Menstrual Cramps Hitsuki216 Menstrual Cramps czar tzadik Dir en grey > D'espairsray I think Quruli and ex girl both suck. I'd rather pay 20 dollars and see them [D'espairsray] an hour from me than spend way more than 20 dollars to see Dir en Grey in Japan since they won't come to America. Some person in the International Music Forum is trying to get like 3,000 people to say they would come to a concert in like I forget where..since Germany got them to come perform with the same thing or something like that. All I know is that won't happen. I spent more than $20 to see D'espairs Ray in cali and waaaay more than $20 to see diru. And I must say they are worth every penny I spent! I don't know why you don't like them, I guess as long as it's a good reason I shouldn't care or I shouldn't care at all cuz it's your loss, but I like their music and they are amazing live! I never said I didn't like D'espairsRay. I said I rather pay 20 to see them live [Which I did] than pay like 1,000 to go to Japan to see Dir en Grey Live. Dir en Grey is not worth my Summer savings. Well you don't have to worry about going to Japan. I hear Dir en Grey is coming to the US. The only thing that kinda pisses me off is that they are going through JPop House to get a venue.....so Diru may end up playing at some cons....which is good and bad....I mean they'll be surrounded by fans....but they aren't playing at some place that ISN'T anime related. I hope they reconsider and find some places on their own. I don't wanna pay $30 to go to a con just to see them...okay maybe I will but it seems stupid to do that. I also hear that Miyavi might be coming to the US to tour or play. I am REALLY REALLY looking forward to it, IF he is coming. I hope PS Co. doesn't go through JPop House as well....that would make me sad. ;_; I really want to see one of his live concerts. His music got me hooked on JRock so I am obligated to see at least ONE live performance. Heck, I might as well go to them all.

hide__sama Well you don't have to worry about going to Japan. I hear Dir en Grey is coming to the US. I hope they reconsider and find some places on their own. I don't wanna pay $30 to go to a con just to see them...okay maybe I will but it seems stupid to do that. Huh?? You realize it costs about 50 bucks to see Dir en grey in Japan, on top of which, tickets are pretty damn hard to get. And of course, you don't get to be anywhere near the stage, because of the fanclub. So either you pay to join the fanclub, and THEN pay 50 bucks to see them, or you're screwed watching from the back (and you might not even get that ticket). Anytime a band comes over here, no matter where they play, it's still a great opportunity. Indies shows in Japan usually cost $30 (regardless of the bands, unless they suck A LOT, in which case you'll find cheaper shows), or, $50+ for major. A con pass is just that - a pass to the con, so technically the show IS free... it just sucks for those who want to see them but have no interest in anime. Plus the fact that the fans can get so close to the band, often even talk to them (in the halls, wherever - I don't mean the special passes), a lot of this stuff isn't possible in Japan. Although at the same time, the opposite is true, but I won't get into that. On a different note, I don't think Deg would play a con. Jpophouse already showed with Desray that they can have a show outside of a con. I think if Deg came they would opt for that instead o:

Looks like just one concert to me. In fact I can't seem to find any of this new york and chicago stuff. Just that one in baltimore.

No, they definitely didn't come to New York/Chicago/etc. for a tour.
I went to their first American show, which was the Otakon show, and haven't heard anything about them coming to my town - neither officially, nor from my huge NYC-area L'arc fan friends, who would never miss this kind of thing. Just check the tofu site.
They probably visited those places, but never performed there.

Yeah l'arc only played the one show in baltimore and just spent time in the city that weekend. the dvd has footage of them hanging around baltimore and even doing some promo shots in some of the back alleys. (kinda sucks that they cut out some of the dialogue between the band and the audience specifically the ken and the dolphin mask bit for those who attended the show)
Regarding DeG playing at a con and not an independent venue, i think thats fine, i dont really see any problems with it. At this point the concentration of the DeG fans are at the anime con and honestly it will be cheaper to attend the con and pay reg fees than if you payed at a large arena etc. you all get the idea. for a first appearence, Deg wont be able to draw a crowd big enough to not make an appearence at or near a site without a huge concentration of fans allready together. They need to start with their existing fan base, encourage it to spread out and grow, and then they can start touring small venues here. its important to keep in mind im talking about the band performing at larger venues.
Regarding Jpop house. At conventions and dealers rooms, I personally dont like them, i think they try to squeeze out every last dime out of the fans, their staff is uninformed about the products they sell, and the come accross as all about the money rather than the spread of j rock for its musical appreciation. However, they are responsible and are effective at putting together appearences and some of the smaller j rock shows at conventions so its a tricky situations for fans like us, in that they get the job done regarding negotiations with conventions as well as smaller clubs. so it will be interesting to see how they change and develop as an organization.

Plus, Jpophouse mostly deals with visual kei, and not even with all of visual kei, but omitting important sub-sections. Of course, they do sell non-visual kei [overpriced] CDs, but nobody pays attention to them (and I'm willing to bet knows that those bands exist), as they don't care to promote anything outside of vk. This way, the image of "Jrock" that curious congoers get, is that of visual kei.

This way, the image of "Jrock" that curious congoers get, is that of visual kei. Its unfortunate, but the decision to focus heavily on the visual bands alone is probably out of a decision that is again driven by a goal to increase sales. The overall problem is that they are and the music community particularly within the US is a business, treated as a business and its up to the fans, artists and musicians to do the real promoting. The visual bands are easier to promote in the US specifically because of the visual component to them, its somthing they can physically show off to the general public as somthing that seperates them from the mainstream bands here in the US. The remaining Japanese bands are most likely going to be have to be promoted through the underground j-rock movement which ideally will slowly chip away at the barriers put up (not intentionally but its there) against j rock in the US.
