Cade was sitting downstairs in the storefront, a coffee in one hand and the paper in the other. His eyes lifted to watch Leo do his cleaning, but he said nothing. After a time Cade gave a yawn and rose. He looked at Leo with a soft smile then departed into the back. Almost an hour and half later, he came back with an apron at his waist and one in hand. Cade slipped the apron onto Leo and ran his fingers through his hair. "You've got to pull this stuff back first." Cade quickly parted up Leo's hair and pulled it back into a tight French braid. once the hair was braided, Cade led Leo to the register. "This is the cash register. Since Mama seems to have not risen yet, we'll begin your training on the cash register. I'll leave the baking to Rose and Mama since I seem to have no ability to cook." Cade smiled as he mimicked Rowan's tone.

Cade spent and hour showing Leo all the buttons and functions the register had. He explained how to add tax and subtract discounts as well as how to spot counterfeit coin. Once Cade had gone over all the parts, twice, and quizzed Leo on the basics, he glanced at the clock. he heard a crash from the back room and smiled. Cade looked at the oven behind him and opened it. Mama came waddling through the door with a push cart with trays of muffins and sweet rolls. Cade placed the muffins and rolls into the font oven with a smile. Mama shook her head. "Where is that blasted gal? She's supposed to be here with me helping me get ready for opening." Cade shrugged, a sly smile playing quickly over his lips. "Not sure where she went Mama Cleo, but she'll be back for opening."

Rowan wiggled his toes in the soft sand with a smile. He was sitting at the water's edge and inhaling the salty breeze. The zephyr blew the red curls beneath the sunlight and the freckles stood out against the pale skin. He was staring out at the vast ocean that sat before him and a sad smile came to his lips. "......you still here Memmi....waiting on me...I'm all grown up now Memmi...you don't have to linger here anymore....I'm big and strong now....I can protect myself...." The wind blew strongly, casting sea spray against his cheeks. Rowan hugged his knees tightly and smiled into the sky. The blinding light across the water made Rowan smile wider, not realizing the tears that ran down his cheeks. "You don't have to wait any longer Memmi! Go be with mother! I'm okay now!" Rowan got up and ran into the water until he was knee deep in it. his eyes turned heaveward he smiled and twirled, letting the water splash onto him. "...I'm okay now Memmi....you can be free...you don't have to watch over me..."

Leo smiled as he was taught how to do the cash register, his mind able to do the math easily. "I-before i was taken, my mother taught me a lot of things. I think math was my favorite subject." he said in explination, but then Mama Cleo was walking out and he bowed his head to her. "Good morning Madam Cleo" he said formally. he helped Cade put the thinks in the oven and closed it when they were all inside. "Forgive me, Madam, but i think Rose is at the ocean. she was staring at it last night, and i had the feeling that she might have wanted to visit it." he looked down, "i-i think she might have been able to...let go of some things and will be back soon." he wasn't sure if he would be in trouble for being the one responcible for Rowan not being there, but he didn't think he would mind very much if he was.

Rowan danced in the water until the sun was spilling across the beach. As he danced in the water, some kids from the area had come out to surf. They stopped as they watched the male dance in the water. They called out to him and Rowan ran over to them. The guys flirted slightly with Rowan who flirted back. After a couple of hours of watching the guys surf in the ocean, Rowan got up and started to leave. The group called Rowan back, beginning him to stay and hang some more, but Rowan declined since he had work to do. They asked where he was going and he smiled, explaining where the bakery was. The group promised to come by later and Rowan said his goodbyes.

The bakery was well into its day. Customers were rolling in and the treats were rolling out. Cade was quickly serving plates to tables and clear away trays. The woman gave Cade wide smiles and giggles as he walked around. The back door opened and Rowan swished out, hair pinned back with a few stray curls around his cheeks. He carried a fresh tray of baked sweets and his skirt brushed his ankles and exposed his shoeless feet. The eyes fell upon the lithe male as the tank top hugged his body and the bandages that gave him a slight bump to his normally flat chest. Cade cut Rowan a curious glance, but Rowan only gave a gentle smile back.

Leo had taken to serving like fish to water and was enjoying himself fully, going from table to table and helping everywhere he could. he ran the cash register most often, but at times woul go up to the small piano and play soft songs in the background. he smiled widely at Rowan when the other returned and gave him a swift kiss on the cheek, "hope you enjoyed the ocean my friend" he said softly before getting back to work. he was wearing a long pure white dress with frills and such the flowed with him as he moved. it fluttered slightly when the door opened or a small breeze drifted in from the windows, along with his hair, making him almost look like he was underwater with everything drifting in the current

Rowan smiled widely, stepped with a twirl throughout the room. The door opened suddenly and a group of surfers came in. They left their boards outside, but they all filled in laughing and smiling. Rowan smiled widely and waved at them. One came over and gave the male a gentle kiss to the cheek. Rowan showed them to a table and handed them the small menus of treats. The group smiled and laughed amongst themselves. They often called Rowan over just to chat. Rowan would stop by for a few moments then dart back into work. His 'admirers' would smile the moment he walked away.

