They should, unless your a mesmer or a melee type, although even a Derv should be worried about interrupts if he wants to heal (Go with Dwayna's Touch) ninja

Fire ele's are overall great in pve (best 2 builds being SF/SH) especially if you have 1-2 ele heroes running it as well. In hard mode not so great b/c they run out of the aoe easily. However if you have a tank snare (like grasping earth w/e ex: duncan raids) it can still be effective.
In PvP fire eles are decent-good depending on whose playing them. My main problem with running fire eles in pvp is they keep getting nerfed. Starburst got nerfed, SF, SH, anything that was good-amazing once it came out got nerfed hard shortly after.
Granted fire eles are still decent for ab or ra, but I wouldn't consider that serious pvp, in a ha group you might see an sh but usually they'll want a water snare or warder, and that goes for the same for gvg, especially top 100 battles.
So to answer your question... are fire eles over-powered, no I don't think so... they are over-used b/c they are relatively easy to learn to run and they do a lot of damage to groups especially in normal mode pve... but in serious pvp you won't find to many and in hard mode its probably safer to stick with a balanced team or something like the 6 necro vanguisher team build.

Actually, a Fire Ele is very powerful in hard mode, probably more powerful if coupled as a Paragon or Sin. The Paragon skill, Glowing Signet can be used to restore enough energy to cast another spell, consider it a free spell - as long as the foe is burning.
I'dd admit that Water Eles probably have more uses in Hard Mode PvE, as well as Air Eles. But doesn't Mean Fire Eles are any less useful.

My necro causes fire eles (or casters in general) to shat themselves with every attack. taking about 30-40 damage for each hex (usually 5) on them (105 with backfire), and its even more if they miss an attack.
And since most Eles dont have a hex removing skill, or a monk following them, around, its affective majority of the time.

When it comes down to it though, every & any build has its counters. Its how the player plays the build that really matters

Well that's why you don't use AoE period in PvE. Since that update that's become almost useless unless you're wanting to spread the mobs. However, the Fire ele has powerful nukes and even semi-nukes. Enough FM and Fireball could be a heavy spike all by itself, combine yourself with a mesmer secondary, hex with Incendiary Bonds (Can't remember the exact spell if that's not right) and then take it off with one of your mesmer skills, doesn't even need any points in it to spot the damage faster. and btw, I did read what you posted, your grammatical structure is what I wask attacking 4laugh

So true. My main is an Ele and when I play my survival really depends on my party. I make sure my heroes/henchies have strengths where my faults are. Fire is great in most PVE areas, especially with more then one fire ele in a party. It gets really boring after a awhile though. In Eye of the North...fire is crap against destroyers so I started running an air spiker build and fell in love with it<3

Elementalists in particular are good only if they are far from enemies, except air eles with blind. I hate those eles since my main is a warrior. I think that if an ele is not on my team the best ele is a dead ele.

All classes have their good and not so good skills.
Ele's are great with their fire power. But I find that with Fire and Earth magic mixed it causes better damage and defense. Just as Water with Air magic makes great support for a team.
The only class I would say can be invincible are the Rangers, Warriors, Necro (Necros only if they become MM) Although all classes can go it alone an survive. These threee when play correctly don't need henchmen nor hero's.
