The blue groaned quietly, tripping over his own feet for what seemed like the tenth time while all eyes were on the flirty bronze, his new friend and His friend's attitude. No one saw him get up, waddle a few steps and fall again. This time, he finally keened, eyes whirling as he tried to express his distress. All he wanted to do was find his. Forget flirting. Girls? The blue shuddered a little and fixed his expression on the boys.

Struggling to his feet, the blue lurched forward. He actually made it his best distance yet before tripping over his own feet, landing in a heap. His wings underneath him, the poor creature made a pathetic noise as he tried to work himself free again. Help! Mine? he cried, toppling as soon as he tried to get up again. He sighed and surged up, but did not try to walk any farther.

I am so tired, Mine! Please, Merik, your Hasufeth just wants to eat, the Clydesdale whined, leaning down. He was flustered and embarrassed and he really, really just wanted His.

Pleased at the affirmation that she was right, Arioth decided that Redhath was worth keeping around after all. Is Redhath's a friend? she asked Rinfala, pausing in her feeding--she'd gotten hers before Varth, so she didn't feel the need to gobble quite so quickly now. If Redhath's was not a friend of Hers, then she would change that Right Now.

"Redhath's his name? Yeah, M'al's a friend," Rinfala answered, glancing at the gold curiously. "I um...met him a while ago." So not mentioning Shim yet...she was still trying to figure out how to open that particular can of worms without letting Arioth catch on that she was doing so. "Oh, you're just blowing ash M'al. It takes more than being lazy to make a feline...otherwise we'd all be one already."

Shim? With a mental frown, Arioth prodded Hers for more, but she seemed to have been distracted.

He felt his heart twinge sympathetically at the little blue that seemed to flounder on his own feet. After a few keens and a few distressed whirls of his eyes, he sank down, and made no move to get up again. Goran shifted uncomfortably, his eyes shifting around to the other Candidates with slight concern. Was someone here for him?

There was a brief bit of nagging about starving the bronze made her brows twist up. Wait, the bronze came over here and crooned to her… oops and the girls around her. He couldn’t be *that* hungry if he elected to lounge about. By this time his chosen one had carefully picked his way over to the bronze. She looked up. Well, that solved it now the pair would go off to eat. No, no apparently not. She frowned and stopped stroking the lovely creature’s back and flanks. Really, she had gotten too comfortable…

Weiwin smiled and wished the new Weyrling good luck, then moved away to get a better view of the next impression.

Another impression, without blood, without terror, without excessive angst of any kind sans the dragonet's clumsiness. It was definitely a blessing Canth was thankful for, and applauded for a beat before falling silent more more. Yes, this had to be what impression was supposed to be like: joyous, pleasant, not riddling with bloody maulings...

Now the mood had changed for the most part from horror to glee, she sensed, glancing all around behind her and through the flock of eager peers... but inside, she wasn't sure if she felt it, too.

Maybe it was the fact that every bond she witnessed just reminded her of how she hadn't really come here for the same. The Weyr was a new road, but did she intend to walk it towards a dragon? Was she even meant to be a rider, or was it just an excuse, being here, to get away from the old surroundings?

... She grimaced slightly. It left a bad taste in her mouth, and she didn't even know why exactly. It just didn't really seem like there was anything here for her-- but was that was they all felt until their special partners were born?

Denik couldn't help but grin at the antics of the newest hatchlings. They were like a breath of fresh air from the first few. I think this is a good sign now.

After watching the dragonets find their partners, he glanced around the sands. Were any more eggs shaking yet?

Merik's clapping slowed to stop, and he looked around himself curiously. Did he just hear something? Raedue was watching the Blue, and Zafir wasn't looking him either. It hadn't sounded like either of them. Actually, it sounded sort of like it was in his head. Was-?
I am so tired, Mine! He started breathing very heavily, all of the sudden feeling light-headed. It couldn't be. He was going crazy, all this heat, and he was so tired, and- Please, Merik, your Hasufeth just wants to eat.
No mistaking it.

