledge the man was his relation, but his father was the only family he really had. And they were barely civil with one another.

After her tears had fled and all she had left were small hiccups, she rose from the where she had fallen to her knees, shivering hard. She turned and walked to the door, knocking on it lightly.

At the knock Mallory rose and opened the door to let Lillith in. He did not say anything to her; there seemed to be nothing he could say.

Lillith walked in off of the rooftop. The blanket proved to be a very poor protection against the cold, as she was shivering so hard her teeth chattered, and she no longer had the strength to speak as she walked down the stairs.

"Is there nothing else I can do for you?" Mallory asked as he trailed Lillith down the stairs. The silence, interrupted only by her chattering teeth, had begun to bother him. He was unused to it. Lillith moved like a ghost, hardly speaking to him and almost seeming to look through him when she looked in his direction at all. He could only assume she was still in shock over being trapped in a burning building.
