He laughed, he couldn't help it. It was just the way she replied. He wasn't laughing at her though. He would never do such a thing. That would be cruel.

"No, its just the many mares that I have met they always speak of settling down having foals. Where is my prince charming...blah blah." he rolled his eyes. "Though I was quite suprised when a mare said she was mated, but could make an exception for me. I was offended and felt sorry for the male, but meh." he blew his bangs from his face as he watched her. "I had a mate...but things changed and I ended up here some how." he shrugged. His energized face seemed to fade slightly. Adonis could say he was enjoying the conversation thus far.

However little did Adonis know that the hot tempered Ares was on his way to find Sparkles, to discuss his feelings for her. Yes, Cynara had to have a talk with him. Telling him these feelings he was bottling up wouldn't go away unless he expressed them. His attentions were good, but soon to go bad once he found his flirtacious new room mate with the female he had a crush on.

Foals, already?

Sparkles wasn't entirely certain she wanted to sacrifice her figure just yet. It was true that she ultimately desired children but to give up her looks for such an extended period of time was something she would have to prepare for. This by no means meant she would consider herself ugly as a pregnant mare but it would certainly take a little bit of creativity to make the round and swollen bump of her abdomen work to her advantage!

"Some mares are only bonded to their mates in the slightest of fashions, some are unhappy...Exceptions can be made depending on the circumstances I suppose," Sparkles mused thoughtfully, tail unfurling from her leg to sway back and forth in quiet consideration of the puzzle that had been presented to her. No doubt his words had not been meant to cause such thoughts but she wasn't exactly normal and she rarely conformed to the usual etiquette.

"Everyone has their Prince Charming somewhere, but to blindly rush into it is foolish - " eh, she would be the first to admit that was the truth. Once the hopeless romantic she had learnt the hard way that people who claimed they were princes, rarely were. "But I am sorry to here of your loss, it is most unfortunate."

Adonis nodded his head, "Though if they are unhappy why put themselves under such a situation?" he asked with the tilt of his head. His ears flickered back at the slightest of sounds. The arch of his neck turned to see what it was...and this his eyes widened in suprise. "Ares?"

Silently he had flown and silently he had landed, twas to be a suprise and now it seemed a spy? Ebony wings furled as cold blue eyes narrowed. He was confused, what was that man whore doing out here? He huffed as he dropped a bundle of flowers for the intended Sparkles. Pink blossoms among there stems for her, but he was confused now on to why she'd be with Adonis. He shook his head at Adonis, he didn't know what to say...exactly. They were so close, an inch a part maybe he could feel that pit of anger rise again.

"That rare sense of security," Sparkles replied to Adonis' question. She couldn't answer it from personal experience but one of her closest friends had very nearly suffered such a fate. In the end her friend, Ashura, had resigned herself to such a life with the excuse that it would provide her with security...Sparkles was exceptionally pleased that her brother hadn't agreed quite so easily to the orders of a failing herd.

"Some soquili dearly desire it, regardless of who they are paired with," she added after a few moments before canting her head to the side. She hadn't heard the sounds, they'd been ever so quiet and yet as the familiar stallion appeared from the trees her expression brightened considerably. Oho it was her favourite grumpy stallion!

...And as usual he looked disgruntled.

"Ah, smile Ares it is a lovely day," she cooed, bridging the gap between the newly arrived stallion and herself. It wasn't a lack of manners that made her turn her back on Adonis but it was always polite to greet a new entry. Surely he would understand that? Pausing, she lowered her head to pick up the flowers and flashed a rather odd smile between her teeth.

"And I don't think the flowers appreciate being handled so roughly," she teased in a muffled voice. "But...you two know each other?"

Ares watched as she left Adonis and came to him, a mockery. Yet she still picked up the flowers, most likely because she liked pink. Oh how is mind swirled with assumptions.

Indeed Adonis had no disagreements about her leaving his side, but he did have some about Ares' temper...he had already recieved some on his coming here.

Ares looked down at a flower she had missed, one with no petals, scarred and imperfect. In the mist he could visualie himself as that flower. Unwanted. His brows furrowed as he looked up to Adonis, stepping forward, "It seems that a warrior could never compete with an aristocratic charlatan in the aristocrat's terrain, though on the battlefield the aristocrat should surely fall."

As Adonis was about to speak Ares interupted, "I knew I shouldn't have trusted you," he spat. "Now tell me which way it is again, it is to a mare's heart? Or is it steal it." He looked to Sparks, a weakness shown bright in his eyes before it turned to anger. His ears flared as he spread his black wings and took off just as silent as he came, as if a ghost had appeared and gone.

Of course she hadn't meant to leave one of the flowers behind, given her peripheral vision she simply couldn't see it but unfortunately it wasn't her day. Ares and his stubborn and brash nature had already ensured his assumptions were made and she was left standing in a mass of confusion as he dismissed himself on the most bitter terms. He was not happy and she couldn't for the love of her understand why!

Steal a mare's heart?

Clearly she had missed something as she set the flowers down again and turned her attention back to Adonis. Given that Ares had left so abruptly he was the only one who could even offer a suitable explanation for the odd behaviour she had just encountered. Tilting her head to the side, her expression became inquisitive and she released a delicate sigh, "Asking if you have met would prove futile as the question has already been answered..." she observed.

"But might I enquire as to why he views you as an enemy?"

