Slipping out of his room, Jakob quietly followed the hall down to the elevator. The hall was empty and mostly quiet. He could hear some muffled conversation behind a couple of doors but did not linger to try and decipher them. Once he reached the elevator he was able to catch one right away. He stepped into the metal box, hitting the button to go down to the first level and stood back as the metal doors slid closed. The ride down was smooth enough and was uninterrupted by parties from other floors.
Jakob exited the box and followed the smell of fresh bacon and coffee. To his delight there were only a couple of people down in the lobby. A couple seated at a table by the window, while a portly man with plate stacked high of eggs and biscuits, stood at one end of the counter drowning them both in sausage gravy. He paid neither much mind as he picked up a paper plate and looked over his options. It wasn't much, but he wasn't about to complain about free food. Moving down the line, he grabbed a blueberry muffin, a scoop of eggs, two pieces of toast, and a cup of coffee as well as a handful of creamers and sugar packets. After stuffing a plastic fork in his pocket, Jakob took his food and headed back to his room.
Once he was upstairs, Jakob set his things on the bed. It hadn't been very long since he put his phone on charge but he couldn't help wanting to check to see if there were any messages. The device read that it was currently at twenty-two percent charged. Not nearly enough to take it off just yet. He stood there switching on the device and waited a moment. Jakob watched as the screen flashed and everything loaded. A part of him hoped to see something, any sign that Kieran had tried to reach out to him. Instead all he had were a few alerts to some apps he rarely used. Sighing, it seemed as though he was going to have to try and reach out first. "Hey" he typed. "How'd you sleep?"

Sending off his text to Kieran, Jakob left his phone alone and turned his attention back to his food. He had no idea if Kieran had any intention of talking to him today. But he supposed it was better to try than not at all. Jakob ate his food and sipped on his coffee while watching television. He took his time, trying not to think too much about what he should do today. It was too early to be this stressed.
When he finished eating, Jakob took his things and tossed them in the trash bin. He still had not heard back from Kieran. He tried not to let it bother him and instead got to work. Bending down, Jakob fished out the large external hard drive as well as his laptop. It took him a couple of minutes to set everything up. It wasn't an ideal work space, but it would have to do for now. Taking a seat in the desk chair, Jakob connected to the hotel's internet. It was slower than he was used to, but enough to at least get him to his favorite corners of the dark web. Already the forums were abuzz with news of Abel's attack. From what he read many suspected that he was dead, while others were talking about wild theories how Abel took out half the block in a blaze of glory. It was all quite laughable had he not been aware of the true situation.
Jakob spent a good chunk of his morning reading post after post about Abel. It was clear how unliked he was even in a world of criminals. However, there was nothing he could find to even suggest anyone there was responsible for had happened. Most of the people commenting seemed more upset that they weren't the ones picked for the job. Though thankfully, no one here seemed to have heard anything about his own name being attached to the job. On the other hand it just made him all the more suspicious. Leaving the forums, Jakob went in search of local news. There were a few dozen articles related to violent crimes, but again, he couldn't find anything related to Abel.
Cornelius must really be keeping tabs on things to keep it this quiet. Like it or not, it seemed as though he was going to have to start talking to some people on his own. But first things first, he wanted to check out Abel's house for himself. Shutting down the computer, Jakob pushed away from the desk and turned to his luggage. He pulled out a pair of dark wash jeans, a plain t-shirt, and a black hoodie. He stripped away the clothes he slept in and swapped them for the ones he'd just picked out. He dressed quickly before turning back to the desk. He didn't exactly trust the hotel, or that no one had been following him. So he had no desire to leave his hard drive and computer out in the open. Taking them both, he stashed them away in the safe provided by the hotel. Jakob then took his now empty backpack and loaded it with a few weapons from his duffle. He didn't think he would need them, but just in case. Taking his phone off the charger, which was now a whooping fifty-four percent charged, along with his keys and wallet, he headed out of the room once more.

Making his way down to the lobby once more, Jakob headed out the front door. He squinted against the harsh morning light and ducked his head as he moved towards a line of waiting cabs. Sure he could have taken the train again, but he was in a hurry. He didn't want Kieran knowing he'd dropped by without anyone's permission. Jakob slipped into the backseat and gave the man the address of a house not too far from where he was going. Jakob sat back as they soon peeled away from the curb and headed out of the parking lot.
The ride from the hotel to the false address was roughly half an hour. He paid the cab driver in cash and stepped out, taking his backpack with him. Swinging the bag over his shoulder, Jakob glanced around the neighborhood. It was quiet and seemed almost normal. He walked towards the direction of the correct house, taking his time as the cab driver made his way out of the neighborhood. Once he was out of sight, he picked up the pace and headed straight for Abel's house.
Unsurprisingly a long strip of police tape hung across the door as a warning for others. Keeping his head down, Jakob looked around his surroundings once more and headed towards the side of the house. Everything seemed to be in order, but he was taking no chances. Jakob headed around back and stepped up towards the door. He was surprised to find it unlocked. Pulling his bag closer, Jakob dug out a black face mask as well as one of his gun. He quickly eased the mask loops over his ears before entering the house. Quiet as he could, Jakob sneaked in and began to take a look around.
