Thakorise struggled with his hand that had found its way around her waist. She scowled as she tried to pry it from her but found it was no use. She was much too weak. Oh great, she thought to herself, talk about needing a... her thoughts trailed off when a brown haired man came over to where they were. Need help, she mused to herself, what does it look like.
"Don't you see me an' the lady got business boy," the cur drawled.
"It seems that this excuse for a man has a problem keeping his greasy hands off me. Could you kindly ask him to? It seems he doesn't respect the feminine gender enough to do as I ask."
"Be quiet woman. Why don't you run off and find some other chick ta help boy. I got dis one 'ere."
"Why don't you run off and find a man to do?"
Thakorise asked the rude man in an all too serious voice.
As always, her words betrayed her situation. She was desperately telling herself to calm down on the inside but her hand was moving away from her purse.

Liam let out a small barely audible sigh as he sat in the passenger side of the dark blue sedan parked by a convenient store. The car belonged to his new partner who had been assigned to him. His name was Robert ... Robert ... something or other. Liam didn't really care all that much about the last name, he was more concerned with the fact that this partner had lasted for a little over a month. A feat he had not seen done in a while now, he was hoping this newly promoted young cop would last. Although Liam preffered to work alone, he only had to worry about his own a**.
When Rob returned to the car he apologized for taking so long. Liam merely waved the apology away, it didn't matter to him, he hadn't heard anything on the radio. Starting the car his new partner pulled on to the road and started to drive around the route that Liam had shown the young detective numerous times before.
Like those other previous times Rob had tried to stroke up conversation, trying to find out about Liam. He could see that Rob admired him, alot of cops do, after all he was only 29, a sergeant, highly decorated, been an anoyance to numerous crime boss's ... the list goes on.
Liam would answer the questions, or at least a couple of them. Usually something would come up on the radio and they would be off to arrest some bad guys. With Liam's bad luck with assignments or anything that comes up on the radio, its usually something violent and only he can do. Right now he just wanted to go home and sleep, maybe smoke a little.
But the radio buzzed ... cursing inwardly he listened and looked over at Rob who wore an intense look on his face. Another violent crime going on, more people are going to be dead by the end of the night. He didn't have to say anything to Rob, they were the closest to the crime and so they drive off towards it while Liam put the small red siren on the roof.

Carlos looked down at the man with a look of seriousness. "Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave this place." Noticing the red sirens reflected on the walls and windows of the buildings and shops across the street. Perfect, he thought holding back a smile. He gestures towards the rest of the patrons in the restaurant, "You're disturbing our other guests. Please oblige to this demand before the cops have to get involved. And don't worry about your check," he added, "it's on me." He gave the man another stern look then gestured outside as the sirens kept going on. Perfect timing.

Thakorise glared at the man as he inturn glared at the guy that came over. As the sirens were heard, she felt his hand tighten around her. She tensed for a moment until she felt his grip relax and he pushed her away and into the glass. She gasped as she hit the glass and the wall beneathbut was happy he had let her go. He cursed under his breath as he looked around before walking out.
Thakorise leaned up off the wall once he had gone and straightened herself out as she looked up at the man that had just help.
"Thanks stranger," she said in a cool voice that betrayed how shook she was feeling. She offered him her hand. "The names' Thakorise and I believe i'm in your debt."

Carlos took her hand gave a light kiss upon it, "Carlos," he answered. Keeping the managerial role in mind he added, "No miss. No debt. Merely keeping the happiness of my customers. I wouldn't want to lose a customer due to a drunk jerk such as that man." He looked up to see the man leave then returned his gaze to her, "At least he knew he was wrong. Had I did nothing I would have lost a lovely one such as yourself plus any friends you may tell later." Releasing her hand he noticed her unfinished meal, "Please enjoy your meal and if you need anything at all I'll be seated at that table," he pointed at the table he was sitting at, "surveying my restaurant. No other manager takes such care with his place I'll assure you that." He smiled as he walked back to his table, cup of water waiting for him as he sat. He looked back at her booth before taking a drink from his cup. Whoo, glad I pulled that off well, he thought with a smile as he 'surveyed' the restaurant.

She smiled once he took her hand. She found herself mistrusting him and took in every detail. Before he walked away, she called quietly to him. "Well dressed manager. You look too good to own this dump." She then looked out the window and sighed to herself. She shouldn't have said that after he had helped her out. She found that she was too grown in the law, she noticed things and observed way too much. With that and the engagement, she was well under the iron in stress.
The engagement, she thought quietly. She looked on her finger to see the sparkling ring. She had completely forgotten about it. The diamond enclosed by saphires and emeralds, gave off lovely shimmers under light. She removed the ring from her finger and slipped it in her purse. She did not want it but feared loosing it or surely, she would have thrown it away.

Recalling her words as he continued to play manager he kept thinking, She's not too sure about that. I can still pull this off. Just don't muck up. After finishing his glass he stood up and started to walk towards the back where the manager's office was. It was down a small hallway out of sight from the main dining area. If he was lucky he could get away without her remebering his face. He walked down the small hallway, one side manager's office, the other an emergency exit. With a place too cheap to have alarms he opened the door and went out into the alley. Taking in a deep breath of chilling air he walked out of the alley and back on the streets. He looked around the corner and through the window at the young lady he had just helped, She doesn't know, he repeated to himself as he started walking the other direction. He got about ten steps before he stalled. Damnit, he thought, No. That's stupid, I shouldn't go back. She's too high class for me anyway. He walked up against the wall of the shop next to the restaurant, leaned against it, and waited. What am I waiting for.