Cade sent Rowan into the back to work for a little while, hoping to get the surfers to leave. After ten minutes, the surfers left; however they left a note addressed to Rowan on the table. When Rowan came back to clear the table, he smiled and slipped the note into his top. Cade eyed him again, but Rowan ignored the glances.

At late afternoon, during the slow time, Rowan bumped his hip against Leo's and smiled. He was slight in skin tone from being in the sun during the early day, but he was otherwise glowing with health. "Hey, buddy. How was the first day?"

Leo smiled widely, "I had a lot of fun. you get to meet a lot of people and they are so nice" his eyes were wide with awe. "you had quite the gathering of fans there" he teased, nodding to where the surfers had sat, "i think Cade got a little jealous!" he laughed softly and finished cleaning the table he'd been working on. "i hope i'm doing everything right, though. i don't want to be a bother-"

Rowan smiled. "That's good to hear. The people here tend to be nice. Of course we the occasional creeper, but Cade normally escorts them out. Once, some guy came in here, a real pervert, and Cade had gone off on an errand. I was the only one there and he was being totally disgusting, so this nice man got up from his table and asked the man to leave. When the man creep didn't, the man lifted him and tossed him out on the street. I gave that man a muffin on the house. He smiled and thanked me. He's a regular on Fridays right before the dinner rush."

Rowan smiled as he thought of the surfer. "Met them this morning at the beach. They offered to teach me, but I told them i couldn't. I'm going on Saturday to get them to teach me the basics. The blond one is a sweetheart. Can you tell his left eye's a fake?" Rowan shook his head and sighed. "Such a pretty boy wasn't he?" Rowan wiped off the counter and moved have the cash from the register to the beneath the counter. A few customers strolled in and ordered things to go. Rowan gave his wide smile and offered up other treat ideas. The people, seeming to be entranced by Rowan's glowing happiness, ended up buying more than they had planned on. Rowan bubbled with happiness. "I haven't felt so good in such a long time! What was in those drinks last night? I'm just so...excited!" Rowan twirled in front of the counter, the skirt billowing out around him.

"It's great to see you so happy and bubbly again." Rowan turned around and smiled widely. "Lulu!" Lucian was standing in the doorway, a hat pulled low across his face. "The one and only." Rowan grabbed his hand and drug him inside. Lucian titled his hat back so he could get a look at Leo. "My, my, my, I've only been gone a single day and it looks like you've aged for months but you've only gotten prettier." Lucian cupped Leo's face in his palms and kissed his lips gently. "How I've missed you."

Leo had frozen when he saw Lucian standing in the doorway, but the man's kiss thawed him. "Lucian-sama" he sighed softly and melted against the man. his hands were trapped between them because they were gripping Lucian's coat and he couldn't seem to let go. his head was tucked under Lucian's chin and his eyes closed as he breathed in his scent. "and I you, Lucian-sama." he added softly, feeling at peace with him here. "have you been well?"

Lucian sighed. "Aye, as well as any prisoner can be. Father has me on constant watch. I can't even go to the bathroom without that man trying to track it. Then the man has the audacity to try and tell me this morning that I was going to the islands to visit his uncle. I told him I'd walk to the moon first." Lucian chuckled, his fingertips steadily caressing Leo's cheek. "Had this been a month ago, I'd have gone without a complaint, but I cannot leave you here alone. Not in this city."

Mama Cleo waddled into the front of the shop and smiled. "Aye, meh baby Lulu is back! How are ye child?" Lucian smiled. "As well as a caged bird can be, but they can't stop me from singing." Mama smiled. "Always been the poetic type. What can I get the Prince this evening?" Lucian tapped his finger to his chin then kissed Leo on the lips quickly. A smile of success spread across his face. "I think that was all the sweet I can handle in one day. I only came by to say hello. I have to get back and get dressed for the big gathering my father is hosting to welcome me home. It's gonna be odd how I'm going to spend the night in my chambers, seeing as he's inviting the princess over who he wishes me to marry. I've told him three times already that I will not entertain her nor will I have anything to do with her. He tells me I'll have to see my future bride and I tell him I do when I day dream when he's going on about nonsense. He looks at me funny every time." Lucian smiled and gripped Leo's hands in his.

Leo felt a stab of pain at the mention of the princess that Lucian's father wanted him to marry. Lucian was a prince and shoul marry a princess, it was only right. he should have a mess of babies underfoot to carry on the royal line. he should waste his heart on a nothing beantian like himself. Leo knew all of this and still it hurt to think of Lucian with someone other than himself. he held onto the other's hand as gently as Lucian held his, but inside he was knoted up and tence. "Lucian-sama" he said softly, "forgive me, but would it not be best to comply with your father's wishes? a princess would be worthy of your status and she will be able to birth you an heir." and this is how you cut your heart to tiny little pieces he thought to himself. "even if she is-undesirable, it would bring the kingdom peace to know that the moarchy is stable, and after the first child is borth you need not force yourself to spend any more time with her allowing you both a chanse to find lovers who are more to your personal preferance."