Merik wiped sweaty hair out of his face, not even thinking before darting out into the sands on legs that had turned to jelly without warning. He fell to his knees next to the blue, picking it up by the shoulders in a huge embrace. The Hatchling gave an awkward little squeak, but Merik- M'rik, now- squeezed harder, arms shaking. He really doubted he could've stood just then if he wanted to. Mine? I'm hungry, please. "Of... of course. Of course!" He was still dizzy with excitement, but M'rik's shock dissipated as quickly as it had struck him. It took a bit of heaving, but he lifted Hasufeth right out of the sand and hobbled him over to the feeding tables, beaming and glowing and grinning like a new mother. He couldn't think straight- didn't dare. He knew with rock-solidity that this gorgeous boy was his. His! But he still wouldn't try and believe his luck. Everything felt like it could vanish as quickly as it had come.

He set Hasufeth down gently by the feeding table, grabbing the biggest slice he could see and plopping down in the sand at eye-height with his bonded. The Blue ate it slowly, eyes whirling from red into a blue as cool as his hide. M'rik didn't even want to take his eyes away. Bah to that Bronze- this was his Hasufeth! You are mine too, Mine, but I would like more please.

Raedue grinned, happy for his friend. He watched as the two bonded then turned his eyes back towards the rest of the eggs. Maybe one of them would be his? Then he too could be a rider. He hoped so. He really did. He was getting so swept up in the dream of being a rider.

Veyes was happy that the blue had found his partner soon because the dragon sure looked like he needed a bit of help...and comfort. Maybe the worse was over and the rest of the clutch would be as easy as these last two but getting to cozy with that thought would be pressing what little luck he had. It seemed as if things were going by a bit quicker now and Veyes didn't know if he should be happy or disappointed by it. Several of the eggs were hatched with only half to go and still...the right one hadn't come along. Or well, it had for others...but not for him at least not yet.

Glancing around as the blue and his rider moved away, he tried to see if he could find L'thor in the stands or Ren somewhere on the sands but didn't have a clue where to look so his search was short lived. Soon he was staring back at the eggs again, remaining confident that if his wasn't in this clutch...there would be others clutches of eggs.

Ducking his head a bit to hide the brief frown, Selachii cheered again when it seemed the big blue had made his Impression. Privately, he was wishing the clumsy blue good luck -- poor creature.

It felt like missing out again. He could watch it all from where he stood, but Tideal wasn't much pleased at the moment. Nonetheless his mind was a determined blankness. If he let himself get jittery and anxious like the last two times he was bound to be doubly irked should he walk away alone for a third time. Tideal was getting more than angry about the let downs. He watched mildly at the sparring pair that fought violently over the spotlight, hiddenly amused but worried. It was as the handsome bronze impressed that his heart sank sadly. It was difficult for one of his temper to be anything resembling happy when he wished so feverishly for a bronze.

Shards that blue was handsome. The gold would still make him laugh later. Tideal looked around as the next egg began its own process of hatching. The downtrodden and cranky candidate wondered how many times others among him had stood at these sands, swearing he'd set some sort of record. It was mostly his pride being hurt. He knew he was being whiny and just failed at clearing his head. Tideal didn't care though and returned to waiting on the coming eggs.

Miss Cherie
They were better than the rest. That was a given. Kagiya had known that she was better than the rest, but only now had Dolmin risen to her standards of best. They could be friends now. ... They were friends. "Bet they woulda! That's 'cause they're wherries an' scared, an'... we're better," she asserted smugly. Good. She needed a friend who was as good as she was. ... Almost as good. It was hard to meet Giya's exacting standards, but maybe he'd prove it over time. "They didn't come, so they're gonna miss out. But we don't we know they've gots a Blue an' a Green."

And that the little Queen, Brown, and other Blue had Impressed, too. They'd seen the blood, and they'd heard the screams. Was there nothing that they had not seen? Their parents might not approve, but that didn't matter so long as they had the inside information. "D'you think they'll Impress fast?" she asked Dolmin, nudging her friend curiously. She wasn't too scared now, not that she had found her courage. It seemed like he wasn't either. Good.

Dolmin had made an indistinct noise, caught up in watching the dragons as they hatched, each by each, and sought out their owners. He breathed lightly, eyes flickering from point to point, excited and dreading every new development. Every time another egg cracked, he flinched a little, expecting the worst - a new draconian hellion to break free and begin a new bloodbath.

But it wasn't happening. These dragons were all so much calmer, more cool-headed and friendly. Just look at that big bronze, getting coddled over by the girl Candidates! This was more what he'd expected from a Hatching. Peaceful, light-hearted, touching. Why, he wondered, were the first ones to hatch all so mean and scary? And these later ones were nicer....