She saw him get up and walk out. She did not know why she was doubting him, or if it mattered, but when he dissapeared in the back, she reluctantly believed he was telling the truth. Thakorise found herself ashamed until she saw him out the window. She smiled to herself and grabbed her purse. She walked out quietly and looked down the street. She was surprised as she did not see him walking down it. When she was fully out on the sidewalk, she noticed him leaning up against a wall.
Thakorise walked over to him and smiled. She wasn't sure what she was doing out there, but she found herself out there anyway.
"So...I didn't quite well catch your name. If I did...I missed it."

Damnit, Carlos thought as he was now approached. Slightly losing his balance he quickly corrected himself and thought quickly. Many thoughts crossed his mind as he finally stammered, "Carlos miss." Does she know? he thought to himself, Of course she does, she's standing right in front of me. Have to keep playing. Searching his pockets for a pretend cigarette he looks at her, "I see you've caught me at my vulnerable time. Slight smoking problem you see," he gave a guilty smile. Carlos didn't smoke but he had to keep the act up.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 24, 2005 9:28 pm

"Ah," she said, "a smoking problem. Well, I see. I'm sure you don't want to be bothered then." She looked at him with cunning eyes as she flicked strands of blonde hair over her shoulders. She smiled and turned her back. "Nice to meet you Carlos. I won't bother you. I'll just leave you to you smoking." She took a few steps before turning her head back to look at him. "If that's what you say you're doing." She felt crushed, though she couldn't figure why. Smoking...he came out for a drag and she came out like a fool. She shook her head and sighed before she stopped and looked about. Where am I going now? she thought to herself, So wrapped up and don't even know where the hell you're going.

Not sure what to do now he thought of many scenarios and many outcomes. No cigarette to smoke, he thought, No would give me away for sure. Slightly aggrivated now he shouted out toward the woman, "Wait. I mean since you're out here...I was wondering if..." What am I wondering, he thought, She's probably got some high fancy rich husband or boyfriend "What I'm trying to say is, that..." he sighed and continued, "I could tell them I'm leaving and we could...well since you've already eaten, would you mind a walk or something." Gosh, you're an idiot, he thought to himself, A walk you retarded man. "Umm, Thakorise right?" he recalled her name, at least he had a good memory. "Or at least walk you home," he said with a small smile.

"Still claiming to be a manager I see." She giggled and turned fully to him. She had been thinking of where to go but had been shaken from her thoughts. She smiled and shook her head. Blonde strands moved about mussing it, but she did not mind. "Even cheap places have pictures you know. I noticed it...before. The picture of the manager. Trust me...you don't want to look like that. He puts the word rotund to shame."
She wasn't trying to embarass him, but she did want to know why he had lied. She was a slueth at heart with the personality of an adventurer. When she wanted to know something, she found it out. "Well...I don't live on this side of town and I am truly lost. I mean...well..I have a clue as to where I am but...for sure...its not a very good one. Care to help me find a cab to the other side of the city? I've noticed that I stopped seeing them quite a way from here. Why I kept on walking...I don't know. Anyway...babbling here. Sorry. You know what...i'm going to shut up right now." You idiot, she scolded herself, that mouth of yours just blows you out the water everytime.

Carlos gave a big sigh, Great figured out by little miss smarty pants, he thought to himself. "I do apologize miss for the act. But a man such as that wouldn't listen to a mere customer. More authority was needed and I didn't want to seem forward." He thought of her question, then asked puzzled, "The other side of the city? You mean Burns Avenue and such? What's a young lady from there doing in this shithole?" He couldn't quite understand it, "They stopped the cab services around here a couple years back," he started to answer her question, "Noone around here ever has money for them and noone wants to come around these parts. At least noone who isn't protected by some high gang lord and finds themselves immuned to paying." He gave a small laugh, "This place really isn't the spot for someone as high as yourself. I can help you out but I do warn you walking around here like that," he gestured towards her miniskirt, "may bring some unwanted company such as the one earlier."

He finally said, "Here follow me. I don't expect you to trust me yet, especially with the ploy I tried to pull, so staying at my place until I can find you transportation is out of the question," he said more of showing her options of his choice than rather stating the obvious. "I guess we'll just have to walk. It'll be about seven or eight blocks before we'll see any cabs though." He picked up a small lead pipe he found near the corner of an alley. Hitting it against his hand a couple times he hid it in his sleeve, looking back at the girl he says, "Protection. Like I said this place ain't too safe."

"Figures i'd be a problem," she mused. She shrugged her shoulders and sighed. "I live close to Lenox Avenue. I thought to get away...you know. Being sheltered and all just got me a little crazy and I had to get away from the shimmering lakes, fake people and purified air." She grinned and looked down at the miniskirt. "Yeah, should have left this in the closet but I didn't plan to get this far. I look out of place in all this."

She waited for him to lead her to whichever way they were going. She had accepted his explanation for the lie but she found something unnerving. "You're a very good actor." She winced the moment the words left her mouth so she added quickly, "its none of my business. I'm sorry. You help me and i'm here just chewing your head off. One more thing, i'm not just some high town brat. I might be lost but i'm perfectly safe...to some degree...does that make sense? You're making me babble again...I mean...ignore that." Her face flushed red and she turned away. Oh great.

Carlos smiled at the compliment, he wasn't sure whether to tell her his real job or play on something higher. He decided to avoid that for now. "Aah," he says, "the big fake smiles and stupid lies. Must be unnerving," he said with slight mockery in his voice. With all that money I'd take a couple fake people around, he thought to himself. "Trust me miss, around here you can't be safe," he then stopped and looked at her. "Are you dealing with gang lords?" he questioned, Makes sense, the only way she'd survive at all down here. Under their protection. "Only way I can see you being safe here." He noticed her look away with slightly rosy cheeks. Carlos was shocked for a second, he never realized his impact on this woman. He tried to ease up some, "Eh, doesn't matter. We just got to get you out of this place before someone decides to 'take' you off my hands."