Cade had stopped in mid-step as Leo spoke. His mouth fell agape and his expression was shock. Mama Cleo coughed a few times, trying to bring back up and exhale the words she'd just heard. Lucian's face paled and pain glittered across his eyes. "W-What are you saying to me Lily..." His hand tightened around Leo's. "Are you breaking up with me...?"

Rowan dropped a tray that she was holding. The entire room jumped and Rowan quickly tried to pick everything up. Cade tried to shoo Rowan away, but she couldn't regroup herself. "Lily are you mad?!" she cried out. "Why would you tell him to leave you!? Regardless of whats better for this kingdom! Screw the kingdom, what has it done for you? Take its most prized offering and run with it! Why would you turn away your only chance to be free from it all?!" Cade placed his hand over Rowan's mouth. "Enough Rosemarie! This has nothing to do with you!" Cade turned her and sent her into the back room, quickly following her to keep her back there. Mama Cleo clicked her tongue. "Mmmm, child, I don't know what to tell ye. You've got some hard choices to make 'n' none of them will be easy. Ye heart first or ye mind first, which one to follow. Gots' ta' pick one or the other." Mama took her large self and waddle into the back to prepare tomorrows things. That left Lucian and Leo alone. Lucian was still staring deeply into Leo's eyes, hurt still there. "Why would you say that to me...."he whispered,"why would you tell me to leave you....and rip my heart out like that..."

Leo clutched his hands in front of him. "it's-It's not easy for me either, Lucian-sama. but if you want to create a kingdom where you and i-where you and i can live together freely then you have to start acting like a King." he was shaking with supressed emotions and had to drop his eyes from Lucian's gaze to hide the pain in his eyes. "maybe, this princess will understand. maybe she too has someone she would rather be with, but cannot because of who her parents are. speak with her, see if you both can come to an understanding. if you marry her and give the kingdom an heir then a lot of pressure will be taken from yourself and her as well. after that you and i can be together." he waned Lucian to understand. "i can wait, Lucian-sama. i will remain here while you go and build the kingdom that will allow us to be together, but until then i cannot allow myself to come in the way of the people." he took a step back and bowed low, "if you hate me for this i am sorry, lucian-sama, and i will gladly accept any punishment you feel i may deserve, but my opinon will not change." he smiled lightly, "the bentian Lily would never have dared speak so-but the boy" his voice shook, but he stood up straight and looked Lucian in the eyes, taking faith that they were alone and couldn't be over heard since he was speaking softly. "Leonard Failtin of the Lorian Forest believes this is the right action."

Lucian's heart broke. He could feel that rush of numbness cooing to him from the back of his mind, that familiar nothingness that had owned him for many years at a time. "But...but why.." was all he could croak out as the pain closed his throat. It was beyond painful to hear it, and even more so to know it was truth.

Cade was holding Rowan's mouth shut from behind the door. The male's little body was thrashing and shaking in the bigger male's arms, tears streaming down his face. Cade sighed and shook his head. "The poor fools....."

Lucian let go of Leo's hands, letting the fingers slip from between his own and he stepped back. He felt the tears in his eyes and how badly they burned. Lucian wanted to smack that smile off Leo's face and knock his proud eyes back to the floor, but that was just the anger he was feeling. He knew tomorrow he'd be proud for the male's ability to stand up and be strong, but for now he was hurt. Every inch of his body was drowning in that nothingness and it was flicking at his heart. Lucian didn't want to let it win. "Please....at least tell me you love me..in some way....don't make me leave here felling so empty.....don't let me believe that I've fought so hard to end up alone....." Lucian turned his face away, trying to hide the tears that fell down his cheeks and threatened to break him down to his very soul.

Deep down inside him his Beast howled miserably, running in circles from the darkness that was beginning to surround it. IT howled with the pain as the chains bound it and it howled with the sadness as it was left in the darkness. It didn't like the feeling and it reached out to Leo with all it head, trying to pull him in and break itself free from the chains that Lucian was unintentionally placing it under as he lost his battle with his own darkness.

((note: it's a wee bit over dramatic, but the prince has never had someone break up with him and he's never been in love before))

Leo stepped forward and gently clasp Lucian's cheeks in his hands. "of course i love you, you fool" he whispered and gave the prince the sweetest kiss he could before breaking away. "it's because i love you that i am willing to wait for as long as it takes. go-fulfill your duty to your kingdom and when you are done come back to me so we can be together." he felt tears trickling down his cheeks, but stayed strong. "Lulu even if we can never be together, i will always quietly love you from the background, nothing and no one can change that."
