He smirked, "And do you actually think I want to be a father at the moment, or fit to be one would be more appropriate." he concluded. He looked at her through his dark bangs wondering what to make of her thoughts. He had never had his heart broken by a female before, just his father and his shunning him as a foal. From then on her had grown cold, but now he just seemed warmer. If she took it away he wouldn't die, he would still live and he knew that. He was just doing what his gut feeling told him to do.
He let himself fidget, his tail flicked behind him as he shuffled his feet every once in awhile. In a few moments his heart would thud once and then wait a few seconds before doing it again. "If you don't want to, its fine." he replied softly, hesitantly.

"Ah..." She shook her head slightly at his words and released a sigh. It seemed a lot of soquili were of the opinion that they would make terrible parents. Really, while he was abrasive that protective behaviour he often demonstrated was a quality that indicated he would be a good father. So he may not be able to connect with his children like some fathers but he would be strong for them and that was often what counted!
Of course, encouraging him about these qualities may not be a good idea at this precise moment in time. She had only just informed him that she didn't want children and such support might only encourage him! Then again...it almost seemed wrong to hide such a thing from him. Ah, life was so very complicated for her sometimes. Apparently in the Kawani lands she was not allowed to float about in an oblivious manner.
"You would be a fit father," she would follow her instincts and wouldn't allow him to fall into that rut, but she still didn't want children yet! She most definitely wasn't ready to become fat and hormonal. "But you really do need to be just a little more optimistic...you make it seem like you want me to say no!"

He rose a brow, he didn't believe her. He was afraid he'd end up like Erik. He wouldn't let that happen, get a mare pregnant and leave her. His mother, true mother was dead now. He still couldn't think of it, she was murdered. He replied nothing on that fact, he was not going to argue with her. He just let it go and ignored it.
"Optimistic really isn't my forte, but by asking I thought I was taking a big optimistic leap." he replied with an almost sarcastic tone. He wasn't used to being patient either. He was a stud that needed to be trained, otherwise he'd be as wild as he was now. He didn't know exactly what she liked, her favorite colors, or anything like that. He knew she had an otter companion and made him smile so why the hell not? All the other mares were the same to him, daft and emotional.

Sparkles was daft, in fact she was utterly bonkers on many occasions but there were times when she could be incredibly serene too. She was unpredictable but her ideas and solutions to problems could often be questionnable and completely and utterly bizarre - her best friend could support this. After all, it had been Sparkles idea to run away from her 'marriage' and hide out somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
...In Sparkles defence, it had sort of worked?
Nevertheless, she could also be emotional but her optmistic personality and mindset often presented that from happening. No doubt if she were pregnant this would be considerably different and perhaps that's why she was so uncertain! Fat and emotional were not always good combinations, and what if she started to eat more? The baby weight would be impossible to shift! Shaking her head, she flicked her tail to the side and released a sigh.
"No I didn't think it was, that's why I'm here right?" She enquired with a smile, "I can always be your agent, teach you to be more presentable to the public...no?"

He stopped for a moment, it was as if the little gerbil that was running the wheel has simply died. He blinked as he thought of the word, 'socialable' and 'presentable'...'public?' This was way to wrong, he was not sociable, he was antisociable he wasn't presentable unless he was passing through coming from the river and taking a bath and he'd be damned if he was going to go socialize with other soquili he never knew. Pfft. What was she thinking, he didn't want anything to do with other soquili. He'd rather hang himself, jump off a cliff, walk through fire and nothing less.
...why was he even thinking about that. She hadn't answered his damned question. She had totally averted the question and had him pissing himself thinking about going and talking to other stallions and mares as if they'd been life long friends and want to go frolicing in flowers. Now, he had to think about what he was going to say, because for the last few moments he had been dead quiet with a dumbfounded look on his face.
Now that was something to think about, she had his mind spinning in circles of things he would never have touched base on and she was avoiding the question. He wondered if it would truly work anyways. They were far from being cut from the same cloth but he couldn't help but wondor...if it would. He just stood their silent, contemplating...he didn't know what else to say to her. She had brought up a very touchy topic, since he was a recluse and his lifestyle had fit it that way.

