As a cub, Reka was kind of chubby. Okay, she was actually fat, which was impressive in a family that valued physical prowess, but Reka valued the delicious taste of food more, and didn't see anything wrong with being on the round side.
Naturally, her family wasn't thrilled by the choices their daughter made, and they took steps to prevent her getting larger. The most annoying of these was that they insisted everyone begin their day by exercising together as a family. Not a huge fan of exercise Reka learned to wake up before dawn to hide from this forced family activity. She got pretty good at hiding, but her family also got pretty good at looking.
Whether or not her family succeeded in finding her and making her exercise varied from day to day, but they knew she would always return by mealtimes, so if they couldn't find her they didn't worry that she was in danger. They just had a stern (but usually ineffectual) lecture about the importance of fitness prepared for when she put in an appearance.
One day, Reka hid by squeezing herself literally between a rock and a hard place. She watched her family walk by her without noticing her and congratulated herself on her cleverness. It wasn't until mealtime came and she was too pudgy to get out of her narrow spot that she began to worry, and then to cry but nobody heard her and nobody came.
Ultimately, she spent two days wedged in that spot before a stranger heard her weakened cries and reached into the crack to drag her out. In the process his claws ended up digging deeply into the side of her neck, causing no serious injury but leaving permanent scars.
