Serenity rinsed her brush in a jar of water and capped her paints again, then folded her legs beneath her and lay her painting momentarily to one side so that she could focus on Kanki. Perhaps she would be able to help him.
"My Mama says that dreams are always important, and always mean something," she told him softly, seriously. "It's good to think about them ... and bad to ignore them. And it is possible ..."
She hesitated, wondering if she should make the suggestion. After all, the only case she knew of had been in another world, and she didn't know if such things were possible here.

Kanki listened with interest to what Serenity was saying. But as she stopped, he asked, "It's possible that? Go on..."

Serenity could hear the interest and intrigue in the boy's voice, and she decided that she would make the suggestion - she couldn't disappoint him. And who knew? Maybe it was possible.
She took a deep breath. "In a different world where my Mama is from, my grandfather, her father ... he was dead ... but he was born again ... and when he was little, he had dreams about his old life ... maybe you're having the same thing."
She didn't want to get his hopes up, but ...
"But he didn't remember anything really until he met people from his old life, and that was when he was already all grown up again," she added.

Kanki thought about the things Serenity had suggested and couldn't help but to agree. It was possible.
"But shouldn't I just forget about the past? I am sure there is no one from my supposedly previous life here." Kanki then asked. Would it benefit him if he would remember more about his past.

"Well it sometimes just works if you see things that remind you of your past life," she admitted. "Not necessarily a person ... but maybe your guardian could help you, do you have one?"
She was well aware that there were seconds without guardians, and if that was the case here she would be more than happy to help the boy however she could.

Kanki rolled his eyes slightly at the comment of a guardian. "I have one.... I think I mentioned her earlier..." Kanki said and slightly giggled as he remembered how the two of them had met.
"I'm not sure she'll get to explaining things to me." Kanki mused. "But i guess it's worth a try."
He sat down again and then said, "But I dont feel like going back to her yet."

"Oh ... oh yes, you did," Serenity blushed brightly, remembering how she had been mistaken for his guardian. "I'm sorry ... I was quite flustered at the time, so ..."
She heard him giggle and wondered if he was laughing at her reaction, at her in general, or at something else - but she didn't ask. Instead, she just blushed a bit more brightly.
"Well," she said thoughtfully, "if you don't want to go back to her yet ... I could stay and keep you company ... unless you want to be alone again."
She remembered now how he had been angry with her at first, and her confidence failed her.

"Heh, it's ok. I was a bit surprised too when I first saw you." Kanki admitted with a little smile.
"I would love it if you would keep me company Serenity. At first, I didnt know one could have a decently great time with someone." Kanki replied to her offer.
He then looked towards her painting things. "So, you like to draw..." he murmured.

Serenity blushed but she smiled widely. She couldn't help but feel sorry for the boy ... not knowing it was nice to spend time with people ...
"Yes," she replied in answer to his comment, "I love drawing ... and painting. I always have. I used to have quite a bit of my work with me, but ... I was caught in a cave at high tide and the water came in and ruined it all."
Her eyes grew sad as she thought back to the event. She had cried so hard ... she had never been more disappointed in her life.
"Because of that," she continued, softer now again, "I have to start my portfolio over again ... this picture that I'm doing of you ... is my first since then."

Kanki felt sorry for the girl, because she had lost something that had been so important to her.
"I bet it was rough on you." He commented and turned to lay on his side.
"How did the picture turn out?" he then asked curiously.

Serenity smiled softly. Despite how he had been earlier, Kanki was actually turning out to be kind and thoughtful.
"It's still in progress," she replied, picking up the canvas and holding it up for him to see, "but it's not a bad start."
So far it was his basic outline and a few of the details, but the rest would come later..
"If you want to pose again, I'll keep working on it," she smiled, "but if you'd rather not I think I have enough to finish it later without having to bother you any more."

"No-no, I dont mind posing at all." Kanki quickly replied and returned to his pose. The picture was looking really great and he wanted to see it finished.
"And you're not a bother at all Serenity." he then added with a smile.

Serenity smiled warmly and set the painting in front of her, reaching for her paints.
"Thank you," she said softly, opening her paints and starting to paint once again.
For a few moments, she worked in silence, occasionally glancing up at Kanki to look at another detail, but finally she decided she would make another attempt at conversation.
"So what kind of things do you like to do, Kanki?" she asked him softly as she began to paint the details of his face.

"Well..." Kanki started and fought against the urge of turning his head to face Serenity.
"So far... I have only been laying here, listening to the wind or some music. So I dont really have something I like as much as you like to draw." he continued.

"Oh!" Serenity beamed. "Were you just born, then?"
That was what it sounded like to her.
"Don't worry, you'll find something eventually," she said warmly. "You just have to try some things, find out what you're good at, and what you like doing."
She hoped she would be able to find out someday what he liked, and that he would let her paint a picture of him doing it.