"... When I'm out to Impress," he told Kagiya quietly, imparting on her his sage observations, "I'm gonna wait 'til the first ones have all hatched and gone on their way, then I'll move up front. That way, all the mean ones are gone."

Shards, he was late! He'd thrown his Candidate robes on as fast as he could and was shoving his sandals on his feet while hopping out the door and ran as fast as he could towards the Sands.

It didn't take long to reach, especially with his speed, but he gave a quick bow to the Queen before rushing over to the group of boys. Oh well, at least he wasn't too late.

As the first eggs hatched he winced slightly and was very glad that he was in the very back of the group. That way he wouldn't get mauled! Or, at least, his chances of getting mauled were much less than those in the front, and that was how he liked it. Even if he could hardly see the dragonets hatching, he could figure out their behavior and color from the crowd and from his peers. Their gasps and cries of colors were rather helpful.

Attending a Hatching should be easy. It was a time to celebrate! Make merry! Show support for all the Candidates, and maybe scout out a few more members for the ILA!

But for some reason, O'asis couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding. He'd done very well so far, he thought, not to get involved with the disastrous actions of one of his friends. Given that the injured party was his benefactor, it only seemed like the right way to go about things. So he'd done his best to plug his ears and stay single-minded in his business, looking after Uktenath (and now Argent as well!) and minding his own affairs - but to come to the Hatching, ah, now that was just asking to be stuck in the middle of something he didn't want any part of.

But Uktenath wouldn't hear of it. And so the bronze had effectively kicked him out of his own weyr, threatening to do unspeakable things to his belongings if he didn't get his reluctant butt to the Bowl and show his support.

Of course, even before he got there, he knew that every little nightmare he'd had about this day had come true. What Weyrfolk weren't at the Hatching already were abuzz with rumor - so many maulings! The little queen, so angry, and that brown...!

So he'd found a small excuse to dawdle, having a pep talk with the ladies preparing for the Hatching feast after.

But then was Uktenath in his mind, unamused - and a flash of one of his finest shirts, soon to be shredded beneath dragon claws. I'll do it, Mine. You know that I will.

O'asis swallowed. The little bronze wasn't bluffing. So he plucked up his courage, recited mentally his excuses for coming late, and trudged his way to the Stands.

Of course, the moment he arrived, all reluctance had faded. All confident grins and infectious laughs and easy jokes from O'asis, as should be expected! He found S'van quickly in the crowd, and made his way over to elbow his way into a seat by his friend. "Didn't miss too much, did I?" he questioned merrily.

((I'm late. >: Congratulations to all the newly Impressed~!))

Darcir found the entire hatching chaos. Absolute and pure chaos. Classes had taught him what to expect and ingrained a little bit of common sense; sense that some of the Candidates seemed to lack. One of the first rules was to always get out of the dragonets way. . . and with the explosive hatching of the queen and brown, somewhere the long haired candidate had wondered what made jolting to one side so difficult!

Yes, there was a seemingly sea of white-robed people littering the Sands but that was no excuse. And with the hisses and snarls of that brown and queen, it was obvious they were less than pleasant individuals. (Also, it was much easier to judge from a distance than to be up and amongst the fray. . .) Whatever the reason, Darcir was both appalled and disgusted by the violence displayed. He had remembered that the dragonets were prone to aggression as they sought out theirs, but this didn't seem like confusion. . . these attacks seemed most deliberate!

It was difficult to see everything that was happening. Darcir hadn't felt the need to push and press his way to the front of the white-robed crowds; if a dragon was indeed meant for him, then he would be sought out. The creatures didn't choose theirs based on appearances or first-glances. . . In fact, Darcir had found that no one really understood what a dragon looked for or how they understood who theirs might be. It just . . . happened. Perhaps that was part of the amazement of Impression. . . .The dragon riders he had met had told him that it was quite an amazing experience.

From the looks of the terrified and bloodied candidates before him though, the amazement appeared to be lacking.

Darcir was doing his best to keep his composure. He didn't look in to the stands, certain that his family had come to witness his Impression of some bronze of some sort. Strange that this one event might change the course of his life . . . stranger still that money and rank and power meant nothing. With so many candidates and so few eggs, there was a huge chance that he would be left standing. It took some turns before finding their lifemate and even worse, some never did. . . Just because one was searched didn't mean a thing. How many workers were ex-candidates invited to stay. . .?