Ah...silence was bliss (or so they said). Unfortunately for Sparkles silence often meant trouble when in the company of another and her bemused expression soon disappeared. Coiling her tail around her hind leg for comfort, she took the opportunity to observe the disgruntled stallion and knew that she had quite simply struck a nerve. It was a very tender nerve at that given how he was fawking at her.
Oh dear.
Ah but this was a problem for her too. She knew he was antisocial and she was aware that his skills in conversation were severely lacking but she was a social butterfly. She thrived in the company of others, positively glowed when the centre of attention and if she were to be hidden away she would wilt rather quickly. While he claimed to like her she wasn't entirely certain how she now react.
He had reacted poorly when she had spoken to Adonis, what if he were to act that way about every stranger she said hello to? She couldn't live in the shadows and pretend she didn't exist, she loved the sun and those that dwelled within it.
"...Nevermind then." She offered tentatively, a tight smile lining her equine lips. "Pretend I didn't say anything, okay?"

He was still grumbling inside, this wasn't what he'd planned he'd simply have to improvise whether he liked it or not. Which he knew he wasn't, he could be deemed civil but other than that was hopeless. His mouth twisted as he looked at her, she seemed almost as sad as he was disgruntled on this whole socializing matter. This wasn't the time to be strong and heroic, he simply needed to give a little. He knew she was no Sekhmet who could hide away with Erik. No, this was an entirely different matter.
He looked at her with almost a defeated expression, "No, don't say that. Its part of who you are to go out, and have idle chit chat with others. If I asked to take the lime light away from you, you wouldn't be you." he added solemly. All he had for her to go on, was his trust...he would never be 'sociable' but he could be decent. Though itd be hard work, since he was trained not to be since a foal and he generally liked it that way. Sparks was a unique kind of girl for a random kind of guy.

Had he just compromised? It took her a few moments to catch on to the fact that he had indeed relented a little. He had recognised that she was a social butterfly and accepted it. Granted she was somewhat aware that this would be difficult for him to do, but he had taken a step that so very few stallions would be prepared to. In a manner of speaking he was letting her be free, just as she desired to be while maybe taking a step to keep an eye on her?
Well, she wasn't sure about the second bit but still!
"You mean it?" her head tilted to the side and her eyes seemed to glitter with happiness. There were so few who offered to make such sacrifices and it was with a gentle whicker (and a bounce in her step) that she came forward and gently nuzzled at his cheek. It was of course in an affectionate manner, no strings attached or hidden messages - all it was there for was to indicate her thanks and her appreciation for what he had just done. No doubt he wouldn't be able to grasp the depth of what he had done but she really did love it!
"Of course I would never ask you to be the same as me, and I would never expect you to talk to as many people as me," she added quickly, aware that it was perhaps a good idea to reassure him that she didn't want to change him either. "But it would be nice for you to get a little bit more sun," she pointed out wisely. "It's good for the skin, you know?"

His cool blues watched at a not so expected reaction, he just watched as she came closer to him and nosed his cheek. It almost gave him shivers, he wasn't used to that either. He was usually a touch me not, after being raised by a unikalona you become that way automatically. This was too new to him, if it were any other mare he would of bit her head off and probably start rambling in French. That was a thought, he hadn't spoke French in so long. His accent had drifted.
His brow rose, "My skin has always been fine, ma chérie." He nodded his head at the bit of an accent he through in. It would just take one conversation with Erik to get it back and he was sure he'd be fine with it. "But I'll go with you if you wish." he winked. He didn't believe in broken promises, but he doubted she wanted to be with him in public. That was a laughing thought, Ares in public, socializing. Cynara would be thrilled.

Assuming that she wouldn't take him out into the public eye was unwise. Given her quirks and behaviour in public she would probably dragged the unlikely 'socialite' out with her. Admittedly he would provide very little conversation but she would embrace him all the same. So he was terrible in public, had anti-social qualities and had an unusual accent but if he wasn't going to talk that much then who would notice?
Sparkles could talk for them both, the spirits knew she was loud enough and had enough exhuberance to pull it off. While they had ducked and dived around the topic for quite some time now, it was almost with great pleasure that the mare finally began to embrace the idea. She was 'claimed' sort of, there were no children involved and virtually no strings attached but he had come for her.
And he didn't want anything except her!
Was this what her father meant?
She was positively delighted at that concept, he offered up yet another talking point but in a manner of speaking he was also there for her when a certain otter wasn't. She wouldn't have to hunt down another companion at night again, would she?
"Then I guess that means...that I'm all yours," she offered softly.
