Peeking back once over her should to make sure that she wasn't being followed, Anelisse trotted up to the bank and made short work of unpinning her hair, carefully removing the pin with her tail and laying it carefully in the hollow of a river rock. Having made sure the trinket was safe, she then briskly unbound the braid, then waded out into the water. It was still cold, but not so cold that she couldn't manage; as she waded out into the middle of the river, she let out a soft sigh as the water closed around her. Socialization was way too frustrating these days...mulling on that, she pulled up her legs and allowed the currently to float her down the river a bit, once again lost in her own thoughts.

Curious and curiouser, but in a good way. As Biscuit confirmed what she had just asked, Raccoon let out an enthusiastic chirrup and clapped her paws excitedly, literally dancing with excitement that she had been understood AND gotten permission all at once. It was a bit weird that he wanted her to take it from his mane, though; usually the neck was much more sensitive than the rump, but then again, tail hair tended to be coarser and less soft than mane hair, so she sure wasn't going to complain!

That in mind, she hopped up onto Biscuit's back in one fluid motion, then carefully eyed his mane. It was short, so she would have to be careful to grip it in the right place or it would break off too soon...

But after a bit of study, she found the place she was looking for; taking up one hank, she gave a short, practiced yank, coming away with a modest fistful of hair. Success!

Anelisse's luck was not with her this week, in fact it probably hadn't been with her for many weeks according to her own mind. However, things were perhaps set to get worse again as another twig snapped near by. Nothing to be thought of, right? Or so one would have thought had it not been for the flicker of red in the trees nearby. Needless to see, it was gone as soon as it had been seen and could have been mistaken for a mere figment of the imagination...

Needless to say Biscuit had experienced a lot of strange things on his journeys. He'd had his hair cut, braided and decorated in an array of styles and manners. A sharp tug to the hair was nothing in that regard given that many humans were more obssessed with his mane than his tail. Raccoon had been precise with her movements and as a consequence he was happy to stand patiently beneath her administrations. It wasn't long before the creature had completed her task and he lifted his head up upon the audible chirrup. Hopefully she was satisfied by the amount she had commendered from his head.

Nevertheless he took the opportunity to shake his head and arch it, stretching to rid himself of the tingling sensation that often occured after one had caused a slight shock of pain. Sure enough in a matter of minutes the tingling had subsided and he was one again comfortable. It was then that he twisted his head round to observe the raccoon and flashed another of his wistful smiles.

"Ye git enough I'm assumin'?" He mused, taking note of the substantial amount of his hair in her paws.

It was just as well that Anelisse had her eyes half closed and fixed on the dimming sky above; had she even suspected she was seeing things again, she might have..well, she didn't know what she would have done, because she had no idea. Regardless, the water was doing it's thing, and before she had gone too far Anelisse was flipping over again, shaking back her mane and starting the much more arduous swim back up the river. No one had ever said that relaxation was easy...but even this was easier than just thinking. She'd done far too much thinking as of late.

~~

Upon receipt of the hair, Raccoon had almost immediately separated it into three hunks and was swiftly and expertly braiding it into a band by the time Biscuit had finished his question. In response, she merely held it up for him to admire, chirruping affirmatively and patting his nose in gratitude. To be sure, it wasn't the sort of color that she usually saw or went after; Mistress had no browns or yellows, so it wasn't necessarily a perfect color match. Still, one never knew when something would come in handy; occasionally Raccoon liked to try something new, like braiding several different colors into her mane or making several bright hairbands. No sense in wasting something that might be useful!

And having gotten her hair, the least she could do was try and return the favor. Finishing her braid and twisting it around her wrist, she gave a gentle tug on one of Biscuit's curls, taking another in her hand to indicate her desire to braid HIM...if he wanted.

