In my opinion, if the two people are aware that marriage is a TON of work, and is only very occasionally a carpet of red roses or whatever, then they're ready to get hitched.

They need to also be aware of the personal liberties they'll be giving up in tying themselves to another person, as well as the social stigma attached to being "a married man/woman"

(It is never said "married girl/boy". Once you get married you are no longer considered a child by anyone.)