Negative thoughts. . .
Some mentioned that such thinking would drive a dragonet away, but in his confusion and amongst the heat of the sands, Darcir wasn't entirely sure what to think. It was hard to stay positive in such chaos. . . and the knowledge that he might be setting himself up for failure was stifling. He wasn't supposed to fail. . . Pride didn't allow for it and worse, he could only hope he'd find a niche within the Weyr itself. There would be other hatchings. . . but not every candidate was invited to stay. Some were sent back to their holds until the next hatching but what awaited him there was something more terrifying than the queen dragonet itself. . .

But once again, negativity. Always negativity. Maybe he was more brooding and negative than he'd imagined. . . mostly he just thought himself as introverted, over-analytical and shy but . . . . Oh, why were his thoughts plaguing him now~!? There were matters to attend, duties. Fears were not to be recognized, he had to do something. . . anything. Focus on the eggs, focus on the dragonets . . . This was their show, not his.

The queen and brown were finally paired off, though he didn't give either a second glance. Other eggs hatched and spilled their contents; though some were ungainly and ungraceful (it amazed him such creatures became the elegant and revered adults). Thankfully none matched the aggression of the gold and brown. . . . Not really, at any rate.

Stepping from foot to foot, trying not to look uncomfortable despite the sweat that dripped from his brow, Darcir was at a loss. So many candidates. . . Balin and Merik were both out and about, he caught sight of. Though he hadn't roomed with them long, they were his closest friends (and a shame he hadn't been graced time enough to better open up.) Though he was still a bit uppity and quiet, sleeping on the floor had been an experience and test in swallowing his pride. Furthermore, though Balin was a mystery, he HAD tried to befriend Merik. . . . .Though his friendliness confused him, over the past few days he was beginning to pick up cues and attempted to be more social. Especially since all the other faces and candidates were strangers!

Why was everything at the Weyr so sharding overwhelming?

And even now, his thoughts were going back to negativity. . . . Stop it. Stop it, stop it. . . Focus. Jaw stiff and body tense, Darcir could only watch as the various eggs spilled their contents. He tried to keep an eye on the other eggs but when a particular bald head was paired off with a bronze, Darcir couldn't help but feel it. Balin, his own quiet and reserved roomate, had found his partner in a bronze. . . and a lovely shaded beast at that. That was something he could appreciate, the beauty of the dragonet and even a twinge of pride. . . .alongside jealousy.

What did he say. . ? What did he do . . . ? He offered a nod and some appreciative claps, not exactly the cheering sort. At least that meant he was back to two beds. . . . Until another candidate or two were shoved in their rooms. So it was just Merik and him now. . . Well, there were worse options. Darcir liked the beastcrafter, his openness and friendly nature both fascinating and confusing. . . . the drak haired man just had an awful time expressing such things. Every time he felt like conversing or opening up, he heard his father reminding him sternly and stiffly that he was being nothing but a waste of breath and time. And so he kept quiet and reserved, unable to argue such a thing.

But now, assuming neither Merik or he Impressed, perhaps he'd give another effort at---

Hazel eyes went a bit wide with surprise as shortly thereafter, a blue chose Merik as his own. A large blue, a striking blue. And now he was, once again, very much alone. His candidate roomates were now weyrlings; they had found their mates and now had a new future, a new life. . . Though he had judged them the dragonets had found in them something that set them apart. Oh Faranth. . . . .

Glancing away from Merik, even though he did offer his roomate what he hoped was some sort of encouraging smile (it felt strange and forced) he swiftly looked over to the nearest egg closest to him. Whatever it was. . . . New candidates in his room meant new personalities to try to relate to, new habits to try to understand. Just when he was finally settling in with Merik and Balin, they were gone. . . and no amount of regret or pleading would change that.

Ugh. . . . More with the negativity~! No wonder dragons had yet to find him appealing. He really was a moping cloud and desperation and fear and shyness only caused him more panic. Honestly, Darcir wasn't comfortable with great change (his life having been strict and full of order and repetition) . . . so to have the few faces he knew well (or at least better than anyone else in the Weyr) leave him to Candidacy alone. . . well. . . it wasn't settling well.

But there were still eggs left and a dragon just might find him worthy. Flipping back some of his hair, he self-consciously drew himself over to a less crowded area on the Sands. Faranth only knew what his parents might think, but perhaps they had already lost him in the crowd.
