As Shadow mentioned the girl, they shot back to the tiny white and pink female. Ark's jaw clenched and unclenched, his fur calming down to lay smoothly over his body. His eyes probed over her, looking for an hint of anything that would send him a red flag. None came to surface. Ark just narrowed his eyes back at Shadow and he asked in a less harsh tone, "Who is she?" It was a demanding voice, but at least Ark wasn't ready to drag his son off and forbid the female to come around ever again. heh, Ark wouldn't have the heart.

Shadow breathed a soft sigh a relief when he saw his father was calming down. It seemed his assumption about his father being kinder to females was right. "She's.... Her name is Nani." he decided to start with. "And she, uh, was living under a tree." She was, right? She was there for four days, after all. "Her parents are dead." He couldn't think of anything else to say, especially under the pressure of his father's stare and that particular bit of info just happened to pop out. Immedietly, he pressed his lips together and stared at his father with wide eyes, as if saying something like that would get him a harsh beating.

"Nani." Ark said, sharply, wanting the girls direct attention. His neck straight, body posed for dominance but his eyes were much, much more kinder as they stared at the small female. He waited for her return gaze, and while he did, he mulled over the punishments for Shadow for disobeying direct orders. No one said chivalry was free.

Nani flinched, ears folded back as she turned her eyes upon the adult. Her lips quivered, and she curled closer into Shadow, "Y-yes. sir...?" she whimpered. She gave a quiver when her parents were mentioned.
She bit her lip gently, not wanting to do any crying in front of the male. As she looked up at him, she noticed that his eyes weren't as cold and relaxed bit against Shadow, ears perking slightly. "Ah... E-everything Shadow said was true, s-sir... I am.... Alone... now." she managed out, a tremble erupting from her lips.

Shadow gave an apologetic whimper when Nani quivered. He should have realized it would be a touchy subject. He couldn't imagine life without his parents, after all. He watched his father and felt envious. His father was nice to Nani, but he wouldn't be nice to him, his own son? His pup knowledge couldn't see the reasoning behind this and he glared at his father, trying to remember the way back into the tree so he could hide out there if he needed to. He didn't think the entrance was large enough for Ark to fit through. The thought was immedietly erased with Nani's last sentence. He felt pity for her, that she was alone. He dug in through his memories and there was never a time when he was truly alone. Someone he knew was always close by, just a corner away.

Ark didn't pick up any deceit in Nani's voice or gaze. He slowly trotted over, trying to be less intimidating to Nani as possible. He ducked his head and smelt of her pelt. It didn't smell of any other helix than Shadow. He only could pick up flower, grass, and dirt. He narrowed his eyes in thought, not in a glaring manner. ".. How long have you been alone Nani?" Ark questioned, pulling back from her personal space.

Nani pulled away a little when Ark neared her, but she remained still the moment she realized he was sniffing her... For what, she had to wonder. She gave a little quiver, silently waiting for the elder to move away from her. She'd probably react better if Ark were a child like her. After the incident, adult males simply...
Terrified her.
She inwardly let out a sigh of relief as the male moved away from her 'bubble', and relaxed visually as well. And then the next question rose. How long have you been alone Nani?... Nani's ears folded back sadly, and her eyes turned t the ground as she tried to figure it out. "Four days under the tree... One day of digging..... Two... No three? of that.... " she bit her lip as she shifted side to side.
That's right. It had taken one day for her to bury her parents remain after two days of cowering and making sure the thing wasn't there, and then half a day of traveling to reach the tree, where she stayed for four days... Until now. "Seven a-and a half days, sir?" she looked back up at him, swallowing dryly.

Ark was shocked the girl hadn't been killed or died off from starvation. He looked over her fragile looking body a third time, this time noticing her ribs just barely noticeable and her knee's and ankles a little to prominent. "Are you hungry Nani?" He asked in a softer voice, relaxing his body to not seem so threatening.

Nani swallowed a bit again, before nodding slowly, ears pressing against her head, "Y-yes sir.... I-I'm hungry.... I haven't eaten much since the..... Incident..." her parents always used to catch the food, although Nani did know how to. She just... Didn't really like to kill the animals herself. She moved a little closer to Shadow's father in a very submissive position, tail woven around Shadow's to make him follow. She gave the adult a tiny smile, lip quivering as she tried to look calmer....

Ark, in a comforting gesture leaned down and nuzzled Nani's neck. He grinned down at her, the way he did Aurora. After licking some dirt off her cheek, and sat back up. "Shadow, you should be hungry by now too..?" Ark asked in question form. He would hunt for pups, not just Nani and Shadow but Erebus and Aurora and Azula were also wanting food. He glanced around for any immediate game to settle Nani's and Shadow's stomachs. A small squirrel was scurrying around on the ground, unnoticed by most.
Ark looked down at Shadow and motioned his muzzle towards the prey. "You want your first hunting lesson? Well watch closely.." he whispered in his husky voice, crouching and stalking for the prey. Ark blended in with the shadows the tree's and brush provided. Just a few feet away, Ark leaped and landed right on top of the food. His jaws captured the creatures skull and crushed it easily. Ark stood back up, the carcass dangling from his jaws.

Shadow watched their exchange quietly, hoping his father's anger would soon disappear if he kept the attention off himself. He followed obediently at Nani's tug, keeping his head lowered respectfully. His tactics seemed to work, because Ark offered him food as well. "Yep." he smiled, wagging his tail. His ears perked and he looked up Ark with hopeful eyes at his father's next words. He did as he was told, keeping both his eyes and ears open. The squirrel blended with the woods, it even smelled like the tree it was on, but his father went with the shadows, and was quicker on his paws. He caught the squirrel in one try and Shadow yipped excitedly. Shadow ran towards his father, Nani forgotten for the moment. "Wow, you were so cool!" he barked, tugging on the dangling tail.
