Veyes rubbed his hands together as if they were plotting the most sinister things. It was like playing in his imaginary world in the real one if only for a short time. "You're legendary tongue would get you into so much trouble! Oh but Raith...your 'Lady' would keep you in line. Someone would have to keep you in line. I doubt any mortal man could!" Yes, they'd probably abhor and love the Dark Lord and Veyes couldn't help but muse upon the idea a little more while L'thor walked over and put the straps away.
His day had improved tenfold just by being here; learning straps and talking with L'thor. Everything had seemed so awful earlier, but now he felt like he could take on the world again. A softer smile stayed upon his lips as he thought about his friend and wished he had better ways to say how much he appreciated him. But then L'thor returned to the table and his mind came back into focus, "It seems like mending or caring for a saddle but I'll need to practice it somehow. If you ever get any straps that get way to bad for Raith to use can I try practicing mending on those?" He didn't really want to work on any that were actually in service; he didn't trust himself after just one lesson but in time, he wanted to be able to repair...and make any straps. It didn't matter what size of dragon or shape. He had no idea what he might impress and well, why not be prepared? Never know when you could use a skill like that. Right?
"I'm sure I will in time. So...do you still have Raith's baby straps?" he grinned and poked just a little at L'thor then seemed to be taken by a thoughtful wave. Somehow, he could imagine L'thor being the type to keep such a sentimental thing tucked away somewhere. It seemed like what a small tooth lost on a child might be like. The wistful visions of childhood...how fast they slipped away with dragons. Another vision of innocent youth...and one of old age; turns could pass so quickly. And there he was again...distracted by a distant flame; dreaming the days of future past.

Raith keeping him in line? Yes, that sounded about right. L'thor chuckled and stretched out his legs with a contented sigh. "Yes, I think you're right there. Raith always has been the only one able to control me, to persuade me to hold my tongue. Even she doesn't succeed all the time, but it'd be a poor Dark Lord who never had outbursts of temper!" He quite liked this little imaginary world. He had never been one to lead, mostly because he lacked the patience to keep idiots in line. Probably because he insulted people too much as well and they wouldn't want to follow him. Nevertheless, it was fun to imagine himself and Raith pushing the bronzes around and lording it over all the candidates.
"Oh, yes, if you like," L'thor said with a nod as Veyes' voie pulled him back to the real world. "I certainly have no use for the worn out ones, so you can do whatever you like with them... I do still have Raith's first set of straps actually. Got a piece of her shell, too, oh and the first tooth she lost." L'thor grinned and shook his head slightly. "Yes, I can be a terribly sentimental thing when I'm not breathing fire at people." Getting up again, L'thor made his way over to his wardrobe and, opening it, took a small wooden box out of the bottom. This he carried back over to the table and set down before lifting away the lid and removing the contents.
First were the straps, tiny compared to the ones he had just hung back on their peg. The stitching on them had a more... a more pedantic look it seemed to him. These of course had been the days of perfect, painstaking measurement; it showed to L'thor but he didn't know if it would be obvious to anyone else. Next he took out a small tooth. Well, fairly small. It was still white, and he knew from experience that the point was almost needle sharp. Finally he took out a palm-sized shard of shell and set it down on the table. Most of the shell was a lovely sky blue, but just as the dragon that had come from it, the shard was decorated with darker tones too.
"Almost ten turns now," L'thor commented as he stroked the piece of shell with a forefinger. "Still seems like it was just yesterday."

Veyes pondered the amount of time that had past for L'thor as he peered down at the memories that L'thor displayed. He wondered if one day he'd be experiecing the same types of memories or if his path was a different journey. Well either way something would come good of it even if the memories were nothing remotely similar.
"She must have been really small and cute." he said with a smile as he looked at the baby straps carefully considering their size. He didn't touch them but noticed how differently L'thor stitched now from then but he guessed that the first years one would be more particular before developing a style. "Oh...thanks, I'm sure that repairing worthless straps will give me more opportunities to get better at stitching."
As he tilted his head to take in the tooth and shell shard, he chuckled affectionately, "Oh if only others knew how much of a softy you are L'thor. Raith had a really pretty shell. Kind of reminds me of the last hatching. All the shells there had blue too."
He watched L'thor with his head placed just upon his hands supported by the elbows on the table. He always found himself wishing he could express deeper things but usually the timing was off and well, sometimes he felt like he was intruding. Or...well maybe he didn't know the right words. So, he just took in a breath and smiled again as he sat there rather content from the progress made and the good memories offered. "Maybe one day I'll be able to think fondly of something similar. You and Raith are pretty lucky."
Then, he paused and realized that it probably was getting late. Eventually, he'd have to sleep and L'thor might have work at some point...probably needed his rest as well. "Mmm...but...I should probably be going now. You know...if I stay too long, I'd stay all night forgetting the time." He got up from his chair and gently pushed it back under the table, "Thank you for the lessons. I really appreciate it. I feel much better."

L'thor grinned and shook his head slightly. "Ah, if only they knew. They would be shocked, quite shocked." His enemies would be in any case; his close friends already knew all about his sentimental tendencies. How embarrassing for such a sharp wit as himself to have soft feelings! "She was cute too," he grinned, looking over at his sleeping dragon, "very cute and gangly and awkward. Didn't take her long to grow into grace though... I hope you get that chance too Veyes." He was lucky. He knew that of course, but one busy day rolled into another and he didn't think about it as often as perhaps he should. Later on, when she was awake again, he would make a huge fuss of Raith.
"Oh, yes, you're right." L'thor got to his feet and pushed his chair under the table too. "Well I shall see you soon then, I'll send River to find out when you have time for more extra lessons." He was glad the short demonstration had made Veyes feel better; he didn't deserve what was happening to him.