Adonis nodded, "We live together...at the teepee." his brows knitted as he looked to her and then smiled softly. "He was speaking of a conversation I had with him...but anyways. You're the one he speaks of then, I assume?" she had to been. If he ever talked that much it was of the mare with the otter friend. "Your the mare who lost her otter?"

If it was her, she knew what he was talking about.

He looked to the flowers, poor Ares he was trying so hard not to be cold hearted. Oh well, not hard enough. He shrugged to himself as he looked to the female.

Ah, one of those teepees...She had no idea what those were given her nomadic nature but she had heard stories. Oddly shaped trees that humans lived in, her friend Ashura had often explained that the humans resembled squirrels running in and out of the tree knots. It really was a strange mental image but all the same this was the best level of understanding this particular mare had on the subject.

Nevertheless, as he mentioned her otter she did furrow her brow just a little. Now there was a thought, her companion had scuttled off again for one reason or another and she was once again alone but she hadn't even noticed! Ah, things certainly were changing and it seemed the Kawani lands simply sped that process up.

"Ah...yes," she mused after a few moments and offered a bemused smile. "He appears to have disappeared again," she confessed, shaking her head lightly as she turned her gaze in the direction Ares had stormed off. "But what does he mean by stealing a mare's heart? You were only speaking to me!" She wasn't innocent, but any advance he had made hadn't been seen simply because her mind had been locked onto that certain gloomy male who had completely lost his rag at something so small.

"Do you think I should go after him?"

...It wasn't as though she even knew where he was.

Adonis looked to her, "Just a talk we had one night...when he was starting to like me. I just have a reputation, that not many approve of." he replied simply as he looked to her.

"No, not now. He probably needs to let off some steam first...then maybe." he looked to her without the charming smile and just plain Adonis...which was hard for him to do. "It may seem hard to believe but I think Ares has affections for you. He seemed to be losing his mind on whether to come see you or such nonsense. But, its hard for him because he's never truly felt the way that he is right now. He can't comprehend it." he watched her. "In my opinnion." he added.

Well that made the two of them. She was well aware that she had taken part in things that she wasn't proud of. She did them out of necessity though, she wasn't sure if Adonis could claim such things but she could on a personal level. Her mother had been right, had taught her how to survive though every other mare she would meet would probably be appalled by the techniques - by the spirits, her father would probably be horrified if he knew the truth too.

"Well, some might say you have to be in another person's hoof steps before you can judge them," she murmured after a few moments of consideration. So he had done things, he had a reputation but she wasn't aware of the circumstances behind this reputation so she couldn't make any real comment. Correct?

Nevertheless, as he made mention of Ares' inclinations towards her it did cause her eyes to lift and she stared at him in a rather abrupt manner. The grumpy stallion liked her? But this was most peculiar, she'd never given him anything to like...she hadn't even let him lay with her properly.

Now she was confused.

"But if he felt that way then why did he run away? How was I meant to know...?"

Adonis shrugged his shoulders as he flipped his bangs from his face, again. "I suppose he planned on staying and talking to you...my being here probably was just the wrong place at the wrong time kind of thing." his pink pupils watched her carefully. She seemed suprised, he was suprised. He didn't think that ghost of a stallion could ever like anyone. "I don't think you were supposed to know, till he told you or was going to." he looked to the pale flowers. "He just as an odd way about doing things."

Well that was the understatement of the year, thrusting flowers against the ground and storming off was hardly the most appropriate way of gaining the affections of a mare. To be honest, Sparkles was beyond confused. She'd never been in such a position before and therefore, the flowers and his behaviour simply caused her to be more distressed than happy that a male could like her for who she was and not what she had offered to give him...

Now another male was telling to leave him alone.

Argh!

"Well, what exactly do I do now?" Her mother had never taught her this and her father, well he had never believed that his little girl would grow up. It wasn't his fault but leaving her mother to teach her anything was probably unwise. Now, the mare was a little girl again and completely out of her comfort zone without any type of support.

"What do you think you should do?" he asked. He let his tail flow behind him, he was no expert in love just lust. This was new to him. He rose his brow at her for a moment. "Even if you do not think of Ares in such a way, you could still be his friend." he shrugged. "It's up to you to decide what you want, not anyone else. You have your own mind, I believe that one with your standards could make your own decisions?" he asked. He was attempting to be helpful.

She didn't know, she was at a loss.

Instead of answering Adonis' question she opted to play the same card as her father, she simply followed her feet. Her hooves acted as though they had a mind of their own and with a small, cat like sniff she found herself drifting away from the vicinity and into the forest to trail after the stallion who had decided to storm off in a jealous rage.

In all honesty she didn't even know how to approach him but something deep inside encouraged her to push forward. Maybe a smile would make him feel better, she didn't know but then again she wasn't even sure where he had landed...or if he had even landed at all. And so, it was with so much uncertainty running through her mind that she left Adonis in her wake and went to discover where he disgruntled 'friend' had stormed off to.

Ares was in a small grove with his head against the tree as if he were head butting it. The wisted cobwebs in his head seemed to come back and he was lost within them. He felt like taking Adonis out, but he knew it wasn't his fault. Adonis was Adonis and he was appealing to the females. He shuffled his ebony wings as he lay their in thought and listened to the rustling of the wind through the trees, he was by far calm but it was soothing.