"Awk, ye have te skills of a master!" Slick as ever, he seemed to take an equal amount of pride in the Raccoon's work and could do nothing more than congratulate her. She had been quick and her paws made swift work of his hair, a true master hair stylist if he'd ever seen one. Still, when she made the offer of tending to his own hair he appeared to be somewhat uncomfortable with the idea. For the most part those he had encountered enjoyed the curls and tended to work around them - he was definitely more inclined towards them himself. Partial to their bounce and full look, he was less than incliend to tame them or suffocate them in hair styles that were simply not meant to him. A kind gesture or not, he was happy with his bouncy hair and would have it no other way.

"As kind as ye offer is, I believe that I should be declinin' it," he cleared his throat and offered a more wry and genuine smile. "I be likin' me curls loose, I nae be one fer the neater look tha' ye mistress be goin' fer," he explained patiently. Now his statement could probably have been taken poorly but he suspected the Raccoon had better grace. His assumption was that she had offered her services as repayment but he was no debt collector and as a consequence, had no desire to make her do any work. So long as she was satisfied by what she had acquired he would be content with that.

"Sides, the foreign mares be liken me bouncey curls, they nae see it often ye see!"

Ah well, it was an unavoidable pity. Stallions these days were all so very particular about their hair, wanting it to be loose and unfettered more than anything else. Good for them, not so good for raccoons who might want to arrange it. Still, Raccoon was philosophical about the matter, releasing his mane with a nonchalant shrug and sliding down his shoulder back to the ground. At the same time, she gave him a knowing look at his comment about the mares, giggling a bit in mirth and then giving him her best simpering mare face before bursting into even more dramatic laughter, flopping on the ground to snigger in greater comfort. Stallions were so funny, them and their determination to impress with their rugged nature and charm.

It made them entertaining, though, and an amusing break from the ordinary. Naturally, she would toss Biscuit and every other stallion over a cliff in a heartbeat if it was in her Mistress' best interests, but otherwise? For the most part, they weren't too bad!

She was a good humoured creature and one who could fully offset her mistress' behaviour. It was something the mare needed to say the least, a creature so considerate and amiable that she would make soquili and critter alike forget about her rather abrupt and naive persona. Biscuit had to applaud the raccoon though and envied the level of patience she did appear to have - loyal to the core he half suspected she would clout any male (or female) nearby if she possessed the ability to do so. Well she was a better creature than he could ever be if he was completely honest and though she was fantastically patient he didn't aspire to follow her down the path of servitude.

Alas, as fate would have it he began to feel the tingling within his hooves and that ever present call of the wild. His ears quivered and his gaze shifted towards the regions beyond the forest line. He was being summoned, his hooves shifting as an indication of his desire to be gone. He'd been in the Kawani for far too long and craved the open road. He had too much to explore and so little time - as pleasant as the raccoon was it was time for the 'suspicious' stallion to be taking his leave.

"Oi, as wonderful as ye company 'as been it be time fer me te depart," he murmured at last. Bowing to the raccoon he turned on his heels and glanced over his shoulder with a roguish smile. "Been a while since I last moved so I be thinkin' it's time fer me te be findin' some of those swoonin' mares ye be laughin' at... ye keep yeself safe now, alrigh'?" Without pausing to hear the response though, he made his way towards the forest line and left the raccoon to her own devices...

Silly stallion, but nice all the same. Red Stallion and Brown Stallion had both been likable enough, but their type seemed to be few and far in between. If only Mistress would be able to laugh at them like Raccoon could, then the world would REALLY be perfect. Mistress needed to laugh more, needed to see more things that made her happy. The last two days had seen a return to the fire of old, but they needed to work on the laughter. Mistress when she was smiling and laughing was the most amazing creature in the whole world, that she was; she just needed to remember that herself and get back to the happy self. Happy was good.

Ah well, happy or sad, Raccoon would be at her side. Waving a farewell to Brown Friend, she turned and bounced off down the bank in search of Mistress; if she was swimming, then she'd need help with her hair.
