Trailing her fingers lazily along his chest, Tourma listened to him rant. To her, it sounded just like any one's family, only maybe a little more extreme. However, sometimes Ken exaggerated just a tad bit about things. Living with him and Ray had taught her to take their accusations and rants with a grain of salt sometimes.
Somehow, in the midst of everything, the words 'come to dinner' caught her attention as if they had been said through a megaphone.
"You told your mom about me?" She exclaimed, straightening up and peering down curiously at him. Soon, a smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she clasped her hands together in front of her. "And she wants me to come to dinner?" It didn't take long before she wore a rather unsettling grin.
"So when are we going?" The Skullmonkey finally asked pleasantly.

....had he said that?
He had.
s**t.
"....You'd want to...?" he ventured at last, looking at Tourma warily. He hadn't expected that sort of reaction, honestly....he wasn't sure what he HAD been expecting, but had involved her looking at him like he had gone utterly bananas and not speaking to him for awhile.

"Do you not want me to meet your mom?" She asked, raising her eyebrows as her smile faded to a more neutral expression.
Though, she still found it hard to hide her excitement over finding out that she was important enough to Ken to mention to his mother. Nevermind the fact that he probably only did it to get her off his back, or something like that.

"No, its not that I don't WANT you to meet my mom, its--" he faltered, trying to stop the backslide of her expression and realizing he was very quickly backing himself into a corner if he didn't stop it.
"I just kinda thought that was creepy of her to bring up so soon." he muttered. "That's kinda like.....I dunno.....isn't that like something that's supposed to happen later?"
The clueless and futile tone of the question didn't suggest that he was trying to weasel out of it so much as he had no clue whatsoever what was supposed to come when in the timeline of a typical relationship.

"Well how did she bring it up?" Her eyes reflected a more curious state of mind after his explanation, and she awkwardly shifted so that she leaned against the opposite side of the tub, carefully draping her legs between his own.
She ignored the question. As she herself had never been in this sort of situation, or any sort of relationship for that matter, Tourma didn't want to let on that she was just as clueless. "Aren't we also supposed to date before doing the nasty, too?"

...that was a good point, he guessed.
As for how she brought it up....redness creeped up in his cheeks, splaying so far across his pale face that it burned up into his ears.
"She...um...." he muttered something unintelligible.

A nerve had been struck! Clearly this must mean that said event that led to her being asked over for dinner was embarrassing, and therefore probably amusing.
"Pardon?"
She didn't even stop to think that she might not want to hear about the circumstances. Oh well.

He winced in response.
"I said she...." he faltered.
.....screw it.
"She asked while we were out looking for a new bedframe." he muttered, avoiding Tourma's eyes as he said it. There.

Her mouth opened and shut, giving her the wet appearance of a fish out of water until she finally snapped it shut in a frown. So that's how he was able to buy a new bed frame... Mommy money.
Subconsciously, her tail curled around her waist, essentially hugging it.
"Oh... Alright."
It was all she really could think to say.

He let the silence span between them until it wasn't just hanging in the air but felt as if it was drilling into his skin like a thousand tiny itching needles. Squirming a bit, he moved to get out of the tub.
"Anyway, you don't have to go if you'd rather not." he told her, reaching for a towel. "She's probably just going to use the whole night to be a pain in the a**."

She thought for a moment, allowing herself to linger in the lukewarm water of the tub while she casually watched him. An odd feeling in her stomach pointed to the high likelihood of Ken's mother envisioning her son's girlfriend as some huge whale of a person, who, like her son, never really saw the light of day. At least, that's what she'd think under the circumstances. The more creative her mind got with envisioning all sorts of scary women, the more resolute she became on the matter.
All of a sudden, the teen caught his arm, letting it slide down till she held his hand in hers. "It's just dinner, how bad could it be?" She offered him a genuine smile.
Tourma was not about to let old insecurities keep her from her slice of happiness, especially when he had a chance to show her off to his mother.

And....he allowed himself to reflect on that for a moment.
Asking how bad things could be when it came to his family was like waving a red flag in front of an annoyed bull.
Kendall wanted to tell her about the time he and Raven had been left to their own devices as toddlers for a few minutes while their mother had answered the phone, and had had to be rushed to the doctor to have legos extracted from their noses.
Kendall also wanted to tell her about the time they'd all sat down as a family to watch Sister Act and it had devolved into a namecalling match, which had ended in ice cream and popcorn being flung at one another across the couch and ultimately resulted in him, Raven, his father, and Karma all scrubbing the sticky cushions, to the tune of Karma's grumbling and cursing that chocolate ice cream did not come easily out of carpets. They never DID get to see how that movie had ended.
And then there was the time a heated game of Super Smash Brothers had become the two of them trying to choke each other to death with the game controller cords.
'How bad could it be'? He knew from experience VERY BAD.
"I guess so." he said instead, grabbing for a towel to sponge wetness away from his pale frame. "....my family's all kind of big on meat, though. If that's gonna be a problem, I mean...." he ventured. Not that he was fishing for excuses, but it was the truth. He was pretty sure he could convince his mother to make, at least, a decent salad for Tourma, but he wasn't sure how receptive she'd be to leaving cow, pig, or bird-death entirely out of the family meal.

She gave his hand a squeeze before releasing it. "Well, as long as there are a variety of vegetable side dishes, I'll be just fine." At least, that's how it always ended up working out whenever there were potlucks or she went to eat at the houses of family friends. It was one thing to be picky about food in her own home and when she paid for it, but as a guest, Tourma knew better than to make a big stink about it. After all, it wasn't as if she had a food allergy or anything.
As he toweled himself off, Tourma lazily planted her elbow on the edge of the tub and then rested her chin in her palm as her eyes followed his movements.
"We should probably wait for some of the scratches to heal before I meet her," she murmured, hiding a slight smile as her mind steamed ahead. "Unless you'd rather proudly bare the badges of getting enthusiastically laid...?"
That would be interesting, at least.

He blinked, and then turned to wipe the cloud of steam away from the mirror with a portion of the towel to study his face in the still-hazy glass. Though, moreso the hairline scratches that ran along the base of his jaw and down the side of his neck.
"God, what were you doing? Carving your initials?" he muttered, though his tone wasn't without teasing. Forget his parents, he was wondering if his CUSTOMERS would have anything to say about it. He supposed he could always just tell them he and his pet cat had a disagreement...
....and then stopped himself to wonder if he was really, truly, trying to cover up for this. Hell, he really WAS a geek...

She shrugged. "Hell if I know." Furrowing her brow, she tilted her head to the side as if to try and remember how and when the scratches had occurred. When she couldn't recall exactly, Tourma simply attempted to conceal her laughter. "Tell them that the p***y got a little over-excited..."
Ken's sense of humor had apparently already started to rub off onto her.
Chuckling as she herself climbed out of the tub and began to towel herself dry. "Do you want me to keep my hands to myself next time then?" A colorful eyebrow arched in his direction.
